Now that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is playing on the other team, it’s clear that the knives are out. Heather Heying and Brett Weinstein review a recent hit piece in The Atlantic regarding RFK’s promotion of cooking with beef fat as opposed to seed oils, as if advocating the use of animal fat could never by anything but a conspiracy theory. The article is a classic example of pre-emptive stigmatization. As Heying relates:
Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s view on fats is is about bucking convention, not promoting health. And so let’s just start with that with that subtitle, which again, the author, you know, may not have anything to do with the title of the subtitle, but I’ve seen this critique before. It’s, oh, he’s just a contrarian. And we’ve been called just contrarians. And it’s one of actually the most insipid and wrong and ridiculous contentions that actual scientists can be can be slapped with.

If you are in the unfortunate position of being exposed to leftists in real life and social media you can see the exact same thing happening to Elon Musk. Now this isn’t a defense of Musk. I always thought he and his products were overated-at best-but it’s interesting how he went to from cool cutting edge nerd who was going to save us from global warming to horrible greed-filled monster at the same rate he started disagreeing with the left. When I ask where the hell these self-righteous class warriors were the past dozen years when we were complaining about rich men using their wealth and influence to inflict terrible misery on loads of innocent people *cough* Soros *cough* *cough* I get the standard well thought and out irrefutable leftist response of “Shut the fuck up you stupid fascist!”
What? Now they tell me. I always have beef tallow to cook with. I render duck fat when I get some fat fall ducks. And spring snow geese are full of fat for rendering. Hard to beat eggs basted in duck fat.
Oh well….
I often wondered about those studies that push so hard to tell you that red meat increases the risk of heart disease. I never paid them much attention because I assumed that it was just the “soy” and “vegan” community tailoring reports to their needs.
Now, I’m beginning to wonder if the studies were sabotaged (inadvertently) from the beginning. Studies are starting to come out stating that certain vegetable and seed oils have been shown to contribute to heart disease. In the past, these oils had been thought to be the more healthy choice. So, what I’m getting at is this:
The red meat studies likely don’t put any effort into determining preparation of the dish. If a vast majority of those participating in the study prepare their red meat products with vegetable or seed oils (which is the common procedure these days), then perhaps any increase in heart disease among red meat eaters isn’t caused by the meat, but by the oil used to prepare the pan. Personally, I use butter. But, I used to use peanut oil for a time.
“Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s view on fats is is about bucking convention, not promoting health.” So says Heather Heying. She’s wrong. Beef fat is better for you than seed oils, and RFK Jr. knows that. (Lots of good info about that if you know where to look.) Heather ought to get up to date before saying that kind of crap.
Heying was just quoting the subtitle of The Atlantic article. Her personal beliefs, as evidenced by the discussion, are in line with RFK’s.
So the ‘experts’ who have LIED to us ad nauseum, are offended by RFK Jr.’s use of animal fat versus seed oils? Screw them! They can kiss my mocha brown arse! In exchange for mega payoffs from big agriculture, they have lied, and lied, and lied to us! And now they’re trying to undermine RFK Jr. by lying to us yet again! Bottom line: RFK Jr. truly believes what he says. So even if he’s wrong, at least, he’s not a paid LIAR!!
Margarine causes cancer. Anyone who eats margarine is a fool. No, I won’t bore you with the science here … but suffice to say margarine doesn’t exist in nature and nobody in your family tree ever ate anything remotely resembling margarine.
But … let’s be careful lest QuickDick weigh in on the tallow fat … con-trer-vousy… as I believe he is a BIG TIME canola farmer. And in fact … 1/4 of all Canadian farm receipts come from Canola black seed oil. https://www.canolacouncil.org/about-canola/industry/
Perhaps a BIG beautiful tariff is needed on rapeseed oil along with Brian Zinchuk’s oil?
Canola has quite a few non-consumable uses…including diesel, and the latest trend, bio-plastics.
3d printing frequently uses a bio plastic, and I’ll give you a hint of where it comes from: It is really quite corny.
I have eaten Becel, butter, corn oil, olive oil, processed foods, natural foods home cooked by me. I eat white bread, whole wheat bread, bacon, rare roast beef, McDonalds, pizza, hell everything that is supposed to kill me. Yet here I am an octogenarian still able to sit up and take nourishment. Beer is good for you.
My Mom was 94 when she passed away and always used margarine. Easier to spread and probably cheaper.
Heather and Brett are enervating academics who struggle volubly to articulate common sense, but, like true academicians, think they discovered it.
My dear wife and I share a nightmare of having to suffer a dinner party with Heather and Brett.
They hold forth on everything, complete with pie charts, and never fail to annoy me with their cloying banter that they think to be clever, when it is just catch up.
Is there a category for “woke but not woke” academicians like those two?
GAD!
Pie is good for you.
And yes, watching Brett is like watching someone mow their lawn; but then, some people watch others playing cards on television, because it would be too strenuous and demanding to play cards themselves.
I use canola oil for one thing only; seasoning cast iron skillets. It takes a higher temperature than other fats or oils without leaving a burnt taste,
After that, it’s bacon grease, beef fat when I can afford a cut of beef that will yield some fat, and butter, lots and lots of butter.

Years ago, when I was a kid, mom used margarine because it was being pushed as the modern, healthful thing to do. Well, my 3 siblings and I would often have little canker sores around the corners of our mouths. It wasn’t uncommon amongst our peers, either.
On some visit or other for one of us kids being sick, our old-school family doctor noticed a canker sore and asked mom if she was using margarine. “Yès.” He told her to stop and only use butter. She did, and we kids never had canker sores again.
It’s been butter for me ever since I was 5 or 6 years old. And I haven’t had a canker sore since then, either.
The Vegan psychotics are attacking beef and ALL beef products with everything they can muster. The SANE among us must resist their insanity.
The author of The Atlantic hit piece is one Yasmin Tayag: https://www.linkedin.com/in/yasmin-tayag-437b0b91
She purportedly has a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature and Human Biology from the University of Toronto. Then she went onto purportedly get a Master’s Degree in “Biology, General” in NYC.
Whatever her educational underpinnings, in the past 13 years, her brain has been damaged by TDS and the Woke Mind Virus, rendering her incapable of clear, logical thinking. But what does she care, she is paid to HATE anyone who doesn’t go fully along with the Official Narrative™. With a weak mind, no apparent curiosity, and seemingly no ethics, she’ll do whatever she’s told to do. Sad.
Used veggie oils and margarine for a lot of years until we switched to butter. We don’t buy jugs of oil anymore, just a liter or two of olive oil in a year and one or two spray cans of oil because it is so handy. I grew up on cream, butter and lard and everyone ate two plates of food and was thin as a rail.
The majority of the human brain is animal fat. Why would you feed it something else?
I have never bought margarine in my life. Never had it in my home.
What if It’s All Been a Big Fat Lie?

The Atlantic is a dumpster fire of misinformation 100% of the time. I assume the only reason it still exists is because Steve Jobs widow and Ghislaine Maxwell BFF funds it.
Find a product that isn’t touted as a panacea or claimed to be toxic or life shortening, if not life threatening.
Some of the confusion is due to flawed and corrupted research and some of it is due to half assed reporting, wildly extrapolated conclusions based on tantalizing, but iffy, correlations. Often the reporting bears no resemblance to the paper’s actual conclusions despite the best efforts of the researchers.
As Vinay Prasad has pointed out nutrition epidemiology is inherently difficult, due to multiple confounding factors, and is riddled with contradictions. Buyer beware.
That said, it is clear that American quality of life in terms of health has declined sharply and diet is the obvious place to start. If RFK can turn the tide on childhood obesity, diabetes, and fatty liver, count me in.
” If RFK can turn the tide on childhood obesity, diabetes, and fatty liver, count me in.”
Well he can’t, lol. He can get a lot of people killed with misinformation and nonsense.
I just hope the RFK agenda doesn’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. I object to another bureaucracy and maze of legislation. I don’t want farmers to be tied in more knots OR more confusion and exponentially greater cost for the consumer. Take it from someone who grinds their own organic wheat berries. It is expensive, time consuming, and more difficult. The baked goods have a much shorter shelf life. How is the family cook going to rustle up a nutritious meal upon getting home from basketball practice at 7:00 at night?
Margarine’s place in cuisine is right up there with WD40.
WD40.
Water dispersing. Test# 40 (San Diego) Convair aircraft.
Big Fat Surprise by Nina Teicholz is a fascinating read. She walks through the last number of decades of food research and exposes the lies of Big Ag and Big Food along with Big Pharma (who is now benefiting) and the lies and cherry picked science that lead to the development of the food pyramid. After reading her book, I never again touched a seed or palm oil or anything made with either. I highly recommend the book.
I think the last time I used Margarine was ~ 1970. mY mother had this thing against Butter…Why, I have no freaking idea.
Since then: Butter & for frying – Bacon Fat which I save…to this day.
& I’m Still here….72 yrs later.
Cool story bros. RFK is still a giant moron and a one-man plague of misinformation and nonsense who is going to gets lots of people killed if the senate is dumb enough to confirm him.
