    1. Strauss – CBC didn’t comment on the parallels. Funny how they missed that as it was the first thing that came to mind for me.
      CBC has even called them Pretendians. You’ll never hear them refer to pretend women in a similar manner.
      Elizabeth Warren must be relieved that Buffy is sharing the Pretendian spotlight with her. Fake it ’til you break it.

  11. The Order of Canada was always a joke when you look at the people awarded. What this proves is that in addition to awarding anyone whoever blockaded a road preventing resource workers from going to work, it was also based on the chemical determinism of DNA as opposed to the pretense of DNA.

  12. It’s time for Beverly Jean Santamaria to either voluntarily give back the awards that should have gone to more deserving indigenous individuals, or for them to be rescinded by the issuing authorities.

    1) Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards Lifetime Achievement Award [2008]

    2) Juno Award for Indigenous Music Album of the Year [2018]

    3) Indigenous Music Awards for Best Folk Album [2018]

  13. I have many Native friends who are musicians. They don’t live on the Rez and don’t take any money other than what they worked for. I am over the top pissed about Indians just like you guys are. My best friend is part native and he hates the Indians. As someone who has spent most of his life in and around the music industry I can imagine how the folks who came in second to awards where she came in first must feel. Tours and record deals lost. Opportunities stolen.

    1. You’re welcome. Some of the Natives I know were welders before they made it. Graham Greene was a welder in Hamilton and then did the sound board for Crowbar and then went on to do the mixing board for many albums then became an actor. I have drank with this guy and believe me he is no whinny Native. He made this happen for himself.

    We were told in elementary school that Buffy was a great singer, and it was not permitted to criticise that.
    Some people are above being critiqued, I also recall having the entire music class singing along to Cher’s “Gypsies Tramps and Thieves” … as I watched the prettiest girl in class faking it and only moving her lips

    I expect this in countries which have different laws for different peoples based upon their race.

    Seems to me, I would provide DNA analysis results to shut the naysayers up. But it’s unwillingness to do so speaks volumes.

  20. She did a few things that were Indian significant but white people unremarkable. She wrote “Until It’s Time for You to Go” and co-wrote “Up Where We Belong” plus a load of mediocrity. There are hundreds of whities with one or two hits that nobody remembers. Her later work reminded me of Yoko Ono at her prime.
