May 23, 2025: Reader Tips

Tonight, we begin a 5-part series related to the famous American Mother Road aka Route 66. But only this first one is actually directly related to Route 66 itself. Here is Nat King Cole singing Get Your Kicks on Route 66 (link fixed).

If you’ve got some personal stories about driving on Route 66 or other long distance road trips, we’d love to hear them! Current news tips are also welcome.

  1. my best long road trip was driving my Trump triumph Tour a few days after the 2016 election , the whole lower 48 in two weeks talking to Joe average American as i was assured by the MSM talking heads that Trump couldnt win . What I saw in the USA were Trump signs and Bernie signs , really no Hillary signs. An MSM lie for months

  2. I lived right off IL-53 – part of US-66 between Chicago and Joliet. Other than the historic marker signs, you’d never know.

There was a gravel quarry, a 300 ft high landfill, and a sewage treatment plant nearby. So I mostly remember the trucks and the dust and the smell.

There was one good truck stop diner until I-355 opened and stole its traffic. It turned into an ecstasy fueled dance club in the 90s and is now a nursing home.
The road itself is a traffic nightmare. 45 minutes to go three miles during rush hour.

    1. Did you even read the second article? It explains in detail that sanctions were not the problem :
“this explanation [sanctions] warrants skepticism.” Why do you clutter up Kate’s nice blog with your wishful thinking?

      1. Like I said copium.
But feel free to believe that AEW is not the force multiplier. Meanwhile Meteor armed Rafales went in blind and got shot down because Pakis had AEW.

      2. “The A-100, with the new AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) radar, can track 300 targets at a distance of 643 km.”
        https://theaviationist.com/2024/06/13/russia-new-a-100/
Less than a year ago it was supposed to be so amazing but now it is no longer necessary, suuuure. Because of Patriot with max range of 160 km or antique S-200 refurbished by Poland that have marginal mobility are a threat to it. The pretzel logic from russian channels is amusing.
All those buying E-7 Wedgetail must be wrong too.

      3. Surely having an airborne radar capable of tracking the entire swarm from 600+km away would not be useful here, because you know, a Patriot battery could quietly travel few hundreds km behind enemy lines and shoot it down or something. Surely existing assets can happily fill the gap, oops they can’t.

Only a coping idiot questions the need for AEW.

        1. Yes, yes, Jessica.
Russia is doing so poorly that they don’t occupy a large portion of the Ukraine, and Zels troops now in fact occupy large swaths of Russian territory. If a ceasefire happened now, Zel would be the winner!
You sure like to fantasize in public, whether its about ethnically cleansing Russians or watching India get nuked.
          You are one sick freak.

          1. Of course it is Friday so time for a drunken off topic rant about your betters.
BTW, why do you like India so much? Is it their lack of personal hygiene that makes you think you’re of them?

          1. Clearly people who respond care, although calling these three “people” is an undue complement. If you’re not interested then f@#$ off to a topic that interests you or to your safe space. Either one is fine.

      4. DCH
More of jessica’s lefty shitthole news out lets, just isn’t redit and video games this time. I read one article and some comments, and all lefty schitt, The gay COLON never learns.

    1. I’m not one to support sharia, and I would never tell a woman what to wear in public, but OTOH, really… some of these women absolutely feel the need to “show off”, and I have to question where that attitude may be coming from… (one of the deadly sins, maybe), and yes, these girls may insist on having the right to wear what they want (and they do indeed have that right), but * I * insist on having the right to discern if that woman’s attire is appropriate to wear in public.

A little modesty wouldn’t hurt, you know, but hey, you go, girl!

      1. How they dress is up to them.
Whether they put themselves in vulnerable circumstances while dressing like that is up to them too.

        Neither matters.

The issue is simple: mooselimbs harass civilized with immunity and demand civilized observe mooselimb 7th century cultural standards. There is no coexisting with this other than dhimmitude. A civilized country has zero tolerance for savages who are daring to threat the civilized in any way.

        1. Jessica
Lets forgit that years ago kristian wimin were shamed if they entered a church without having their heads covered. kristians mooselimb and joos are one and the same in many aspects.
Butt you and the pounders keep living in yer ignorance, which is on display on a daily basis in here.

          1. Atheists hold the record for mass murder.
That being said, comparing the Christians and Jews of centuries ago to the Moslems of today is just another aspect of your “honesty” I suspect.

      2. Yes, exposing an ankle will cause almost every man reduced to thinking of raoe. The burkha requirement is sort of an admission that Islamic men are a bare ankle or cheek away from rape.

        1. True that. And it seems to be getting worse over the last few decades. Pretty soon they will require goats to wear burkas too.

  3. Thanks Robert, that is truly educational.

    California; now under no management.

  4. Expert fact-checks Peter Zeihan on China’s impending collapse.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XupM5_zHDbM

Answer: Zeihan overstates his case substantially and China is not collapsing any time soon. Interestingly the video suggests Zeihan is after “clicks” for his you-tube channel. I think he is being paid directly to talk down China. Much like the channel China Observer which only shows negative conflict in China on a daily basis.

    1. I’m not surprised. Butts and Carney have a history.

Carney is a lot like Trump in that he doesn’t understand the workings of government. The ‘insiders’, the guys that know how the sausage is made are sitting back waiting to see what moves he makes before they play their hand.

The rumours are already flying that Carney runs meetings that start on time, the agenda is strictly adhered too and you better be prepared if your called upon to speak. This is completely unlike the previous administration where accountability was unheard of.

I guess we’ll see how this all plays out. The Ottawa mandarin is not used to treatment anywhere close to what is now taking place. There’ll be a lot of hurt feelings…

      1. Whoops this post should follow my Route 66 one below.

I almost forgot to mention that Julie London was nurse ‘Dixie’ in the tv show Emergency.

  5. Blacklock’s Reporter stated this past Tuesday that one Brian O’Neil has been appointed, a few months ago, to chairman of the board of directors at the Business Development Bank of Canada:
    https://www.blacklocks.ca/no-comment-on-party-donor/

    This guy:
    https://www.bdc.ca/en/about/corporate-governance/board-of-directors/brian-o-neil

He has donated, since 2008, almost $38,000 to the Liberal Party of Canada, Liberal candidates or various Liberal riding associations. Of that the good board of directors head has donated nearly $15,000 to Chrystia Freeland’s riding association or her leadership campaign run. He was also Freeland’s financial officer in one of her local MP election runs (which one escapes me at the moment). Chrystia of course was a cabinet minister when Cabinet voted an order-in-council approving O’Neil ‘s promotion from board member to chairmannof the board at the BDBC.

If anyone wants a copy of the spreadsheet calculating the above Liberal donation figures, he or she can request a copy at murrelldavid4@gmail.com .

  7. July 1962 leave Elmhurst for road trip to Los Angeles and San Francisco. Taking Route 66 from its beginning (or end if traveling from LA to Chi) Ogden Ave southwest thru IL, MO, KS, OK, TX, NM, AZ to CA. Seven of us in a 1962 cream yellow Buick Invicta. I remember all the motels with teepee rooms – a kid’s idea of a perfect place to spend every night on the road. A great trip, happy memories. You miss all the fun of Americana on super highways.

  8. I’ve lived in Flagstaff on Rt. 66 for almost 50 years. There is still a lot of it left in Arizona. European bikers love coming over and driving it. Companies take one bunch from Chicago to Santa Monica and then another bunch back to Chicago. I used to run into them in Gallup, NM where they stayed at the old El Rancho hotel. We stayed there coming home from road racing bikes in Albuquerque. There is a Rt. 40 in Argentina that SA bikers call it their Rt. 66. It’s a sumbitch.

    1. When I was in Sedona last month, I visited Williams and Flagstaff and Winslow. Great examples of Route 66 in each!

    2. I have many fond memories ridin’ Route 66. Hair flyin’ no helmet crusin’ Andy Devine Ave (remember him?) pipes barkin’ on the FLH. America baby! What’s not to like.

Bobby Troup a former Marine, jazz piano player and bit actor wrote Route 66 back in the 40’s. He also wrote the jazz standard ‘Daddy’ for you jazz buffs. Nat Cole had a hit with the tune as did Nelson Riddle who did a great version as a an instrumental (It signs off with a boss guitar lick).

Bobby Troup married the babelicious Julie London. Imo she was about the sexiest lounge singer ever. Had the dangerous curves of a mountain pass and a set of pipes that would melt a glacier. Ay carumba!

  9. Note the 4 bullet testimony including info on two shots fired at JFK from the front. Interesting read with short video clips.

According to Douglas P. Horne, Frm. Assassinations Record Review, President Kennedy sustained multiple bullet wounds, with photographic evidence to support this claim—evidence that was deliberately concealed and withheld from the official record.
“8 different sets of photographs are not in the official collection today, and never have been.”

  11. The NEW YORK TIMES examines the anger of Canada’s West –
“If there was a referendum on it, I would not hesitate to say separation,” Alberta resident Bob Gablehaus told the Times. “I don’t like the way the liberals treat Western Canada. I think it’s unfair.”
Most Canadians understand why. A whopping 55 percent of all Canadians say they understand why Albertans want to secede, according to a Leger survey reported on by The Canadian Press.
“My view is that if Alberta succeeds in succession that you would witness an unprecedented net migration to the province. Many would want to escape Liberal authoritarian rule & the high tax regime !!”
