I’m old enough to remember when extremist rhetoric was a bad thing.
The Unabomber’s unhinged demonization of modernity and capitalism was a fringe position in the ’90s. Now the unhinged demonization of healthcare insurance, the pharmaceutical industry, and Big Oil (all industries, despite their inadequacies, that make lives better for everyone) is the norm. A generation of college students have been indoctrinated into believing the profit motive is killing people when the opposite is true.
One expects Mangione’s writing will be largely indistinguishable from what a person hears from elected progressives and pundits. Yet few will ponder why a seemingly rational Ivy League-educated engineer decided to become a hit man.

There are enough manifestos out there now and enough information about mass gun murderers to conduct a sociological study. Which polilitical direction do those indicated above tend to lean,’libertarian’, or ‘socialist’?
No doubt this is an uncomfortable question and exercise for some.
“Um, I’ll take ‘Who’ for $500, Alex…..uninformed/misinformed nutbars who are totally disconnected from reality”?
The problem now is that many sectors, or at least many companies within those sectors, have become aligned with and even fervent allies of the malignant powers that be. And nowaways some of those don’t make lives better for everyone. Ask RFK Jr. about that or those damaged or the families of those killed by the clot shots.
Having said that, it’s undeniable that malicious indoctrination is occuring and has been occuring in schools for an untold number of years to lay the blame on modernity and capitalism, especially the latter even though it doesn’t exist in any unfettered form nowadays and hasn’t for a good long while.

Huh? You’ll have to do better than some cryptic comment about a nonexistent bogeyman.
He’s referring to his least favourite priest, Father Buttplug. And I don’t blame him.
It ‘s just part of the Marxist march through the institutions aimed at preparing the degraded “culture” for the institutional violence and depravity to come. As moral relativism replaces common decency, the rule of law and other facets of western civilization, those deemed enemies of the people by self appointed commissars that have claimed moral license to be free to assassinate them – can be eliminated. There is no limit to the number of potential targets applicable. Most politicians, much of the professoriate, judiciary, and bureaucracy would certainly qualify if I were to adopt such moral equivalence. Look to see this happening in a culture where or when free speech is eliminated, leaving no “legal” alternative means of debate, persuasion, and resolution. It’s why concentration camps and Gulags become necessary to protect those in power. It’s also why Marxism always leads to a Stalinist-like repressive state.

What I find interesting is how nobody even questions the amount of law enforcement resources that have been thrown into investigating *this* murder. We don’t even bat an eye to the multi-tier justice system anymore. A regular, 9-5, law-abiding citizen gets killed and Barney Fife will add it to his docket and look into it when he can.
About 2 people are murdered every day in NYC.
“…nobody even questions…”
Of course not. When you see lazy unionized public employees actually doing their jobs and being effective, you know damn well the fix is in. 24 hours later they reviewed all the camera footage in the area and got the guy? How much did that cost? That’s enough overtime to consume half the snow clearing budget for the year. Yes, for sure the mayor made a phone call. Yes, for sure they stopped doing everything else and did this instead.
To the point where some pundits are wondering if this is even really the guy who did it, or if this arrest is window dressing for the rubes. Coats don’t really match, they say. On the other hand the guy isn’t shrieking his innocence, so maybe a false-flag?
After all, this is NYC. Greatest city in the world, where Epstein “committed S*icide” while in police custody, in maximum security, where a normal man couldn’t really manage that.
Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?
The Shadow knows.
It’s Not How You Play the Game.
In 2015, observers of the Clinton campaign will have noted that, for liberals, The End Justifies The Means. (Trump’s biggest mistake in his first term was failing to have his DOJ investigate and prosecute Hillary Clinton, who is likely the most criminal politician of the last half century).
In 2020, observers of the Biden administration will have noted that this is now the policy guideline for a liberal president. Student Loan Forgiveness is unconstitutional? Well let’s have MORE OF IT. Christians are celebrating mass in Latin? They must be investigated and persecuted. Illegal immigration is illegal? Let’s have TONS OF IT.
How could we expect any less of our offspring?
“UnitedHealthcare, in particular, has come under public scrutiny as it dramatically increased care denials for its Medicare Advantage enrollees.
The insurer more than doubled the rate of denials for care following hospital stays between 2020 and 2022 as it implemented machine-assisted technology to automate the process, according to a Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigation’s report released in October. That far surpassed its competitors, including Humana, whose care denials grew 54% during the same time period.”
Given that corporate CEOs are behind a lot of the woke agenda that pushes liberal DEI initiatives down our throats, I am impressed by how quickly conservatives rally behind one when they get murdered. If it was the CEO of Disney that got shot, would anyone on the right be all that upset?
Daniel Penny was definitely a hero. So was Luigi.
Conservatives were quick to denounce the Whitmer “assassination attempt”, and denounce the “perps” as well.
Liberal media = the enemy.
Conservative media = controlled opposition at best, traitors at worse.
“I am impressed by how quickly conservatives rally behind one…”
Generally, Conservatives don’t like yellow-bellied backsh00ters. Particularly when they can’t even do it properly, ffs. Three jams? Come on.
If he’d had the guts to look #CEO in the eye and -then- sh00t him, in the front, I might be able to summon a little respect for having the strength of his demented convictions. As it is, no. It’s an honor and courage thing, you wouldn’t understand.
But, and this is the part Lefties always seem to miss, if you boys on the Left are going around sh00ting people in the back over politics and bananas ideology, it will not be long before the rest of us decide it is on like Donkey Kong. And as we have just seen a couple weeks ago, Lefties are very much in the minority. And they suck at this stuff.
See how that works, Mr./Ms./Whatever Cardano?
Oh and by the way. I’ve worked in the NY state health industry personally. Physical therapist, Yonkers NY and Mr. Vernon NY. And as badly as #UnitedHealth and NYC hospitals suck, and I’ll be the first to say they do suck compared to Minnesota or Arizona, they are WAY freaking better than anything you can get in Canada. Just so you know.
I have spent an adult lifetime being covered by ewwwwww … for-PROFIT medical insurance companies. I’ve had the gamut of companies, from Kaiser to United Healthcare. I have never once, nor has my wife been denied service… including a serious neurological (brain) problem my wife experienced … and I have a chronic condition. Drug copays have always been reasonable, and not only has no service or drug ever been denied, but all approvals were always rapid.
Where’s the denial of service I keep hearing about … but rarely if ever gets defined by ACTUAL stories. I suspect that most denial of care is probably really an offer of “alternative” care such as recommending a generic drug in lieu of a brand name.
The wife and I have just had to cancel our United Healthcare Medicare advantage plan, which we pay $75./mo. in addition to Medicare’s $174.00/mo. payment. The reason is they are dropping their PPO and making it into an HMO. But here’s the thing about capitalism … even when it is partnered with government (Medicare) healthcare … we are now with a different company … and although we no longer get to “keep our Doctors” … we have access to an excellent local medical group. Capitalism has given us multiple alternative choices. And now we pay $0.00 for our Medicare Advantage plan for very comparable, if not improved coverage.
The people who say ewwwwwww “profits” have no place in medicine are frankly blithering idiots. I WANT my Doctors (and Medical Insurance CEO’s) to be living comfortably. Government medicine (Medicare) has now restricted far more of medical choices, and cost me MUCH MORE $$$ for some of my medications and hospitalization than when we were covered by ewwwwwwwww only a “for profit” health insurance Corp. These people have NO IDEA how complex it is to operate a medical services plan, and actually believe government work-from-home bureaucrats can operate such as system. I will gladly pay for ewwwwww Coporate “profits” … instead of rampant Medicare FRAUD, theft, and abuse.
So, you think that giant, multi-national globalist health insurance companies are not just as involved with fraud, theft and abuse as say, the little guy who said he doesn’t smoke to get coverage, and this because the giant corpos get profit?
Do you think shareholders, which in this case are 90%+ institutions should make bank, too?
That your health care money should go not to doctors and medical expenses, but shareholders? Now wonder healthcare in the USA is so expensive.
The major shareholders of United Health Care are Vanguard and Blackrock
No wonder you have to stand in a long queue to get medical care in Canada … if you can even FIND a Doctor.
PS … my Medicare Advantage plan is now with a small, local, medical group … NOT a giant multinational Corp. Capitalism Baby!!!! Choices Baby!!!!
No doubt but that Canada is much worse than America, but some places do actually have decent, inexpensive and effective health-care. Canada and America most emphatically do not. Canada gets state corruption and gross distortion of the market, the USA gets globalist corruption and distortion of the market, exacerbated by state actors who are, in turn, lobbied by the globalist actors.
The American system is better only in that in the USA, they generally won’t try to kill you.
Dead men pay no bills, after all.
You are both ignorant and deluded. Canada’s public health system is done for. Private care in Canada, if you can find it, is excellent.
The USA has the best physicians and hospitals in the -world-, bar none. There is no better care available anywhere, for any money. Arab oil sheiks worth billions fly to America when they have cancer. A street bum in LA has access to better care than rich guys in France. I have seen it.
If the very wealthy will travel from wherever to access American medical services, then that which is easily accessible by your average Amazon employee or garbage truck driver must also be excellent, right?
Either you don’t really know how to count, or you’re an idiot, or both.
Working in NY county hospitals (which are sh1tty I hasten to add) I -regularly- witnessed indigent American bums with a variety of disgusting addictions and habits/criminal records etc. get half-million dollar workups courtesy of the hospital. Happens -all- the time. Surgeries, chemo, detox, whatever. Treatments which are commonly on super-waiting list in Canada, for example knee replacements, neurosurgeries, MRIs, etc.
All across the USA, that’s how it is. Bernie Sanders likes to lie about it, but that’s how it is. A street bum in LA can get better work done that anybody anywhere else in the world. Look up ‘hemicorpectomy’. I know of a case in NYC where street-bro got one of those because diabetic ulcers and non-compliance with sanitation, shall we say. Enjoy the pictures, they are really something.
“Either you don’t really know how to count, or you’re an idiot, or both.” One more possibility exists, dewd. I worked there, I saw it, and you didn’t.
But don’t feel too bad, the propaganda has been hot-and-heavy since #PonyTheElder socialized medicine here in Canuckistan in the 1970s. There are legions of deluded Canadian goofs who agree with you. They’re wrong of course, but they do agree with you.
Don’t be an idiot, Phantom.
Just because a bum can get free healthcare in the USA doesn’t mean an Amazon employee or garbage truck driver can.
Keep building those straw-men!
Phantom … you are SO 100% correct. Bernie Sanders … and Obama … are/were LIARS!! Before Obamakkare … poor Americans … received 100% FREE medical care. 100% FREE … TOP … medical care. It was a LIE … a filthy, dirty, communist LIE that America was the only industrialized nation that let poor people die without medical care. A gawd damnned LIE.
My mentally ill son received 100% FREE medical care after he turned 18 … BEFORE Obamakkare. And the County-provided care was top notch.
you kenji are again spot on re the deplorbleness that’s getting far worse, as shown by my personal experience.
a referral to a dermatologist to look into why 50 years later l get antibiotic prescriptions 8 times this year after half a friggin century clear. . . . . april 202SIX.
the GP’s staff advise me to ‘call around’ find one that will accept the referral earlier. this is NOT ‘anecdotal’ either.
The third party payers of health care in the US are insurers mandated up the ying-yang by the state. Our third party payer is the state where tens of thousands of people continually die while on waiting lists for treatment. Large corporations enjoy virtual monopolies thanks to their influence with the state and its regulatory output. For someone allegedly claiming to be pro liberty, your take on shareholders betray something quite different. Oh, and Vanguard and Blackrock are also a pool of shareholders as opposed to something uniquely scary or threatening.
“Oh, and Vanguard and Blackrock are also a pool of shareholders as opposed to something uniquely scary or threatening.”
You have to be a paid bot, nobody on this site could really be that ignorant.
United healthcare pays about a 1.6 percent dividend. Not exactly making shareholders rich.
There’s no point in talking to them, Kenji. These retards think health care is a -right-. When you tell them it is A) a service and B) nobody works for free they get all bent out of shape and start frothing at the mouth.
Personally, as a physical therapist, I do not work for free. It took me a long time and a lot of money to get that degree, not to mention my skillz etc. that I have built over the years. Nobody has a RIGHT to my time and expertise. Nobody. You want me to fix your busted whatever, you will -pay-. And you will d@mn well be polite while you’re at it.
You like building straw-men, too.
…and you seem to be labouring under the illusion that health-care in the USA is provided by a free market.
Health care in the USA is -partially- provided by private companies. There is a great deal of government interference/corruption/horse-trading going on between local, state and federal levels, insurance companies, HMOs, and lots more alphabet soup.
I’m not saying it isn’t crooked, you dunce. I’m saying it is the best you can get. Try to hold more than one parameter in your head at a time, eh?
I would estimate the market for healthcare to be about as “free” as the car market. Yes there is corruption aplenty from hospitals all the way up through the insurance companies and drug manufacturers to the CDC, but as a private individual I can still go and -buy- an x-ray of my broken foot. If I want the Cadillac I can get it.
I can’t do that in Canada. I have to drive to Buffalo (or visit a friendly veterinarian). Also, big plus, if they are corrupt and steal my money or hurt me, I can SUE them and get it back, because #UnitedHealthWhatever is a private company. Something else I can’t do in Canada, as a practical matter. Technically you can. Sort of. Practically? No. Can’t win suing city hall, or OHIP. You want to win with OHIP you need ‘Friends’ in the bureaucracy. That’s how socialism works.
I would like to know how you manage to pay $0.00? As a Canadian my free health care/medical care costs us thousands in taxes every year.
It’s a little rich to suggest that institutions and bureaucracies are beyond reproach and could never drive one to murder. I should think, with all we are learning about govt, police and corporations we might want a more nuanced approach.
“Now the unhinged demonization of healthcare insurance, the pharmaceutical industry, and Big Oil (all industries, despite their inadequacies, that make lives better for everyone) is the norm. A generation of college students have been indoctrinated into believing the profit motive is killing people when the opposite is true.”
Well he’s wrong about Big Pharma.
The hand-wringing over “right-wing extremism” continues on as if the Bader-Meinhof gang, the Black Panthers and Italy’s Red Brigades had never existed.
Man, this thread filled up with WEF toadies pretty fast.
I would speculate the following:
– leftist indoctrination,
– moderate level of intelligence,
– unable to actually achieve his goals due to limited talent,
– psychoactive medication prescription, and
– intense desire for approval from anyone – even leftists would do.
Ted had a lot of good insights and was intelligent enough to get away with his terrorism it for a very long time. This fellows seems like a mid-wit at best. Complete lack of ability to plan ahead or foresee consequences.
I’ll second the comments about not want to start something along class warfare lines though. You will now start seeing the rise of private security as per South Africa. These sorts of private militias are the prelude to much much worse to come.
Luigi is a Wop. He likely imagines himself as an Al Capone character but killing for justice. Just business, not personal.
Mangione hoodies are flying off the shelves at retail stores…Lorenz Taylor and other nutjobs are getting wet talking about him… It won’t be long till he’s sexed up on the Rolling Stone front cover like the Boston Bomber.
Western culture is effed up.
We are raising some really sick and twisted girls. Thanks Disney
