I recommend we hire several regiments from the People’s army of our good friend and ally, China. They probably have a couple of hundred thousand troops to spare with 2.035 million active members, and our PM DOES admire them more than any other country.

No, you don’t have to be born here, or a citizen yet. If you have permanent residence you are probably on the path of qualifying for citizenship.
As the article states, security screening tends to take longer than for Canadians who have lived here all their lives. Some people will never pass, (and most of those shouldn’t.) It is certainly not impossible for an immigrant to develop a genuine loyalty to Canada than some who are born and raised here (e.g. some prime ministers have set the bar pretty low.)

In olden Egypt and Turkey, they enlisted eastern Europeans, eventually, those took over the government. Why get paid a salary when you can have all the money?

With the info from Stats Canada saying currently around 50% of the population is first generation immigrants and the ‘woke’ crowd pushing for diversity in the CAF, we really have no choice but to let landed immigrants enlist if they want to, in order to do the job we are required to do. That the security screening has only let 77 enroll from the 21,472 applicants since this was opened back in 2022, tells me the security screening is doing it’s job.
Suspect that the feds will try to change the security screening so that more landed immigrants can enlist. This would be a mistake. Should drop the diversity requirements first before messing with security screening. As someone with over 37 years in, I have seen a number of changes in the CAF, but this is the one that may have the biggest impact.
Having said that, the quality of the immigrants that have enrolled match any naturally born Canadians, with their love of the country and desire to help defended it. And I imagine any landed immigrant that passes the security screening will be the same.

Where have you been all these years? Of course you don’t have to be a Canadian citizen. And the same goes for the United States. About 30,000 Canadians fought in Vietnam as members of the US armed forces. Thousands of Canadians and Americans both fought as members of the British armed forces in WW2.
Back in the 70’s I was stationed in Calgary, one of the other soldiers was a German who had come to Canada and enlisted in the Army. So the policy was in place at least back then.
Letting foreign nationals enlist existed long before WW2. Foreign soldiers were coming from the United States in WW1.
There’s nothing new here. National armies have been accepting foreign nationals as recruits throughout history. In the case of France in the 18th century, one of its best generals was a foreigner Maurice de Saxe. He was one of the few French commanders who managed to thoroughly smash a British army in Europe in the Warof the Austrian Succession in 1745. More than half of the Prussian army of Frederick the Great in the Seven Years War were non-Prussians. Much of the British army in the American Revolution were German mercenaries.
If the wogs want to be in the army let them. People like me have been told we’re not wanted, so the country can go f#$_ itself. Who’s going to invade and treat me worse than my own government does?

In their favor, it seems to me that the ones who enlist because of fast-tracking really are interested in becoming Canadians. That can’t be all bad.
The Canadian armed forces have had a massive shortage of new recruits every year for at least the last two decades. Every year, they fall short of their annual target. The Forces do slightly better at recruiting in the maritime provinces, but the numbers are always way below what’s needed. This applies to all branches – army, navy and air force. And this is despite the CAF paying up to 100% of university tuition.
They shouldn’t have discriminated against white men, they’ve been doing it for 40 years. Way back in the dark ages when I was a maintenance platoon commander half the weapons techs were women, because they had a policy of not taking men. The army can go to hell for all I care. They built the shit organization they are, if they don’t like it maybe try not being idiots.
Let’s get real: how many of those who enlisted in WW I were native-born Canadians? Grandad wasn’t; he was an immigrant from England, and he wasn’t the only Brit joined up. Come WW II, a fair few Americans came north to join the fight before the Americans weighed in after Pearl Harbour. It’s not necessarily the citizenship that counts; it’s the commitment to the country and the cause.
LOLs.. Most migrants want high paying professional jobs.. The rest had a mule and a acre of land back home.. For the most part they didn’t come to Canada to populate the tundra or catch a bullet in a Canadian forces..
Poor white people join the army for a education.. Poor brown people get government grants and loans.. If you want more non whites then drop them off out in the middle of nowhere and give them nothing..
Really what we have is a government tripping over its own policies..
