  4. Reading about the figure skaters killed in the Washington DC plane crash reminded me that this has happened before:

    ”Sabena Flight 548 was a scheduled international passenger flight from Idlewild Airport in New York City to Brussels Airport in Belgium. On 15 February 1961, the Boeing 707-329 operating the flight crashed on approach to Brussels Airport, killing all 72 people on board and one person on the ground.[1][2] The fatalities included the entire United States figure skating team, which was traveling to the World Figure Skating Championships in Prague, Czechoslovakia.[3][4] The precise cause of the crash remains unknown; the most likely explanation was thought to be a failure of the mechanism that adjusts the tail stabilizer.[1]”

    As I drive Friday to the north in the land of 306 to my birthplace, I will be passing thru a small town east of Saskatoon. Odds are quite good, although the weather is to get cold, my bank account will be heating up.

    1. One of the things people misunderstand in commenting on the plane lights is that the direction of flight is not the same as the line of sight from the camera. In other words, the pilot did not see the roman candle of lights that we see. Who knows what he saw. I live north of the flight path for Pearson International (by 10-20 km) and can see the planes turning for descent. When they are flying toward my house you see a bright light. Then suddenly the light is gone as the planes turn 90 degrees to my house heading for the runway.

        Also, it can be very difficult to tell how far away a plane is when all you see is a light coming towards you

    1. Mother-in law received a cheque with her last name that of her first husband who died 40 years ago. Not her maiden name. Not her current legal name of 2nd marriage. I fear this is not an isolated case. How many millions will be paid out in error?

      Rick – My wife’s cheque came with her maiden name, we’ve been married 48 years. Birth certificate and marriage license got the bank to add her maiden name to her list.

  24. Robert, I have to admit I was disappointed watching One Step Beyond. Of course it was television from 1959, so should have taken that into account.

    But looking at one episode that had Ross Martin in it, it reminded me of another series with him I used to watch in the mid-60’s that would not be allowable to be aired today just because of the graphics used to delineate each chapter within the episode: The Wild Wild West.

    1. Don’t tell them S. Alberta is warm more often than cold in the winter. I don’t want anymore of them moving here. Let them go to Victoria BC.

      2. The irony is that the vacancy rate in Victoria and area is close enough to Zero, to call it that. It’s definitely a hindrance to keeping them away.
        That said, for a bunch of poor refugees from hells half acre, they seem to have money.
        Going to Costco is like a trip to an airport. It’s shore nice of our gubments to provide these foreigners with lots of free munny for their benefit.
