Global- ‘Taxpayers can’t keep paying for this’: Thousands of RCMP vehicles destined for crusher
The same government that banned single-use plastics for environmental reasons has been quietly crushing thousands of decommissioned RCMP vehicles for the past four years, Global News has learned.
The RCMP has the largest law enforcement fleet in North America, consisting of approximately 12,000 vehicles. Around 1,600 are retired from service each year, along with more than 4,700 light-duty vehicles like snowmobiles and ATVs. Historically, they were auctioned off, earning about $8 million at resale.
So much for all that propaganda about recycling.
I wish I knew a sure-fire way to ensure all taxpayers’ money is well spent.
But as Thomas Sowell has noted, governments will never spend the taxpayer’s money as carefully as people spend their own. I think part of the problem is that taxpayer money doesn’t seem real to politicians and bureaucrats, the same illusion that casinos try to instill.
OPM never spends the same way as your own hard earned money.
They’re crushing them because a guy bought a couple in Nova Scotia, dressed them up and went on a rampage. The OPP used to sell them. A partial paint job to cover up the police ID and put them on the market. It was a good idea and still is. If someone wants to fake driving a police vehicle they don’t need an old one.
There should be 4 bureaucrats included with each vehicle. What a waste.

I wonder is this cost/loss included in what I laughingly call the “budget”?
Not only are they not recouping some of the investment in the vehicles, BUT they are also paying for the crushing operations. What a lot of nodcocks!
Why don’t they give the vehicles to the car thieves they can’t catch and save on the disposal expenses? Send them to Ukraine or something, that’ll make them dissapear at no cost.

Many in the private sector are “licensed, bonded and insured” as good business practice or because their profession requires a state/provincial license. Why shouldn’t the same rules apply to government employees?

DOGE is literally pointless except as a means to severely damage the security of confidential data. There is nothing productive it does that GAO or other government bodies do. There is no magic ‘waste/gravy’ stream to capture and curtail.
