If we know the total down to the last $10,000, the identity of many of the perpetrators must be known as well. Abtrapper – there are a fair few families where there is a strong suspicion (family wedding photo looks totally native; kids go seriously brown in the summer) that there are indigenous genes in the family background. We’re not wishing to trade on said ancestral history, but would like to be able to acknowledge same.
It is quite obvious to all of us with more than two brain cells that no amount of money will provide clean drinking water to the natives.

Because the incentives are all wrong, the tribes get more money if their water system doesn’t work than if it does. Fix that and the problem will be resolved.
Holy crap I am so sick of hearing about water. How the F did the natives get water before there was a federal government? Canada has more fresh water than the rest of the world combined or close. 3 million frickin lakes. The stuff falls from the sky by itself. We use heavy equipment to build mountains of the stuff during winter. Geez.
Yes, all of that could have been had, but no matter how much the bottom line is, it never would be.
