“We will indeed experience a third referendum” on sovereignty, declared Parti Quebecois (PQ) leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon on Sunday, as he is convinced of being able to form the next government in 2026.
He suggested this future referendum could very well be that of the last chance because of the “existential threat” from the federal government “against our people.”
Galvanized by the polls which repeatedly placed him in first position, he was cheered on by around 500 party members and observers gathered at the party’s national council in Drummondville.
“Our moment will arrive,” he said, the moment in question being when Quebecers will be able to choose independence after the two previous referendum failures, in 1980 and 1995.
@WBrettWilson – The economic benefits to losing Quebec would be compelling. And they don’t really leave. We just stop over-funding the mudflaps.

As this would require a constitutional amendment to happen, I demand that we get to vote as well.
Such a pity that we would lose so many Liberal politicians from Quebec as well…
Yes, lets let the whole country vote on having Quebec leave – if the rest of Canada is as tired of their blackmail tactics as I am then either let them go, or use the ROC vote to give them the boot.
Of course, if the RoC tried to kick them out they scream bloody murder “oh no, you can’t do that!” It’s all about their gravy train and not losing it and taking more and more and more.
Let them stay and the rest of us vote to leave.
This is the way.
The odds of suitable provincial governments everywhere at the same time are very slim.
Can we define the rest of us to NOT include the GTA and Ottawa?
Well, bye.
AB/Sask. should have a referendum to leave the sinking ship regardless of how the Quebec referendum goes.
We could be out prior to theirs, and the rest of the country’s eyes may be opened to see how great a sinkhole Quebec is without us funding their mediocracy
We don’t want to be the funding mechanism for the remains of tier 2 Canada either. Look how Atlantic Canada have become completely dependent on others, PEI takes 20% of their gov’t funding from outside the province.
Ontario is well on its way to becoming a basket case as is BC unless the BC Conservatives take the next provincial election there (they ARE gaining…)
No, I don’t think the “Clarity Act” applies to us, nor Quebec. Our decision to stay or leave isn’t dependent on other’s hurt feelings. The tier 2 Gov’t of Canada gets to decide which laws and parts of the idiotic constitution of Canada applies or which parts they need to follow, so can AB/Sask. After a few years the SCOC will sober up and can look at it and declare our actions as illegal, and by then we’ll be recognised by 100 other foreign gov’t and the rest of Canada can kiss our butt.
The new gov’t south of us may recognise us in a half hour the same as they did after Israel’s declaration!
We should strike while the Trudeau idiocy is fresh on everyone’s mind, not even wait for the Pierre P. Conservatives to win the next election.
This. Now. Even if by some miracle the CPC pull off a majority if there is an election, it’s just putting off the inevitable.
Au revoir!
Best of luck in your future endeavors. Send us a postcard when you get settled in.
So long, farewell.

Goodbye Quebec and your entitlements, since you never signed our sh2tty constitution anyway.
You can have all the federal bureaucrats too.
l keep pushing for a ratification.
like strike votes. like ALL MANNER OF MAJOR DECISION
the rules being if it passes, ok, rotc is honoured to be 1st to recognize the quebec nation.
ah. aaaah, but if it FAILS YOU HAVE TO STFU FOR THE NEXT 40 F’ING YEARS.
naturally NO ONE is listening to the sensible thorough approach its just manipulations and machinations from here on.
Leave what ?
A country set up and designed by Quebecers in order to cater to Quebecers ?
Thats what they want to leave ?
Okay… bye.
Same bullshit different day.
Vive le Canada libre!
With the Bloc posed to take half of the federal seats and the PQ in power provincially, there may be no better time to unload this liability. With the Quebek veto removed, the Trudeau pre-commie constitution can be turfed in favour of a constitution that favours the citizen over the state. And yes, even the Atlantic provinces would benefit as the suffocating blanket of government reduces to manageable levels.
Quebec would lose the St Lawrence corridor and most of northern Quebec.
I fully support Quebec independence. Just leave already.
Some teenagers never leave the basement.
Quebec is a liability and car theft heaven. Corrupt like russia and moly coddled whiners.
Crappy hockey team, the toilet lids.
They’ll back down as soon as they realize they have to take Trudeau with them.
Your carbon taxes at work.
OK, but only if you take trudeau with you
When Quebec leaves they can take Ottawa with them.
And the take the rest of southern Ontario. And if you can’t break up the set, they can have the whole province. It’s not like Ontario’s been a benefit to confederation lately.
No one seems to be looking at the opinion polls, which do not show the Quebecois supporting independence.
This is the Party Quebecois clicking its heels together and saying “there’s no place like home”. I spent a lot of time in the heart of anti-English Quebec in 2022 and 2023 and the worst thing that happened to me was being corrected on my Tim Horton’s orders. The few conversations on separation were dismissed outright by Quebecers as a ship that sailed. There are quite a few immigrants living and working in rural Quebec now which would make separation even more difficult.
By now, you should know that no one should be looking at “opinion polls” any more because they are mostly propaganda designed to shape opinions.
It would not be the separation of what is now the physical area of Quebec. It would be the partition of that Quebec. The part that was Quebec in 1759, when it was conquered by the Brits, would be the most that could leave.
The St Lawrence corridor and Seaway would also be taken away.
Agree, since it was built by Canada and the U.S. to provide access to the Great Lakes for both domestic and international shipping.
Interesting, you are the only poster who twigged to that.
He is not wrong. The Feds hate the french in Quebec just like they hate the english elsewhere. 100 million people by 2100 plan will completely destroy what remains of our historical cultures. At least Quebec has the guts to attempt separation. When are the AB and SK referendums? Has Moe or Smith proposed referendums yet?
I assume the renewed District of Ungava would remain in Canada. Why would English speaking Indians want anything to do with the racist B-tards in Quebec?
When does the rest of Canada hold a referendum on booting them out?
I look forward to seeing French dropped from both the anthem and cereal boxes.
back in referendum #2 l posited suppose the natives in their huge tracts and reserves and such up and decide THEY want to LEAVE the newly created quebec nation and . . . . . .
rejoin Canaduh, ah, but guess what, A WHOLE LOT BETTER TERMS THIS TIME BOYZ STARTING WITH THE GODDAMN WATER SUPPLY IN E-V-E-R-Y REMOTE SETTLEMENT NOW AND FOREVER.
just thinkin outside the box.
We’ve all seen this before – Every few years they threaten Canada with a good time only to get cold feet.
Just do it.
Is it coincidence that the referendum date is 2026? As the saying goes: “Get while the gett’ns good”. One gets the feeling that La Belle Province thinks it has drained all it can from the rest of Canada and it’s now time to leave. Especially since their co-conspirators will be tossed from power in late 2025 for what could be a very long time and the new incoming Gov’t will possibly be cleaning out bureaucrat enablers. Also, the other less French provinces are now demanding equal treatment, which of course is intolerable to the Eastern Elite. But it could also just be a scheme to elicit election platform promises from the Federal Parties to continue or ramp up the gravy train treatment that Quebec’s been entitled to since confederation. If the bluff is called and Quebec leaves, with their share of debt along with fair repayment of their huge equalization benefits then good riddance. Without Quebec, Canada would have been under predominantly Conservative Gov’ts with much more say going to Western Provinces.
As much as I agree with the sentiments expressed by Marc in Calgary, we here in Ab/Sask are far too stupid to take the logical and obvious step of independence. There are far too many of my fellow citizens who hold on to some kind of sentimental attachment to a “country” that has done nothing but exploited and robbed them since our joining confederation.
The next best thing would be to finally rid ourselves of the amoral parasites in La Belle Province. It is my fervent hope that a grassroots campaign arises, one that I will wholeheartedly support even if it means getting my bank accounts frozen and locked up for something I might say, that says ALLEZ!!!! GO!!! We don’t want you any more. Enough of you!!!
Perhaps that will be the tipping point that finally rids us of them and will help to actually achieve some of the potential this “country” possesses.
PP may well be PM by then and will undoubtedly be blamed by the pearl clutchers of the Laurentian Elite. I, however, hope that he will not acquiesce to the insatiable demands of the parasites.
They can have LOWER CANADA if they go.
(Here is a helpful map in case you’re confused about what that entails: https://www.britannica.com/place/Canada/The-rebellions-of-1837-38)
Rupert’s Land? Off the bloody table!
The rest of Canada should present Quebec with an ultimatum: Quebec must radially reform/re-imagine itself – along less statist, more free-market lines – or it must leave
Who’s with me?
Exactly. It must permit fracking for shale gas, which it has banned, while accepting $12 Billion a year from the fracking in Alberta an Saskatchewan.
Why are we waiting for the French?
The only good thing they ever brought us ,The Guillotine.
“Its our heritage”.
We need to get out before any Quebec vote.
For an Independent West, needs somewhere for the parasites to flee to,if we want a bloodless separation.
