Mark Carney new Liberal leader and prime minister: cutting carbon tax, fighting Trump. He never mentioned pipelines, but Chretien did.
Mark Carney new Liberal leader and prime minister: cutting carbon tax, fighting Trump. He never mentioned pipelines, but Chretien did.
Mark Carney, a man without integrity, honesty, or morals. Exactly what Canada deserves. Go Canuckleheads!
its ‘Carnage’ not Carney
canadians gravitate to corruption
I think Marx Carney said he’ll eliminate the carbon tax on families of farmers, and small – medium businesses.
So, it remains.
That’s how it sounds to me, Marc. I’m just a pensioner so I guess I still have to pay.
You won’t have to pay it directly Dirtman, seems he’s going to impose it on the companies and wholesalers.
It will be hidden.
We’ll never see it.
But we’ll feel it
Yeah, canada blunders along.
Nothing will change other than it won’t be a separate line item on the invoice like it is now.
Marc – he said he was going to remove the visible carbon tax but hit the “major polluters”/ Which means it will still be there, just not visible, and he’s on record as saying it should be much higher so expect your daily costs to increase but you won’t even get the quarterly bribe cheque.
Sorry Francis, l should have scrolled a bit further.
So, a return to pre GST days of having a 9% GATT or manufacturer’s tax, before the Mulroney PC’s made it visible.
Well that’s either more, or less comforting.
Exactly!!!
“The Americans want our resources, our water, our land, our country. Think about it. If they succeeded, they would destroy our way of life.”
This is only obviously absurd if you don’t realize that “American” is code for “Jew.”
Mark, a member in good standing of the cult that claims the Argentinian ponce Jorge Bergoglio is God Incarnate, thinks, or wants you to think, that “the Jews” control Trump and want to use him to destroy “our” way of life.
They don’t, of course. It’s the Chinese communists who want to destroy western civilization and blot out the Name of the God of the Blue-eyed Devils, and Carney is a willing collaborator in their plot.
But Carney knows that Liberals win elections, especially in Quebec, by appealing to people who hate Jews more than they love their children, be they French-Canadian bumpkins or the Muslim scum of Montreal.
The way of life of the French Canadian chauvinists and their Muslim bedroom buddies is not my way of life, and if by rising up against Israel Mark Carney succeeds in destroying it forever, so much the better for all of us.
So let’s see how lucky Mark is really feeling, and if he really thinks he’ll be the one to finally teach the Jews manners.
So Brian … are you DEMANDING that your new replacement PM slap a 10% fossil fuel tax on top of Trump’s 10% tariff on Canadian oil? Because that’ll show that crazed Orange man!? That’ll show Canada’s crusade to keep the “planet from burning”!!
1. he’s not “my new replacement PM.” He’s not mine, never mine. But he will be the Canadian prime minister until such time as he is displaced by a general election. Don’t dare claim I am sort of Liberal puppet. I most certainly am not.
2. I wrote what he said, in an energy context. Give your head a shake.
I was also writing about energy … and trade. Forgive me, but my radar is always up for TDS. If you don’t believe you suffer from that … and you’re willing to even consider the logic of Trump imposing equitable tariffs … then I’ll put you into the TDS-adjacent category. Something short of full blown TDS.
Globalism has hollowed out the American middle class. Nobody but the elites can afford an automobile … let alone a home. Hell! I consider myself in the elite class … certainly upper middle class … but I can’t/wont afford a $110,000.00+ pickup truck! And making half of them in Mexico and Canada certainly hasn’t made automobiles affordable. Henry Ford created the assembly line so that he could produce automobiles faster and cheaper … hence expanding the marketplace into virtually EVERY socioeconomic class. Henry Ford … like nearly every other American industrialist BUILT America’s middle class.
However, 50 years of globalism has all but killed off our middle class … that huge part of our population in the center of the bell curve has been displaced by Chinese slave laborers, illegal immigrants, and cheap(er) workers in Mexico and Canada. Losing our middle class will destroy America. It’s already made it shamefully unsafe. It won’t be long that marauding gangs of unemployed/underemployed Americans attack the elite enclaves to TAKE what they can’t earn from honest labor.
Yeah, Trump is helping to correct that fatal error.
Funny, you don’t seem to recall what actually happened when the first free trade deal was brought in during the 1980s, and subsequently NAFTA and USMCA. Canada, not the US, was the high-wage jurisdiction that lost factories and jobs to the US. The number of auto assembly lines that shifted to right to work states in the south utterly gutted our auto industry, to the point where its is a mere shadow of its former self. Most Canadian manufacturing jobs went south, first to the US, then to Mexico. If anyone has been the victim, it’s been Canada. As for America losing jobs to Mexico and China, I agree with you. But you certainly haven’t lost them to Canada. We lost them to you, and Mexico.
And I wrote a column recently about that $110,000 truck.
As for Trump Derangement Syndrome – he’s said more than 20 times in the last three months he wants to take over Canada, and several times he’s said he’ll use economic force to do so. That’s not derangement, that’s facts. There are plenty of Canadians who absolutely do not want to be taken over – despite a few very vocal people you’ll find here.
Yeah… that free trade deal backed by Muldoon rubbed me the wrong way at first, but I grew to accept it as the reality. Little did I know how right I was at the time…
But Brian. You can’t be so naive as to believe that Carbon Tax Carney is going to eliminate the carbon tax, because he wants to eliminate at at the consumer level.
You have to know that he plans to hide the carbon tax (at the producer level), so that consumers will still be paying for it, but won’t know how much they’re paying for it.
Carney and Trudeau both have the same policies. It’s just that Carney may be a little smarter as to how to implement those policies.
FC, I don’t have to believe him. As a journalist, I accurately report what he says. That’s it. That’s what journalism is. I’m a news site, not a strictly opinion site.
And I agree he will likely hide it. As I pointed out in the story, he’s been a strong advocate of a carbon tax. That’s why I pointed it out.
(on Mark Carney)
“FC, I don’t have to believe him. As a journalist, I accurately report what he says. That’s it. That’s what journalism is. I’m a news site, not a strictly opinion site.”
And yet you DO have to believe Donald Trump when he says that he wants to “take over Canada”? Why the double-standard?
You can see why Kenji and others here (including me) assume that you have a bad case of TDS, right?
Fred, Trump has said many, many times he wants to take over Canada. Reporting that is being accurate.
And yes, I do believe Trump when he says that.
Will Carney shut down the carbon tax? I expect he will. I also expect he will hide it under the rug by imposing it on the energy sector. He, too, has made similar references. So believe him when he said it.
@Brian. I am relieved at your reply to me and then to Fred. It’s just that after reading your article, I felt that you were reporting it in the context that it was actual fact, not just something Carnage had said. Needless to say, it was an eye-opener. I am glad you took the time to set the record straight.
This is why I feel that I have to remind everyone to please keep their posts civil, because many times the written word doesn’t convey the true intention of what the author is really saying, so to those of us (and I am including myself) who choose to respond negatively, know that you may be overreacting, which is why I try to temper my comments (with one obviously notable exception, of course).
Okay, Canadian unions originally opposed the FTA claiming Americans were paid less. So both can’t be right.
Brian, allow me to clarify my comment about Canadians working cheaper than Americans. What I meant to say is that it costs LESS for auto manufacturers to build products in Canada … because your dollar is so devalued compared to ours … and you don’t have a fearsome UNION like the UAW.
Need I remind you that Obama’s Federal Govt.. bailout/buyout of General Motors “Too Big to Fail” was really a means to fund the gold-plated UAW pensions and wages. Yeah, you can BET on the fact that the major (remaining) Auto manufacturers know EXACTLY why they build products in Mexico and Canada … because it’s CHEAPER! They aren’t fools. It’s not because Canadians are really swell people (which many of you are).
The Canadian Auto Workers, now known as Unifor, is one of the most powerful unions in this country. It is the most powerful, by far. It is just as fearsome, if not moreso, because it extends well beyond the autoworkers. And it’s one of the most militant.
The reason in your context Canadian autoworkers cost less is because companies in Canada aren’t expected to pay for the health care of their workers. Our socialized medicare takes care of most of the expense for all Canadians, including auto workers. Sure, they have health benefits like dental, ambulance, better room in the hospital sort of thing. But that’s a small thing compared to the health premiums paid by US companies, not just in auto, but everything. Yes, we pay much higher taxes as a result. But that’s what’s really going on. If they US adopted universal medicare, all your taxes go up, but your companies have that burden removed from them.
Brian, Carney said he would eliminate the “consumer” carbon tax, he did not say there would be zero other forms of carbon tax. Fix your headline.
I will bet you dollars to donuts there still will be a carbon tax at the producer level, as mentioned earlier, like the old FST.
Kate, get rid of this LIEberal apologist Zinchuk.
This is a Conservative minded blog, not a place for LIEberal fart catchers writing their pro-Goobalist agenda!
FFS!
You have no idea what reality is, do you? Did you ever notice I occasionally post this at the end of stories:
Pipeline Online provides the in-depth coverage on energy issues in this province that no other media comes close to. It does NOT receive federal journalism subsidies, and it will NOT allow the federal government to limit its freedom of speech, as it is now moving to regulate podcasts. With recent action from Facebook to block news links, it’s important to follow Pipeline Online in other manners. The easiest is to check each morning at PipelineOnline.ca, with the top story posted at 7 a.m. Monday to Friday, and additional coverage throughout the day and weekend. But you can also follow on LinkedIn and Twitter. You can follow editor Brian Zinchuk online at LinkedIn as well (you’ll see more stories that way). You can subscribe to a weekly newsletter.
If you only knew the people who call me and ask for policy advice, you’d maybe stop being such a jerk. So F you and the horse you rode in on.
I know what reality is. It’s that sparkly bubble around me filled with unicorns! You people out there have no idea…
I have no doubt a ton of cuckservatives and liberals call you for policy advice, because there is no such thing as a legitimate conservative in elected office in this country.
This one article may be unbiased, and maybe you legitimately think you are unbiased all the the time, but you constantly come off as a leftist partisan whether you like it or not.
DanBC, you are barking up the wrong tree. Brian Zinchuk is a journalist who reports facts not opinions (usually, you can tell his thoughts by the subject selection). If you want opinions go to the opinion pages. Meantime I read Brian, go hmmm and armed with the facts make up my own mind.
Thank You Brian.
Thank you sir.
And Zinchuk starts the pathetic lickspittle’s genuflecting immediately.
You mean Zinchuk reported a timely news story in a timely manner.
I’m certain that’s how you see yourself, lickspittle.
You do journalism very well. Keep on keepin’ on! And that is from a crusty 82 year old life long conservative.
Thank you kindly
“Timely” but inaccurate, Carney only said he will eliminate a consumer carbon tax.
Parsing a politician’s words matter.
Surely lickspittles only genuflect if you’re spitting on the floor? I think Blinky is a bit of a jackass, but then, so are many of my friends, and I indulge in jackassery myself from time to time, so I try not to obsess over it. When he can be bothered to pull his head out of his ass, he does valuable work for which we should be grateful. Which is frankly more than I’ve been doing lately.
Also, somebody really needs to write a children’s book with a character named Blinky Lickspittle. It’s just too good a name to waste.
I believe he stated this about a month ago, and suggested programs in place of a carbon tax. As I recall he wanted to provide “incentives” for people to use ecologically favorable appliances, EV’s, and other things.
IOW, we’ll get rid of the “in your face” carbon tax, and use government money from your other taxes to pay for subsidies. Less messy if you don’t understand how it works. Essentially, that means one of two paths.
1. We will take those federal funds out of other programs and reduce the amount of money appropriated to such (Psssst, governments NEVER do this)
2. We will increase the taxes you pay at present to accommodate these new incentives. (governments ALWAYS do this)
Exactly. It’ll be sleight of hand, showing you money in one hand while the other hand picks your pocket.
We shall see if Canada is dumb enough to fall for the con. If you made me bet.. Well. Canada has gotten pretty darn stupid over the past decade…
That’s what the current Carbon Tax is, er I mean Carbon Rebate.
The claim that they rebate more than they take is pure Liberal bullshit.
The “where’s muh check” voters lap it up.
Goes to show how effective the “Axe The Tax” slogan really is.
Next up will be “Don’t Hide It Axe it”
Carney’s going to hit so called big polluters with a carbon tax; the fossil fuel industry, steel plants, cement plants, etc. But don’t worry (Sarc), he’ll carve out an exception for Quebec cement plants.
As for the carbon tax, remember the Liberals saying “there were no plans to raise the carbon tax above $50/tonne”? It may disappear, only to be replaced by a carbon levy.
Anyone who says CO2 is a pollutant had damn well better stop exhaling.
Man it must just eat you small town sociopaths alive that Carney is going to win the election hands down
Yeah but we take comfort in knowing all the city dwelling morons will be eating each other when the SHTF.
Are you dismantling your Rainbow Socks shrine, or does the Carney shrine go in a new room?
Part of me may actually want the liberals to win the next election. It may light a fire under Alberta’s butt to actually do something about the current abusive relationship between Alberta and Canada, and actually do something about it… like maybe opt for independence to end this relationship with the rest of the country…
…but only a SMALL part!
Believe me, if I were dictator, the U.S. would have annexed Alberta decades ago. Valuable resources + fewer leftists.
And you probably though Kamala was going to win in a landslide too.
If you think back on your life, have you ever been right about anything?
LMFAO
Carnage has no charisma, unlike early the Sock Boi.
First debate he will crumble…he can’t even properly pander to his Liberal base because he can’t speak French.
What makes you think there will be a real debate? It isn’t in the playbook we have seen in the recent past.
They are still the Liberal Party and the more exposure this elitist moron gets, the more he will sink.
His ESG group is under investigation is the US and Banks are leaving it in droves.
He never finished his term at the Bank of Canada. Why?
He never finished his term at the Bank of England. Why?
His GANZ ESG Banking Cartel has collapsed. Why? Because it was criminal behavior not in the interests of shareholders.
He will be exposed as the charlatan he is.
And remember that what ever he accuses Poilivere of planning is what he plans to do.
“Small town sociopaths”
When someone calls me a sociopath (I although I don’t live in a small town) … and that “someone” believes men can become women, and that our 11yo boys and girls must be taught in public schools -graphically- how to perform gay sex acts … and that massive government deficits and debt is just “the new economy” and that Canada needs to import poor black, brown, and yellow people because Canada is too white … and that the mass graves of Nazi-proportion of murdered Native children are REAL! And that all drugs should be legalized … because what a person puts into their own bodies is their choice … but don’t DARE put a piece of red beef into your bodies … and that the only solution to a “boiling planet” is to tax the shit out of you and forever END fossil fuels …
THAT person has a multiple diagnosis of mental illness and needs immediate chemical intervention. So I don’t take their comment seriously. I don’t take them seriously.
Here comes the Carnie fluffers out of the woodwork. That’s gotta be some kind of record.
The carbon tax will be higher and hidden.
Recall the controversy about the GST. It was initially meant to be hidden but there was public pressure favouring visibility which won the debate. Visibility is always best.
But, but, I depend on my rebate!!
Hahaha … we do this in CA too. Our PG&E Bills have gone up 50% over the past 4 years … BUT twice a year we get 5% of our bill discounted as a credit for the cap and trade taxes. Wheeeee! Yeayyyy! We’re getting money AND saving the planet!
Wait. What? What happened to 45% of my rate increase?
Carney eliminates the carbon tax; replaces it with the carbon levy.
Canada should threaten the US by saying we’ll inflict them with Toronto and Quebec.
Now you’re talking nuclear first strike, be careful…..
They’ll merge beautifully with San Francisco and NYC
Carney has a problem not having a seat in the HoC and the usually disengaged are puzzled how someone that isn’t even elected can be PM.
These are folks that normally don’t want to think or talk about politics, but this fact is breaking through the cognitive dissonance.
But I digress
The liberals once campaigned on “keeling da gee Hess tee”.
How’d that work out?
Still paying the gouging and screwing tax.
Your industry doesn’t qualify for Carney’s exemption for “individuals, farmers, and small businesses” … so you’re still fkcued! AND subject to Trump’s 10% tariff too.
The Fossil fuel industry has been made a pariah by the institutionalized global warming cabal … esp. in Canada! Sayyyyy is Canada still observing the Paris global warming nonsense? Of course you are. Good luck with that … but keep blaming Trump for your malaise. Keep blaming a man who LOVES fossil fuels. I guess you are so used to being defensive … that you no longer know who your TRUE friends are.
And yeah … shill for your own maximum profits while the average man struggles to pay for fossil fuels. Don’t drill anymore. Don’t scrape more tar sands. Meter out your energy. Create FAKE scarcity to Jack up fossil fuel prices. I’ve always said that Chevron LOVES the entire “global warming” movement because it has helped create higher prices for their products. Talk about your interlocking corporate – government directorates!? And … Brian … you’re a mouthpiece for those same anti-consumer policies. But hey! As Pink Floyd sang …
Money
It’s a gas
Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash
Vladimir Putin got more legit votes (according to NATO sources) than Netanyahu, Truss, Sunak, Scholz, Macron, Trudeau and Carney … COMBINED.
Let that sink in …
Where in the hell did you dream that from?
Simply by adding reported numbers.
It will be renamed, end result the same.
Worse. It will be hidden. But yeah … you’re still gonna $PAY$ it. But how much wouldn’t you $PAY$ to … save the planet from evil fossil fuel planet rapers? (sic)
Hubby and I were talking about ‘what ifs” –
could JT appoint Carney as a senator and have him rule from there? (wiki says that John Abbott in 1891 and Bowell in 1894 did)
and, might Carney winning the leadership give Dogmeat false hope and
thus encourage him to bring the gov’t down?
Just wondering….
I think it unlikely they’ll try to have a senator as prime minister, it would be too irregular for more than a short interim. If they don’t want a general election right away they’ll pick a a constituency they believe they can rely on for a by-election and appoint its current MP to the senate to make way for Marx Carnage. (So, not likely PM Castreau will appoint his successor to the Senate, rather his successor will appoint Castreau to the Senate.)
Trudeau said he’d resign as Lib leader and prime minister. Maybe Trudeau will become Carney’s finance minister or foreign minister. Trudeau as Senator, as you said, would be cute too. The best would be ambassador to USA.
Socks prefers Macroni.
Or is it a Canadian to the last Ukranian?
Kanadians are likely going to have to suffer an extreme amount of pain before smartening up. Jughead reneging on voting to bring down the government might just help do that. Crooked Carbon Tax Carnage might try doing a by-election rather than risk losing an early general election even though it would likely be a minority for CPC. That might be enough time for Kanadians to realise things still aren’t getting any better.
Per my post above.
Having an unelected PM is not a winning strategy.
It keeps the current government very much associated with the last decade and it presents Canada as a very unserious country.
In the liberal mind, they actually believe they just needed a new shade of lipstick and all their problems would go away.
But unless he can stand in the House he won’t be seen as legit, and he’s not covered by parliamentary privilege if he says something out in the lobby of the HoC.
If he can’t stand in the House it means he won’t benefit from the bully pulpit of Question Period so his profile will diminish until he can take a seat.
See the problem.
He has to hope like hell that the NDP doesn’t find its spine before the next confidence vote so he can establish himself as PM before the opposition can show him to be the career bureaucrat (aka Ottawa hall monitor)
Zinchuk is a journo who concentrates exclusively on the energy sector. Not politics, except as it has an impact on the energy sector.
Giving him a hard time because he doesn’t denigrate the object(s) of your hatred enough is pretty pathetic.
Thank you. Greatly appreciated. I have written a lot about politics over the years, but you are correct in that I try to focus as much as possible on the energy sector with Pipeline Online. And since it is the largest part of the 1. Canadian economy 2. Saskatchewan economy. 3. Alberta economy, as measured by GDP, certainly politics affects it a great deal. Like when prime ministers kill pipelines.
I think your work has value, and I like to see it here.
I hope that you don’t let these people get to ya. Its just the internet, which is, as we all know, full of all sorts of vitriol.
I’m not sure why a handful of people are losing their minds either. You didn’t say you were supporting Carney. You simply stated/reported on some things that objectively happened, in reality, as far as I can tell anyway.
Aw, c’mon.
Don’t be a sore retard.
You’re really mad that anyone pointed out that your DeepSeek AI ChiCom hero saviors needed several tens of millions dollars to regenerate models.
And then, upon real analysis, several billions of dollars to replicate, let alone adjust them.
So your turbo’d 486, well, it just wasn’t up to the task.
You’re a joke yw. Just like your wonderful great friend and ludicrous incompetent innumerate braindead numbnuts “journalist” (who parades that idiotic title unironically) Zeinkchuk. Accept how fucking stupid you are.
Please.
Or don’t. It’s pretty amusing to the rest of us.
I’ve been given the discretion to delete posts like this. I’m telling you now so you understand why your boorish posts get nuked. FAFO. @Kenji, that means you too.
You really are the greatest hero ever, Zincuck.
Are the Carney’s lips moving?
He be lying.
I guess to be Dear Leader of The Liberal Party of Can Ahh Duh, one has to be Liar El Supremo.
Cause our Liberal Voting Citizens ,they sure love them sweet lies, the bigger the better.
I am rooting for Max Carnage.
Sooner the Uni-Party slides him into power the better.
Another “I am Napoleon”.
When shall we start the real conversation ?
How do we separate our affairs from people so corrupt and stupid?
The longer we procrastinate, the further the Free Stuff Army marches.
Cancel the Welfare State and the FSA will march east.
What boundaries can we defend?
What institutions shall we retain?
Can we create a better constitution than our Southern cousins?
Is there any point in becoming a new nation?
The Swiss have some very interesting ways of governing.
Can we afford to repeat the idiocy that brought us to here?
Freezing in the dark to please the fancies of utterly ignorant ideologues is not a future I can embrace.
And Brian Z..keep up the good work.
Appreciate the coverage.
Carney will perform as he is instructed.
https://x.com/shadowofezra/status/1898880210398826792
Someone instructed him to include that stuff in the background.
https://x.com/shadowofezra/status/1898874806550122985
It’s not just WEF.
Exactly!!!
Carney’s plan is to hide the tax better… he thinks the mistake was making it visible.
There are pictures floating around of Carney in the pool on an infamous island in the Bahamas with Jeffrey Epstein, and 5 girls whose age wouldn’t add to 100, Jeffie’s nieces no doubt? /sarc Getting those out right after the writ would be useful, most of the true pedo supporters are lefties, but it would chase some soft Libs back to CPC.
Is it possible that Carney can do aritmetic and that he has actually figured out the impact of a carbon tax on temperature? I don’t think so either!
Our governments and the press continue to mislead the public by measuring ‘success’ in terms of tonnes of CO2, rather than degrees.
If Canada’s emissions were to go to zero, global warming would be deferred by 1°C in 4055 years. Here’s the math:
According to the IPCC’s latest comprehensive report: “For every 1000 GtCO2 emitted by human activity, global surface temperature rises by 0.45°C (best estimate, with a likely range from 0.27°C to 0.63°C).”
Translated to more commonly used metrics, this is a very broad “likely” range of 0.00000027°C to 0.00000063°C temperature impact per megatonne (Mt) CO₂ emitted. The science is not settled. Canada’s total emissions in 2022 were 548 Mt. This means that we warmed the globe by 0.000148°C to 0.000345°C, or 1°C per 2897 to 6759 years.
IPCC’s “best estimate” (0.00000045°C) gives Canada’s impact at 0.000247°C or 1°C in 4055 years.
Using identical logic, Canada’s widely heralded and expensive plan to reduce emissions by 90 megatonnes would have deferred global warming by one degree in 24,691 years! Whopee shit!
I don’t know why people hate on Brian so much. But if Carney says he is canceling the carbon tax, get ready for a newer, bigger, and better tax. One that better aligns with the vision of Canadians. The “ream-me” tax.
Way back in the 90s the Royal Canadian Air Farce, on the radio, did a Christmas special where they referred to the “Gouging and Screwing Tax” (GST). I never forgot that, and still use that term. Your ream-me tax is along the same lines.
And thanks for the support. Some people are just unhinged.
I was hoping we’d see Pierre Poilievre sooner rather than later. He and Trump could probably talk turkey pretty quickly and get things moving forward. It’s not as if the Canucks will hate Americans any less than they did long before Trump called Zoolander “governor”, but it might turn down the burners in the meantime. If this guy, Carney, is running on an anti-Trump stump, he’ll prolong the pain and brag about it.
I notice the media says Marx Carney is killing the “consumer” Carbon Tax but not saying he’s raising it elsewhere thus making it invisible. The media ends the story with he axing the tax. Nothing about extending it to industry.
They are trying to neuter the CPC “Axe The Tax” line.
