The Israeli finance ministry has been musing recently about limiting cash transactions and possibly criminalizing the holding of gold and silver. As heavily indebted governments like Israel begin to fear a loss of confidence in their ability to service those debts, they will look at measures to prevent citizens from finding a way not to be their creditor. Historically, this would not be the first time that a government barred the financial exit doors in a monetary system.
Watch the entire West start doing that fairly soon. That is step 1 on the way to total social collapse, as forex flees the country, and investment ceases overnight. Hope you have guns, ammo, and a year’s supply of food, water and meds already.

This is a case of self-inflicted effed and if it does not course-correct it’s genocidal policies, it will reach pariah status to the point where even the largesse from it’s diaspora is insufficient to keep it afloat. From a tactics point of view, there are clearly short term victories. However, from a strategy point of view, it costly in the long term, in terms of it funding it’s own campaigns and in terms of being lesser and lesser able to engage financially on a global scale. On top of all that, it is losing it’s relevance in global affairs. It will get the South Africa boycott treatment and will go broke within a decade.

Wars are expensive, very expensive, (which is why I object to Canada paying in any way for Hamas) so governments of any stripe are prone to confiscate the wealth of citizens when the pressure is really on. Some years back, William Bernstein wrote a short, concise book for personal investors titled Deep Risk, which identified the major causes of permanent losses. The only escape from government confiscation he says is not gold or other types of investment but simply to move your money somewhere that the government in question can’t get its hands on it.
