  2. The DOGE and some American politicians appear to be considering eliminating all foreign aid. That would be a good first step for Canada too. CANADIAN MONEY FOR CANADIANS ONLY !

  3. The Trudeau Liberal-NDP government has burned too many bridges with energy rich, resource exporting provinces. It’s likely too late to ask for a Team Canada approach after torching national unity for 9 years.

    It’s quite odd for central Canada to talk about using “Canada’s” energy to retaliate against Trump tariffs when 2 minutes ago they were criticizing “Alberta’s” dirty oil and trying to put that industry out of business. The same goes for any attempt to use “Canada’s” uranium or potash after their constant attacks on Saskatchewan’s electricity system. Why would Saskatchewan and Alberta want to take marching orders from Trudeau or the rest of Canada after their complete disrespect for our province and it’s people?

    If they want cooperation from Alberta and Saskatchewan then they should have built Energy East, stopped attacking our electricity and petroleum industry, reformed equalization, extended the CO2 tax pause on all home heating and fired the federal Environmental Minster.

          Why does this country’s political establishment want to protect the street drug fentanyl crisis from being solved? Or, illegal immigration for that matter?

      2. My understanding is that Ford is talking about electricity that goes south from Ontario into great lake states. He’s free to do that but Ontario is energy vulnerable because there’s oil pipelines that flow north under the great lakes into Ontario refineries. Ironically a big portion of that oil comes from Alberta and some from Saskatchewan. Had there been the energy east pipeline build, Alberta’s oil wouldn’t have to go thru the US to get to Ontario.

        I may have missed it but did the premiers of Saskatchewan and Alberta come out of that meeting and make any threats to the US or Trump? I imagine the Trudeau government and other premiers would want to include Alberta and Saskatchewan exports to threaten Trump but why would Smith and Moe go along with such a plan?

          1. I’ve lived close to the Saskatchewan-US border in a few different communities over the years. Lots of trips to the US side to get fuel, groceries/meals and going to small town bars. In my experience, people from Alberta and Saskatchewan have more in common with North Dakota and Montana than they do with people from Ontario and Quebec. Perhaps that’s because both sides of that part of the Canada-US border are also working in energy and agriculture industries.

        If the Americans retaliate as they are capable of doing, Canada would be a third world country very quickly, even faster than Trudeau is turning us into one.

      1. Equalization has created the same perverse incentives as any other money-for-nothing program. The equalization receiving provinces game the system to get more and more cash without any requirement to correct the problems in their economy. There should have been time limits and/or a sunset clause to require equalization receiving provinces to become self-sufficient.

  7. I utterly LOATHE the whole concept of “Team Canada” – it’s a bunch of crony corporatism, “National Champion”-style rent-seeking, mindless “photo-op-able” boosterism, and a continuation of this stupid Canadian delusion that The Government Is Your Friend And Benefactor.

    Having been involved in an industry association in the past, I found that a quieter, more decentralized approach was better and more effective, and while certainly having some level or levels of government as a supportive partner can help sometimes, generally government can help best when it gets out of the way.

    Quite simply, the actual day-to-day, one-foot-in-front-of-the-other, ‘blocking & tackling’ aspect of building a business is rather prosaic but I found that government – always wanting to take credit for everything – has little interest in this, and instead insists on things are ‘press-release-able’ and ‘photo-op-able’ like all this Team Canada bullsh*t.

    Good riddance.

  9. There never has been a “Team Canada”. Western Canada is the birth place of all protest political movements throughout our history. Plus they have started while Lieberal or CON-servative governments have been in office. What does that tell us?
    It’s self-evident that western Canada is viewed as subservient and beholden to the Ottawa elites (in all parties) and if we express our displeasure with our plight they will run over us…even with horses if need be.
    But the west, as pointed out by Ted Byfield is like the battered wife that lacks the courage to leave.
    He pointed out that “until they think we might get out they will do nothing to keep us in!”

    I pray Westerners won’t get sucked in by the latest P.C. Leader that says all the right things and lulls us to sleep for the next 10 Years. Just like Mulroney did.

Any hopes Ontarians had for Doug Ford to be a principled conservative evaporated under his dreadful Covid-era “leadership” where he totally turned on his own Ford Nation – an urban/suburban multi-ethnic coalition of populists and small businesspeople that was actually capable of winning election and became, in effect, Justin Trudeau’s ball waxer. The only reason he was re-elected is because his two opposition parties are, respectively: super insane and super-duper insane.

      I actually ran into Doug Ford last year but – to his face – referred to him “Kathleen Wynne” and “Dalton McGuinty” because, I told him, he was indistinguishable from them

      Alberta has three million less people in it than the GTA and only a third of the population of Ontario but it’s a province too.

  18. PEI is where Moncton keeps their extra lobster boats and golf courses, which are both good things. Let them be.

    That said Halifax city councilors have more people in their wards than PEI MP’s have in their ridings. For reference, US congress critters average 710,000 per district. Canadian MP’s average 103,000 per riding. We have waaaaaay too many politicians in Canada, and far too much government in general.

  19. Bronwyn Eyre an Excellent Minister lost in the fight against Idiots -Trudeau , Singh, Wilkinson, and the terminally insane Guilbeault! The idea of a Team Canada infuriates me—-as Bronwyn points out the fed have done everything possible to kill our Oil industry!
    Elections have consequences and voting for the liberals has basically destroyed Canada and the NDP ‘s Rolex boy trying to save his pension has put another nail in Canada’s coffin!
    The West must separate!
    ps The Sask cities voting for the NDP has not helped our position as we lost Excellent people like Bronwyn Eyre!
