Elbows Up! Oh, wait….
Canada’s labour market showed strain from the U.S. trade war in April, with the unemployment rate rising unexpectedly to 6.9 per cent as manufacturing jobs declined, according to Statistics Canada data released on Friday. Overall employment was essentially flat, with 7,400 net jobs added for the month — a number held in positive territory due to temporary hiring for the federal election.

A bunch of one day government jobs propped up the Labour market. Christ! Call an election every week then we’ll be rolling!
Thank God we have Carnage Carney to get even with Trump and make him and the US respect our protectionism.
We are screwed but all this jurisdictional jargon about Alberta separation is the biggest joke of all.
They are not going to be told what to do and who to pay by those frozen Eastern bastards.
The people of that province will decide their fate, within Canada or not, and will no longer be ruled by statists.
I can already tell you what’s going to happen. There is no specific margin documented to define a departure of any of the Provinces. Never establish laws based on the “honor system.” Does is require a simple majority? Does it require a 2/3rds majority? Does it require some other arbitrary majority?
That leaves the process open to interpretation…which means interpretation by your Liberal government. Alberta, of course, will have their own interpretation of how the law reads. Which is all a long way of saying any Provincial departure will be on an adversarial basis and decided by courts owned by the Liberal govt. Simply put, your House of Commons would determine this: “a clear expression of a will by a clear majority”
Clear majority: That’s a malleable term…purposefully so. Throw “clear expression of” in there and we’re talking about opinions. And, we all know what the opinion will be of those set to feel detrimental consequences of Alberta’s departure.
Don’t be overly surprised when they set a threshold well beyond reasonable…say like 85% of residents of Alberta must agree. I tend to think the law was purposely written that way to negate any chance of it being applicable.
If over 50% vote to leave, the Province should take unilateral action. Like the US v Canada, the US holds the cards. Alberta is a massive contributor to the RoC, so they hold the cards. What will the Librano’s do? Send the non existant military?
They will seize the bank accounts – prepare accordingly.
50% plus 1 to separate.
If Canada stalls or tries to stop it, then ask a friendly US President to send the Army and Marines to defend us from Canada.
We’re not going to be doing that. What is the benefit for us?
Jane has the right of it. Both sides are badly misreading Trump. Trump’s 51st state rhetoric is a troll job, he isn’t serious. It’s just a way of making it clear how little he respects Canada.
The only way any part of Canada ever becomes part of the US is after a decade of punishing economic isolation bankrupts Canada, regions near the border go begging to Washington cap in hand, and the Canadian federal government is so enervated the worst it can do is issue a strongly worded letter.
And this assumes the CCP just does nothing to retain control of their client state.
I can’t help noticing the irony of the Law outlining the process is called “The Clarity Law”. It’s written to be deliberately obtuse and provides the exact opposite of what the title says. Now, where have I seen a government deliberately mislabel a Bill so as to give the perception of the opposite? Oh, right. “Inflation Reduction Act.”
I read the Clarity Law. By failing to list a specific majority percentage they guarantee the involvement of the government and Courts in defining that figure and assure that it will not be a process defined by currently listed obligations. Those get concocted during the process. You can bank on the % not being less than 2/3 or rounded off 67%. That’s to say nothing of the other obligations your government would attach, such as a long period of time for which Alberta would be obligated to continue funding the Canadian Federal Govt. Simply put, they hold all the cards, and have not yet created the rules, hoops, and obstacles that would block any such efforts.
The “clear majority” will be defined as 1 vote more than whatever the sovereign movement gets in their referendum, immediately after the house declares the question unclear.
“with the unemployment rate rising unexpectedly to 6.9 per cent as manufacturing jobs declined”
If only 6.9%. Statistics Canada reports Toronto’s unemployment rate as 9.6%.

Must be apples and oranges or something else since the table you linked to has the lowest regional rate at 7.1%, average likely about 8%.
Why do you think Mark Carnage moved his company to the US?
Where do they manufacture bicycles?

When Carney said our relationship with USA is over then went to usa to confront Trump instead did nothing, Trump just laid it to Carney then told the reporters that a surprise was coming up a day later only to find out that Trump made deals with UK. Carney and crew left with absolutely nothing but a slap on their faces.
Report indicates that Canada lost 31,000 manufacturing jobs. 33,000 of those were lost in Ontario.
Doug Ford has his ‘strong mandate’ to negotiate with Trump. What a bunch of BS.
Ouch! 31,000 taxpayers just became 31,000 tax money receivers.
Fire up the printing presses.
The peasants that live in this place don’t care, they will starve to prove their loyalty to Millionaire Marx Carney, after all, they elected him to bow and grovel before Trump. Everything is fine.
Seriously, it might bother those specific workers, but other people don’t care.
Carney thinks he’s clever. Stymie resource development by creating Marine National Parks. There’s no point in producing anything if you can’t move it.
First, create Marine National Parks. Then, send in the Marines!
Does anyone believe StatsCan’s estimate of unemployment?
If you do know anyone who does I’ve got a nice tower in Paris to sell…
That Carney wasn’t even thinking of hockey when he said “Elbow’s up!”, he was trying to terrorize Calgarians traumatized by the flood. Mean bastard.
