2. Until they start reporting on whatever medications these ‘mental illness’ perpetrators are consuming, I won’t accept ‘mental illness’ as a reason. From allegedly his writings, he seemed pretty cognizant and coherent.

So he’s going to be charged with 2nd degree murder for the 11 people he killed, and will be out in less than a decade after being found “not criminally responsible on account of mental disorder” and “cured” by the same people that “cured” the bus cannibal(6 years) and the stolen snow plow cop killer (6 years).

   Allan Schoenborn (aka Ken John Johnson) took longer but he’s been released now.

   None of these people, or the others who are found NCR, should ever be released.

      Fine. How about also N A O. “not allowed out” ever, or at least until they prove that they are stable WITHOUT drugs. After all, we don’t force feed drugs, depending entirely on self-compliance.

5. Funny how the police are speaking so openly regarding the man’s mental health issues, and are using his name before trial.
   In Sask, the r,cee,m,pea don’t even announce deaths till 2-3 days after in some cases. Won’t provide a name till the trial starts, in most cases. Use “privacy” as an excuse to keep the citizens in the dark.
   The police, speaking so openly of his mental health, would that grant the accused driver to sue for breech of privacy?

10. Unfortunately, I have up-close and personal experience with mental health. One of my own sons was a mental patient. It was horrible. When he went from a straight-A student in 8th grade to an unhinged college freshman threatening suicide and matricide … it was as shocking and sudden as learning your beautiful child was dying of cancer.

    We had to call the police and ‘5150’ him (a danger to himself and others) on numerous occasions such as when he went walking to BART in the rain at 6:30am to meet with Jessica Alba who was going to pay him $1M for the song he wrote for her. Or the time he put a brick through our French doors because we kicked him out of the house. Why did we kick him out of the house? Because the County Social Workers told us he had to be indigent and homeless before he could get any services such as Social Security SDI or County mental health therapy.

    But we persisted. We had him hospitalized … multiple times. It was horrible. We had him see a fantastic psychologist who DID prescribe Lithium and Abilify along with some other drugs she tried. We worked with the Doctor to carefully adjust his medication so that he could function and not be over-medicated. The DRUGS WORKED!! They, essentially ‘fixed’ the chemical imbalance and successfully treated his illness. I repeat – his illness. He was ill. Just as anyone who is diabetic or has any other chronic health problem.

    But he was an adult. With all the personal autonomy our society affords adults. He was utterly dependent upon us until he took his last breath, extinguished by his own hand. But we couldn’t MAKE him take his drugs. We couldn’t FIX his problem. It was ongoing. His last most lucid state of being was when he was incarcerated in a TX prison for multiple shoplifting episodes and mental breaks (they don’t mess in Texas). Why was he there? Too long a story.

    But the prison got his medical records and MADE him TAKE HIS MEDICATIONS! He came out of a short stay in jail a completely changed person … we had our sweet, loving, son back for the first time in years. He found a job … and immediately became “employee of the month”. I know, it sounds silly and trivial … but that silly little thing was so thoroughly symbolic of what proper medication did for my son. But … he stopped taking his medications, and smoked dope and God knows what else and his mental health came unwound again. Until he took his own life.

    We desperately need a complete overhaul of our medical and social systems. We can scan, and reconstruct knees with artificial joints and do all manner of medical miracles … but we’re FAILING our mental patients. No, I don’t want my son locked up in a TX jail. But he needed constant supervision to keep taking his lifesaving medication. We have time-released insulin and other medications. We have birth control embedded under the skin. We desperately need the same thing for psychotropic medications.

    I don’t believe my son was ever capable of mass murder … he was a sweet kid at heart … but who knows? He was Bi-Polar with schizophrenia. He heard voices. Who knows what those voices would have told him to do. But medication FIXED him. Completely. In his case … he just needed constant monitoring and maintenance. We tried, but we failed. To our eternal misery. We literally had to choose our own lives and peace of mind after 17 years of ultimately failed management. From age 18 to 35 … we tried.

    Do some other “overmedication” of psychotropic drugs have the opposite effect and turn people suicidal if not homicidal? Could be. But that was definitely not the case for my son. His medication cured his medical problem as surely as beta blockers ‘cure’ high blood pressure. We need to interdict and manage mental patients as completely and thoroughly as we do every other chronic medical ailments.

       l got a niece became schizophrenic ages ago, l respectfully and discretely asked my sister how she was doing at one point when l went out west to visit. not a godam word.

11. Bottom line – as a serious country, we need to turf the Charter and make people take their medication in order to keep them and society safe. Pretty obvious what political party would make that happen – but “Trump, Trump, Trump”
