Blog Notes

In the past few weeks many readers have emailed to report they were hitting “403 forbidden” pages, having comments disappear or most recently, were unable to access the site at all.

A bit of background: in September, our original hosting company was sold, and as a result, SDA was moved to a new hosting company and server. All seemed well at first, but as the reports of problems began to escalate, I ordered a site audit. That has been underway for the past couple of days and a number of issues were discovered that led us back to the hosting company and their service being inadequate and misconfigured for this type of site. Without going into the gory details (and they are gory), the issue has been found and (fingers crossed) resolved.

I apologize for the difficulties that so many of you have dealt with, and that it took so long to tease out the problem.

    1. Thank you for your tireless work and creative posts, Kate. Yeah, I’m obsessed. Forgive my kvetching about disappeared posts. But I never took it personal as it appeared far too random to be deliberate.

  1. Appreciate all the efforts. The higher the volume and complexity the higher the likelihood that there will be issues. This remains one of my go to sites daily.

    1. Mine too. In spite of some complaints I have about the platform and format, I’ve been a regular reader for twenty years or more (I think). I really appreciate the work Kate & Co. put into this project. I know I don’t have what it takes to anything like it.

  2. Switch to a platform where you can use Discus for comments. This WordPress thingy is clunkier than my first car.

    1. What did SDA switch to a while back that made comments appear in a weird format? Everyone complained, switched back real quick.

  3. aka ‘aint technology wunnerful’ /sarc off lol
bravo Kate. hope the site is still here another decade.

    the filter . . . . talk about ‘black box’ . . . . . . .

  4. SDA has stood the test of time (two plus decades) and has consistently stayed on
top of news items and opinions relevant to conservative Canadians, and thinking
    people elsewhere.
May this portal of sanity continue until the ‘madness of crowds’* abates.
    Thank you Kate & Co.

  6. Thanks Kate and crew for looking after this site.
Sent a small donation to help with the effort.
