The stupid rich people market runs dry. (sorry, forgot the link!)
As inventories of electric cars grow faster than sales, car dealers are feeling increasingly discouraged by their prospects, according to a quarterly survey from Cox Automotive, the parent company of Kelley Blue Book. A dealer sentiment index derived from the survey shows sales expectations haven’t been lower since at least 2021, when Cox first started asking about EVs. […]
“We thought we could build a million of them and sell them,” Paul LaRochelle, vice president at Sheehy Auto Stores, a chain of dealerships in the Washington D.C. area, told the Journal.
But his dealerships have a six- to 12-month supply of electric vehicles, and only a month’s worth of gasoline-powered cars and trucks.
Oh no! Canada faces declining EV interest, report shows, despite push to boost sales

Goes to show, STOOPID is everywhere.
In EV’s….? Its Rampant.
2+ hr lineups in Hope, BC…only to get access then another 2 hrs to charge.
“Ford Motor Co. is decreasing production of its all-electric F-150 Lightning pickup…
Automotive News cited a supplier memo that states the automaker will produce 1,600 vehicles per week. The plant had planned production for double that…”
https://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/ford/2023/12/11/ford-decreasing-f-150-lightning-production-dearborn/71884587007/
“The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that a UAW official said in a memo that Ford was considering canceling a shift citing slowing demand and indicated that the company was looking to build more gasoline-powered trucks instead. “It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that our sales for the Lightning have tanked,” the memo said, according to the newspaper.”
The dummies only lost about 4.5 billion on that exercise in futility.
I just helped my son buy his first car. Dealers had almost zero inventory on the lot of ICE cars, crossovers and SUVs. They were selling cars that were due to be delivered anywhere from 1 to 6 months out. Most test drives were in used cars from previous model years. But, if you want electric, there are dozens on the lot. Take your pick. They also had a ton of pick-ups.
Most dealers also have to take what the manufacturer will send them. No more ordering your own inventory. The car salesmen were disgruntled to say the least. There’s barely enough deliveries for them to make a living.
That was my experience exactly. Except new car delivery was about a 9-month wait. And from what I understand, this kind of delay is supposed to on for a couple of years yet.
EVs? No one wants them.
But this is how communism works. Government dictates what the public can and cannot have. Manufacturers have to follow that policy. But people don’t want electric cars because they are too expensive and not as capable as gasoline powered ones.
Don’t worry, the government will fix it by passing a new law or print new money. Because that’s how communism works.
Or fascism. Same shit.
Communism and fascism: Just two the two faces of the same worthless Marxist coin.
20 some years ago, while guiding American hunters, I was asked to explain what the Americans perceived to be some strange attitudes and behaviour they saw in Canadians. “Most Canadians are communists, although they don’t realize it”, I said. “Ohhhhhh, that does explain a lot of it….” That was before America ran down the same rabbit hole we Canucks had descended into years prior. It’s gotten worse since. Most Canadians still don’t realize they’re commies, but at least they now proudly proclaim to be socialists.
My wife is a congenital Dipper. She will not discuss politics with me because she does not want to defend against any devil’s advocate style questioning. She especially does not like it when I refer to lefties as commies. But she keeps me because I can fix most things that break down.
I hope some common sense and reality is starting to break into the realm of politicians who suckhole to the green vote. Probably not, I expect they’ll just try to tax us out of our cars.
The guvvermint is trying to force everyone to convert to electric from natural gas, putting a huge load on the grid, and they want us to drive all electric vehicles by 2035, adding even more to the grid. Of course the proverbial elephant is that they calculate there will be about 20% of the population able to afford the EV’s, so we peasants will have to take public transit even in towns that don’t have that service.
Another of the elephant herd is a move to force us all to move to cities where we can use public transit, which is incapable of carrying the load we have now let alone thousands more rural evacuees and former ICE car owners.
In parliaments everywhere I imagine our beloved leaders praying for another pandemic to keep the peasants from wising up.
The short anwer is that Justatwit and the Liberals are on the verge of a complete election disaster whenever the next election is called. Even the slave media he controls doesn’t try to hid the enormity of how much the federal Liberals are loathed.
I hope you are right, but fear you are wrong.
Assuming another election is ever called… We don’t know what the turd has up his sleeve next to deprive the population of it’s wealth… taxing all of us into poverty.
Here’s a possible scenario. An “emergency” has been declared (new pandemic or climate change… take your pick), and the twit declares another EA, giving him the authority to cancel an upcoming election. Zelensky did it, and it seems to be working out for him. The turd, no doubt is watching… taking notes.
Those of us that are critical thinkers, already realize the inequity and impossibility of banning new ICE vehicles by 2035, what with living in the province of Being Communist. Between all the faults and problems with EVs, direct and indirect, there is a shitshow coming at that time, or slightly before.
-The grid can’t handle the increased load.
-The plebes will realize they have to fully pay for the charge, which so far has been mostly free.
-The extravagant cost of said EVs.
-The lack of charging facilities.
-The overload on transit for the poor and middow clath.
-The stick vs carrot approach to continued ICE owners, RE: being excessively taxed for gasoline.
-The Cubanization of ICE ownership.
As typical with human behaviour, the vast majority will not respond or realize the travesty until it is a crisis, in their face, and will then demand being treated ‘fairly’. SMH.
I fear if Trudeau isn’t tossed out at the next opportunity, these drastic events, and worse, will come to fruition, as ideologues do not change direction, complaints be damned. Still, PP has to also turn all things around 180 degrees that the Trudopian ideologues have enacted. ANYONE WANT TO HOLD THEIR BREATH?
Then of course there’s the socialist NDP dirtbags in BC. Good luck with them changing direction. They’re going to save the world all by themselves, dontcha know?
One more thing.
– Fuel tax
Fuel tax rates (Alberta)
Right now the fuel tax rate for gasoline is zero, but look for it to jump to about nine cents per litre next month.
If you think the supply imbalance is a mistake, then, you haven’t been paying attention to all the other mistakes being made.
Rush and the late great Neil Peart predicted this back in 1980.

This EV thingy is laughable.
Was there ever a Rich Stupid People market or just the Perceived Exclusivity of Tesla market? Because as the hybrid tech has been commoditized the Prius then lacked the green-tinged halo it once had. It appears history rhymes.
Related, from the Autoextremist (http://www.autoextremist.com/on-the-table1/) : According to a memo obtained by Automotive News, Ford has told its suppliers that it will cut the output of its F-150 Lightning EV pickup in half in 2024, due to “changing market demand.” ICE vehicles will not be affected. How’s that EV thing working out again? -PMD
No back end and inconvenient.. It’s not that they have run out of stupid people.. Its just that it’s not the right tool for the job..
Myself.. 3 working adults and 3 cars at my home.. I work close and drive a small fuel efficient car.. If I full up it can last me a month.. But I usually put in half a tank because I’m also impatient and cheap..
Im looking at a EV like another needy relationship in my life.. A polyamorous relationship with the EV charger at home?.. Or hit the gas pump once a month.. IMO it no contest..
The most reliable electric vehicles in my lifetime were bumper cars at the PNE.
They survived countless crashes without injury, despite missing seatbelts and airbags.
They started up every time, for weeks at a time.
True, the range and speed were limited, but the learning curve made that restriction a bonus rather than a liability.
None were self driving, and they could be easily pushed aside until human drivers were installed.
Slot cars showed how excellent electric motors are for raw acceleration, and despite millions
of crashes never caused drivers more danger than bruises and the odd eye put out.
Fast forward, literally, to the introduction of the ‘Cybertruck’, coupled with the popularity of ram tough pickups and SUV’s, and those heady childhood days will soon be replicable.

Sir John A. faced a similar problem, so there’s that.

“We thought we could build a million of them and sell them,”
That’s all he wanted. Just those two things.
How could you have anything to do with the automotive market and think there was a majority of car buyers that would put up with all the ridiculous limitations and expenses of an ev? They’re a niche vehicle for people that don’t mind plugging them in all the time, have a garage, don’t go on long trips (or have a second gas vehicle), and aren’t worried about burning their house down.
EVs are an IQ test which all EV buyers failed.
Not to worry, Harvard, Penn and MIT are fostering a whole ‘nother generation of stupid rich people.
Government can never have enough stupid rich people. I mean, look at California. $68 billion deficit amassed by…stupid rich people.
My stepson bought a new hybrid this Summer, (I have little influence) and spent ten grand hooking up electrical to his separate garage. When I commented on a possible burn up, his reply was “I’m insured”. I didn’t ask what the damn thing actually cost yet. He lives in Alberta, and is coming home for Christmas, so will ask then.
Not sure if he’s “driving his hybrid”, or flying. He’s a good kid, but he’s also the type that would crawl into a hole and die if his electronic comfort world suffered a meltdown. Interesting times eh!
The stupid is evolved with today’s younger generation. Still stupid, just a different….higher level!
