Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

I wonder if our boy-king Trudeau mused that the fire at Notre Dame was “understandable” like the Canadian arsons.
There is some hope for France yet: it wasn’t converted into a mosque.
Yet.
Steve
They resisted the blandishments of the army of architects who wanted to “modernize” it.
Thank you. This was going to be my comment. Imagine having the gall to suggest anything but an authentic restoration was what the moment called for. Some bastardized “modern” version of ND would have been nothing less than a slap in the face to The Big Man Upstairs himself!
During WW2, did Jews seek refuge in there, and were they turned away as the norm at the time?
I have not had the pleasure of visiting Notre Dame de Paris, but I did visit Notre Dame de Rheims, which is where French monarchs were crowned. Absolutely magnificent. When a colleague joined me in France for that particular work assignment, I told him he had to come see it. He replied, oh, I’ve seen lots of old architecture, won’t be any big deal, but I insisted so off we went. As we approached her, first he went silent, then as we walked about the exterior he kept looking her over, muttering, “holy s—“. A few steps later, same thing. Over and over. It blew him away.
We seem to have completely given up on the notion of constructing such beauty. Too expensive, too hard, nobody cares, blah blah blah. That’s not just a pity it’s a bloody tragedy.
Kudos to the French for so wonderfully restoring one of her masterpieces to the glory it deserves.
I went back and looked at my pictures of Notre Dame from 15 years ago.
This video is amazing compared to then. Very clean and bright. I have not looked at particular comparisons, but it seems not all the stained glass was restored unfortunately.
Absolutely fantastic the job that they did.
just curious, was any specific modernization performed like, oh, one of those fire dampening systems that release a building full of foam?
l worked as an electricians helper from 86 to 98 and during that time we installed a comprehensive alarm system on a church properry in Griimsby ON .
l was told the saving in insurance paid for the upgrade.
they had lots of knob and tube at the time, l suppose all that gor replaced later.
We were all assured by TPTB that the fire was not caused by arson.
While the fire was still raging.
And not one fire inspector had set foot inside the building.
Reopening on the Feastday of the Immaculate Conception, no less! Gaudens gaudébo in Dómino… Notre Dame, protect your Great House!

The quote is from the Introit for the Feastday Mass; “I will greatly rejoice in the Lord”.

What would be more amazing is if the went after the muzztards wo lit it up in the first place.
Fantastic!
