Andrew Potter- Sovereignty is a verb
Any student of Canadian history knows that the borders of Canada are highly contingent. Rewind the tape of the past, and there are any number of moments where things could have turned out differently. In some scenarios, Canada ends up smaller than it currently is; in others, Canada ends up larger, perhaps substantially so. And in some alternative histories, Canada does not exist at all — or if it does, we’re all speaking French.

Apparently the English won and then refused to be victorious. The word is STUPID and has been for very long time. Just foad all you idiots and morons. You deserve to be punished for the stupidity of yourself and your ancestors. I do not.
I came (from E Europe!) to Canada in 1999 so I can say I have an outside view: English/British can claim that they won all they want but truth is that French played the long game and they are the winners. Plus, European Socialism.
If you’re not fluent in French, you have no chance at high-level federal politics. Also, all products GOT to have French translation, even if you’re in some remote farmland little town, AB/SK. Not to mention Quebec who behaves like First Mistress of Louis XIV.
And Socialism? Is as common as cold weather.
Socialism works until you run out of other people’s money.
The hard lesson is coming in February
I posted this on another thread earlier but it is more appropriate here,
A great topic of discussion TARIFFS. What the majority of Canadians don’t realize or are loathe to recognize is that without the benevolence of our neighbour Canada would not exist. Our politicians can huff and puff, bloviate and boast, but when the rubber hits the road we as a country cannot exist without America. Threatening to impose counter tariffs on America would be akin to cutting off our nose. Threatening to boycott American vacation or tourist destinations and substitute them for Canadian ones is to substitute tofu for steak. We are for all intents and purposes a vassel state, a protectorate of America. Liberal, socialist policies have weakened our ability to be a true independent sovereign state and the sooner Canadians realize and accept that fact the sooner we will start to recover the status that we once held three generations ago.

Great article.
I don’t know how I got there but on the same page is Michelle Rempel’s essay on I went to Davos. The World Economic Forum is not running Canada Feb. 24/2022
Which in retrospect aged like milk.
You chubby, blonde haired weasel. How you’re still in Canadian politics is a damn mystery.
Ontario and Quebec influence on borders are why there are 3 small prairie provinces, not 1 large one.
They were afraid of a large block of western voters, so they broke them up.
This is the key part, “But at some point, we forgot about what it had taken us to get there. ”
That took place during the two decades that Pierre Trudeau was PM. He was entirely hostile to the United States. He was entirely hostile to the Great Britain of Margaret Thatcher. He was the first NATO power to open relations with Cuba. He sought to enhance relations with Mao despite the horrors of the Great Leap Forward. Worse, he permanently divided the country into irreconcilable camps over the infamous National Energy Program and the National Languages Act. His crowning act of political vanity was the Constitution Act of 1982.
For anyone who actually likes the notion of Canada, Pierre did his best to tear it apart. And his witless Spawn has done his best to continue the family tradition.
No question that Pierre Trudeau was a Maoist……so was Maurice Strong, Chretien, Alan Rock and certainly little Justin. My father came from Russia a few years after the Bolshevik Revolution. Landed in Canada in the late 1920’s. He would tell me that Canada wasn’t a country. He said it is more like the Soviet Union….and that trying to strengthen central control was a HUGE mistake. As we now realize.
Forget Trump, we need a Cromwell.
Well, the problem with Cromwell (which the founders of the US took note of) was that he didn’t so much want to replace the system as much as he wanted to run it.
In our case, if the US had moved a bit faster to offer the UK a sufficient amount for Ruperts Land territory the total territory of the BNA would be a strip of land extending from Toronto to the Gaspe.
My border is now at the end of my driveway, there I would fight.
But the administrative state that surrounds me? Meh, they’re on their own, I would welcome a better one.
