    1. Where has Pierre been been on this issue the past 24 hours? Hammering the government on this is low hanging fruit.

  1. Since this will in no way prevent provinces and municipalities from building new roads, I think that this is merely a ploy to divert attention from the ArriveCAN scandal. Look, squirrel!!

    1. Not true. Ontario wants to construct a provincial highway and the feds blocking it. The no more pipelines act is flexible enough to be a no more roads act.
“The latest stumbling block is Guilbeault’s insistence on a federal environmental assessment under the Impact Assessment Act — the same one that was struck down by the Supreme Court on appeal from Alberta.”

      1. Be like Alberta and Saskatchewan and Quebec, ignore Ottawa. The federal government and their journalists will throw a hissy fit but who cares. Ontario can pass their own version of the Alberta Sovereignty Act or Saskatchewan First Act which forces the Trudeau Liberal-NDP government to take the province to court and it takes many years to be heard by the Supreme Court.

        Become ungovernable.

          1. Ha. Might be worth Ford’s while to stop being Trudeau’s doormat. I just got my saskenergy heating bill a few days ago. We saved $61this month because the Trudeau Liberal-NDP carbon tax was shown and then subtracted from the bill.

  2. When will enough Canadians wake up to the fact that the Liberals are nothing more than petty tyrants. What is this claim of “Our Government”, what is wrong with Canadians that don’t recognize that they have lost their Autonomy. How much more can we lose with politicians like this in office?

  3. One can prove the #Libranos correct on this by simply blocking a lane on any multiple lane road or highway.
Deerfoot Trail here in Cowtown is a great example of this, and it’s especially helpful when someone is pulled over by the police and they purposely park on the left side of their lane instead of 1/2 ways parking on the gravel bit on the far right, so the police park halfway into the remaining lane and further reducing the available lanes to near to 80% of one lane on the far left.

In this way, we can park on Deerfoot Trail for an hour, taking in the wonder of that giant blue circle structure on the north end of the city, and which some refer to as “art”. When driving resumes to the 5-8 kph crawl typical at 3-5pm this helps conserve gasoline too. The 100kmph signs are suggested maximums, and not anything to actually strive for.

On the Trans Canada Highway near to the Manitoba-Ontario border, having only 1 lane to decide which to drive on will help enormously when confronted with a moose, or someone pulled over to pee in that 2 hours stretch.

Nobody “needs” two lanes to drive on.

There are no bike lanes on Deerfoot Trail yet, I think maybe our illustrious Mayor Goiter or however it’s spelt could run on this in the next election. Take the signs down which say, “No slow moving vehicles” and you’ll be half ways there.

Bike lanes for Deerfoot Trail. There, I said it.
    You can ride, we’ll decide…

    ya-hoo

  4. And Then Guilbeault flys to COP 28! If there was any credibility in what he was saying he would refuse to fly!!

    1. Put forth a private members bill “Henceforth, due to complaints of the ministers of the crown that too much money is being spent on transportation that is against there religious conviction that transportation is destroying the world; no minister or member of government may travel by airplane, and must be restricted to travel by “active transportation methods” until the next election. Anyone violating this law will be subjected to 1 year of incarceration or $10,000 fine on summary conviction, or 5 years incarceration and/or $100,000 fine, upon conviction after indictment.”

/never pass, but one can dream

      1. But you have hit the nub of the matter, JD. These people do think transport, AKA movement, is destroying the planet. Or, to be more accurate, YOUR transport, not theirs, of course. They have Holy Dispensation from God, dontcha know, because they are on the side of a righteous cause and you are scum who will destroy their planet.

    2. He would walk because he thinks he is Jesus and can walk across the Atlantic (snigger).

  5. They will provide funding for “active transportation” like sidewalks and bike lanes to nowhere, while they prepare everyone to take part in “15 minute cities” aka “concentration camps”.

  6. It’s absolutely 150% a distraction from their corruption.

They do it every single time!

Scandals and corruption are kind of distant to the average person. But if you make an announcement that will get people and the media upset about something that they are bothered by, then you have done your job and will get rewarded by dear leader.

That environment minister is just a puppet distraction so people don’t criticize jt . Breckinridge will talk about it for a couple hours today and ArriveScam will be gone.

  7. Plus walking provides an excellent opportunity to gather crickets for supper.

“Honey, we’re having cricket tartare tonight since our cooking energy allowance ran out.”

  8. Notice how easily the green zealot and sociopath embraces authoritarianism. Green theocracy means the cause is of such virtue that “might is right” and the Eloi are generally below a level of consciousness that they question the agenda and think instead its all good because, you know, “green”. Guilbeault is Quebec’s ambassador to the rest of Canada. He’s their way of say F.U.

    1. It’s called Righteous Cause Dementia. All such diseased people whould be treated humanel and led to recovery by explaining to them the history of the planet and Savonarola in Florence.

  9. Maybe roads are like Tim Horton’s franchises in Thunder Bay. No matter how many they build, they are all crowded. It’s a mystery how it works.

  10. isn’t maintaining infrastructure, building roads, and ensuring the health and security of in citizens the primary reason for governments?

    1. Well, no. The primary role of go vernment is to stay out of the way. It does, however, perform necessary functions for a functioning society: Maintenance of the laws, including those of contract and property and otherwise to leave the people in Liberty to deal with issues as they choose. Thomas Paine had it right, Government is a necessary evil, therefore its ourvuew should be constrained,

    2. That once was the case in the US but socialists have wet dreams about changing that. In Canada the role of government is to be a substitute king and lord over its minion tax revenue suppliers. Canadian socialists just want to replace fake royalty with their version of fake democracy. They want to seem to be benign rulers

  11. I’m surprised he’s arrogant/stupid enough to say the quiet part out loud. Battery powered cars are just a bait and switch. the common folk were never supposed to have free travel at all. Guilbeault is a true believer- a useful idiot. the real people behind the hotcoldwetdry scam are actually engaged in a class war against the middle class. Neo-feudalism is the real goal.

    1. I wonder if the true EV believers feel cheated, or proud of being road kill for the cause?

  12. Rob Breckinridge deserves credit for not giving too much time to the idiots distractions and still talking about the wasted money during the Covid scam

  13. Well, to be fair, there’s only so much stupid you can pack into a day . . . sorry, I forgot who I was talking about.

  14. You won’t spend on roads because you’re flat broke and busted, you wee poison dwarf.

  15. Even after an additional 1million plus “migrants” enter Canada within a year? No wonder Torontonians are going mad with the traffic.

  16. Officially opened in 1962 the Trans-Canada Highway has not kept pace with a developed country, that is a fact. In many areas it is sorely inadequate for present day transport, that is also a fact. Any politician that disputes these facts is an absolute moron, anyone that votes for these politicians is beyond redemption. To build a successful society you need basically a source of cheap, dependable energy and an educated populace. The Liberals in Canada are ensuring our extinction by ignoring those two fundamentals. They are ensuring a natural regression in this country back to the period before ‘colonization’. I’d bet the mortgage that the 400 years of ‘colonization’ will be destroyed in 50 if the Liberals have their way. No highways, no trucks, no tractors, no imports, no exports, back to the good old days when the Indigenous Peoples trod the game trails in their deerskin leggings with their stone-age tools and weapons.

    1. Shut down the rail and highway bridges at Nipigon, On., and western Canada’s independence begins!

    2. ive gone south onto the US interstate for years when travelling east west across soviet clusterfukastan , faster and cheaper even at the exchange rate

    3. Antenor, glad you brought up that national embarrassment, our pretend “national highway” the #1.
Pollievre should announce that if he miraculously survives to win, despite the planned Liebrano mail-in-ballot-fraud coup, he will twin the #1 from coast to coast as a symbol of national unity
      (blegh!)
Well, he is a fed, so it should fit his perspective.
2 or3,000 semi’s per day? Something like that, plus local traffic, plus all the tourists in the summer
We need another Flying Phil Gaglardi, not this fool eastern ecofascist parasite.
Too many dead year after year after year on that 2 lane goat trail. Fix it!

  17. Geedolt’s three-pronged strategy was: gaslighting the gullible; trolling the sensible; and distracting from the ArriveScam scam.

    1. No potholes, maybe. But it might come as a surprise how many aluminum roofing nails will make their way onto those restricted lanes. Mischief is important.

  18. Just not selling it right.. The green revolutionary army will be able to deploy quickly on nice new road..

  19. So, by this reasoning the truckers parked in Ottawa were helping to clear up traffic. No? Then he is full of it.

  20. This is a brilliant decision by Lecturing Steve, the man who knows so much…that ain’t so.
If the Feds are no longer going to spend on highways and infrastructure, this is good news.
First the graft and incompetence will go way down.
    SNC will starve.
    And best of all,
All fuel, highway and infrastructure taxes are no longer needed.
    You Go Gang Green.

    1. They can double or triple the fuel taxes, John.

If nobody is going nowhere no way no how, fuel tax revenue will be negligent regardless of the tax rate.

Oh wait. Silly me. There will be a Staying At Home Tax to make up the lost revenue.

  21. Guilbeault gave himself away when he talked about transitioning away from car ownership. That’s what this has always been about. His scheme to force all new vehicle sales to be EV’s was never intended to be sustainable or successful. He just wants you out of your car.

People with cars can move when and where they like. They can leave a jurisdiction if they like, or change careers with ease. Worse yet, people with cars can show up anywhere at all and take part in protests. The Liberals don’t like this at all.

    1. EVs rusting beside cracked asphalt and concrete, because the electric tow trucks no longer can be charged, because well, fossil fuels are needed to build the infrastructure to charge them, and there is no way to move the fossil fuels needed.
