      1. Things have changed over the last few decades. Your examples of great guitar players is a blast from a distant pass. The new guitar gods are far easier to listen to and their music is more interesting, much tastier. I do not include Rock Shredders in my list … that is just noise.

Check the link in the first comment on this page for a sample.

        1. I’ve listened a bit to Matteo M, and he is without a doubt a very very good guitarist, certainly technically (as are many of the so called “rock shredders”).
But there needs to be more than good technique to make something great, like ideas, soul, and beauty (applies to all art forms), which unfortunately sometimes is lacking.

One example: Just came across MM playing Mediterranian Sundance with Al di Meola, which (of course) is good. However, in my view, earlier versions e.g. with Al d M and Paco d L are clearly better even though (perhaps) technically MM is superior.

More tips of great (modern) jazz/any music style guitarists would be welcome!

      2. Speed and shredding isn’t my thing. Melody has to go along with the technical speed … or it does just sound like noise … to paraphrase my father

    1. Don’t laugh, but go look for Buckethead and give him a few spins.
Yeah, I know, his Schtick with the mask and his bucket, but, what a talented and diverse player he is. Not just a shredder.
