The professional association of doctors recommended everyone who refused the jab be sent to a psychiatrist for medication and therapy. Having seen several family members living through many months of severe pain as they died from cancer, medical assistance in dying has definite benefits.

But when it was first introduced, I was against it. I said it was the thin edge of the wedge, it wouldn’t be long before it was expanded, and then done without consent. So far I’m 100% on that prediction. “Consent” will eventually come from relatives, your doctor or even government social workers.
As long as the government is run by lefties, it will be expanded further “for the good of society”. In time I expect that elder citizens will be allowed a certain amount of government funds (government pensions, medical and pharmalogical care etc). After that they’ll be on their own, if they don’t have the funds they’ll have two choices, suffer-starve-be evicted, or MAID.

Look up Kevin Hines and read his story of his experience and the research that’s been done of those who tried suicide and lived. In every case, the second they stepped past that point of no return, they suddenly understood the gravity of their choice and regretted it. It speaks to a side of the argument that none of us can understand unless we’ve been there. Simply going to sleep may sound like a fine alternative but if you don’t know what’s on the other side, why would you go there blindly. Just believing a lie doesn’t make it true

There was a rational argument for maid in extremely rare cases when death was imminent and pain could not be managed. These cases would extremely rare. It was also totally predictable those criteria would be quickly tossed. And here we are, accelerating down a steep slope a very short distance from a cliff.
There was no rational argument for MAiD, ever. If one is in extreme pain, and terminal, one is often prescribed morphine. If one wants to check out, just take the entire bottle at once, chased down with some booze.

A proper state would not be involved in the business of summer jobs. A proper state would not discriminate against certain citizens based on ideology. A proper state should not be involved in health care, let alone a programme involving “medically assisted suicide”. People own their own lives and should be free to end them unless unfit to make decisions and under the care of others. Doctors have “unofficially” assisted suicide for a long time if you consider just (the example of) the use of a few extra milligrams of morphine on terminal and suffering patients given the relief of “riding the dragon” on the way out.
It’s one thing for an angel of mercy to help some poor soul, dying in agony, by shortening the process by upping the dosage but outright assisting in suicide because someone is depressed or just having a rough time is quite another.
Just like anything else the “government” gets involved with, it states it’s getting involved to control the parts that require “management”, but just like a solitary little grey cloud on the horizon, it gradually changes into a Cat 5 hurricane of control, with confusion, bureaucracy, and expense.
