the date of march 31 is significant, fiscal year end is mar 31 – if you don’t spend your budget you dont get it for next year. most govt’s use the previous years budget as a baseline for next years budget. this is why govt is out of control
I am CAF and this is absolute truth.
of all the government actions, this has to be close to the top of the stupidity scale.. the sad part is the same “principle” applies to governments at every level federal.provincial and municipal. Certainly a similar thing happens in the private sector, but it creates incentives to come in under budget. not really sure why a similar approach would not work in the governments.. maybe they fear the creation of a meritocracy…

Yep, if you don’t spend it you didn’t need it. There are no carry overs and your next budget gets cut. So the incentive is to piss it away and maybe overspend to justify an even larger budget the next year. That’s the nature of government spending, always increase your budget and empire.
That is not their money. I really hope Pollievre is going to put and end to this and other waste as a minimum starting point.
But I’m not gonna hold my breath.
This goes for departments, organizations funded by government too. If you don’t spend (“blow”) your budget this year good luck getting the same or more next year.
F the government as it currently is, municipal, provincial and federal. They’re all jokes.
Municipal governments should deal with clean drinking water and waste, roads/pipes, garbage (only) collection and management, and fire/police…everything else private sector can handle.
Provincial govt – health (needs critical overhaul), trade (minor – get out of the way but advocate), educ (back to basics, reading, writing, arithmetic), sports/arts (minor – nothing trans, provide funding and or advocacy for sports/music/arts to round people out).
Federal – defence (overhaul), trade (advocacy and setting basic rules and standardized regulations, all else F.O.), law and order (with minimal interference of individual rights)
Getting “social justice” and fake woke stuff out of everything is going to be tough because so many people have bought into it.
What the hell is wrong with these people?
The malignant leviathan that is our government will continue to steal the citizenry’s wealth until morality is “rediscovered”.

My issue with this headline is that not only do contracts/orders have to be in place prior to Mar 31., the goods must also be received by Mar. 31 to be valid.
So unless they were sitting in some high-end furniture shop whipping out PO’s on showroom items, I doubt these would pass an audit.
Not that the Lib/NDP really give a s$$t about audits.
This is what happens when criminals rule over a country.
