  1. Not to worry … Pete Buttidudegagg is on top of this. And he is pumping as hard as he can.

      1. He DOES prefer his steel girders … vertical.

Am I being prurient and rude? Hardly. He identifies as Queer … and Queers CELEBRATE their sexual proclivities. Queers put it on display, and in your face. Pete is probably getting ‘excited’ by my comments. I’m not. I’m disgusted by his motherhood.

  2. Forty ships locked in port. Now they will be unloaded and their cargo re-routed to other ports by truck. Baltimore is in for some financial pain. And when Pete gets back from holiday…

    1. Realistically, they could clear the channel in a couple days, if they were so inclined…

      /they are no so inclined.

      1. JD, that is correct. The Army Corp of Engineers could get the job done quickly. The goal becomes disruption if that is ignored.

    1. Yes. If you look at the timeline of the incident two tugs had cast off from the MV Dali about 20-30 minutes before she lost power.

I work in this industry. I can guarantee you that this has effectively ended the careers of both harbor pilots, the captain and chief engineer regardless of who is at fault.

The Dali had already been cited in Chile for propulsion deficiencies. Knowing f*cking Maersk like I do, they will find a fall guy for this and my money is on the chief engineer.

      1. It might also result in the collapse of the ship owners… and one or more of their insurance companies.

        1. Possibly not. It’s looking like their re-assurance will be fine.. and the payout might be capped at 3B. https://gcaptain.com/london-insurers-face-billions-in-baltimore-bridge-claims/

Also, interesting Hot Tip, for those of us into maritime law, the payout may be limited because of an old Titanic era law…
          https://gcaptain.com/titanic-era-law-could-cap-shipowner-liability-in-baltimore/

** note: looking like they found two of the bodies of those poor b*stards that were filling in potholes on the bridge when the Dali hit it.

          1. Some recent decisions related to that particular law (46 U.S. Code Chapter 305 – EXONERATION AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY) may effect the “owner’s” claim to limit liability.

“As one court noted, “[a]ll that is needed to deny limitation is that the shipowner, by prior action or inaction set[s] into motion a chain of circumstances which may be a contributing cause even though not the immediate or proximate cause of a casualty.” See Matter of Oil Spill by Amoco Cadiz Off Coast of France, on Mar. 16, 1978, 954 F.2d 1279, 1303 (7th Cir. 1992).”

Supposedly the ship had previous problems, and the company that owns it was involved in at least 3 other incidents since 2018, so they may not escape liability if they are unable to prove that their actions were sufficient after at least 2 deficiencies since construction in 2015

    1. He’ll probably be one of those EXTREME Le Leche’ League whack jobs who breastfeed their kids till age 8 …

      1. was watching a vid yesterday of a lady who is in court in Australia battling with the trans mafia. she mentioned us a Tranada, so we are a real world wide joke now.

  3. Let’s see if Mayor Pete (the Illustrious Trans. Sec.) takes an unscheduled vacation like he did with the dock strike and the Ohio train wreck.

  4. I live in “ the mid-Atlantic region” – south Jersey just outside Philly. Topped off my gas tank day, as prices are steadily rising and who knows how this bridge collapse will affect that. I’m more concerned with this cocoa shortage frankly, as I know I will go completely insane if I won’t be able to get my chocolate fix.

  5. we were in Baltimore about 5 years ago . what a hole. they warned us not to stray more than a block from the waterfront. some cool bar conversions from powerplants and other industrial sites , but you know the wealth is long gone , and a population of chameleon people , you know , they get darker as the sun sets.

    1. It was notable that the road crew consisted of Mexicans, Guatamalans, Hondurans (sorry if I missed any country). You will never see the chameleon people who scream about repression working hard.

      1. And they were “working” like a CalTrans crew … in their pickup truck that sleeps-6. Sorry to speak ill of the dearly departed … but how they could be SO unaware of the oncoming ship … horns blaring, smokestack pumping … suggests they were fast asleep at 1:30 am. Probably all for the best … they never knew what hit them

  6. You know, if this had happened back in 1944, by now, two days later, the shipping channel would be re-opened for business.

  7. allow me to take on the perfect hindsight role esp considering l dont know squat about boat pilots and shipping lanes.
is there any logic to the suggestion bridges of this construction and importance, howcum ‘they’ (the mysterious ubiquitous ‘they’) dont have huge concrete cubes plopped around the bridge pillars so that in the event of collision, the 500 tonnes of rock and concrete take the hit instead of, well watch the vid.
    jist askin’ . . . . .

    1. This bridge did have four huge blockers. The ship turned perfectly to squeeze past. I’m not sure it would have stopped anyway.

      1. The giant power poles that run parallel to the bridge (that I mistakenly thought were “channel markers”) … had MUCH WIDER and more robust “bumper” protection at the two poles nearest the shipping lane. The remainder of the power poles had minimal if any waterline protection. THIS is why I thought those two were channel markers … because they had very WIDE and massive protection at the waterline. And that was just for the power poles. I would expect the bridge abutment had at least as robust bumper protection

  8. OK – There is a bridge in the water and it has got to be removed fast.

If this were Florida, Governor DeSantis would have it out of there in a few weeks. He would have have every barge, scrap metal dealer, welder and anything else organized pronto with a deadline.

Let’s see how long the Communist Biden Admin, the Communist State of Maryland and the Communist City of Baltimore and Pete Butttplugg take to get things going again.

It will be East Palestine, OH all over again with 1,765 excuses and the blame will be on Trump.

    1. Days… it can be done in days to get the main channel open… that would be the priority.

  9. The crew should have tossed out the anchor and stop the bitch,or so said a maritime expert.
But if the computer was compromised (hacked), who did it, the CIA or the FBI?

    1. They did throw the anchors in the water. Take a look at the size of that SOB; an anchor isn’t going to stop it if it’s moving.

      1. precisely. bobbing up and down middle of a lake? meh.
        in a flowing river? crunch.

  10. As you watch that video, think of this analogy: the bridge is America and the ship is Biden’s gov.

The bridge, just like America’s economy: old, rusty, hanging by a thread.

The ship, just like FJB’s gov: bloated, no power, rudderless.

    1. Look on the bright side! The replacement bridge will be constructed with cheap Chinese steel! And it will have to be replaced again in 10 years. Never-ending jobs for the locals.

      1. and on the Belt and Road Initiative no doubt .. New Owners.. Joes Bosses.
        no

  11. Yup, theories abound now. Cyber attack. Computer was hacked.
Of course, Who were the hackers is next question.

  12. Baltimore was one of the world’s great cities. Home to a lot of America’s history. My favorite is the location of America’s first railroad and the B&O RR museum.
Inner Harbor was a great place to visit not that long ago. Now I won’t go anywhere near it and a lot of America’s history will become inaccessible and blackwashed into oblivion.

    1. Everything I know about Baltimore, I learned from The Wire. Which killed any further interest in the place … I can always drive to Oakland if I wanna get a cap in my ass

    2. “Baltimore was one of the world’s great cities.”…. and then the Pelosi’s ruined it.

    1. Why? they checked their handlers for all their “Known Wolves” and they were accounted for…

    2. FBI? probably just checked to see if any known republicans were in the area. Only white male republicans can be terrorists.

  13. My working theory … Russia, Russia, Russian agents focused a massive EMP at the ship and killed its electronics. Putin did it … and Biden will start Nuking the Kremlin. Because nothing says “re-election” quite like a nuclear conflict …

    1. Kenji – obviously it was Trump, Trump Trump! Deregulation. Of course it will take them a couple of days to figure out who best to blame

  14. I worked in Baltimore for 35 years a mile from the FSK bridge, it was a looming landmark on the horizon. Most of our shipping was out of Norfolk and Long Beach, but I’m sure most of our chemical raw materials passed over the bridge. The two alternate routes on the east side of Baltimore are tunnels which are limited in the cargo allowed, and are already traffic nightmares. Glad I don’t work or live there anymore.

  15. a new theory on the stalled ship. dirty fuel.

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/ar-BB1kEfs8

Merchant ships, the report states, then effectively function as incinerators for the refining industry. Inspectors have found bunker fuel contaminated with “used motor oil and by-products from the manufacture of plastics, rubber, cosmetics, fertilizers, and even paper goods.”
