… And the horse you rode in on: Sask on Guilbeault’s emissions cap

Guilbeault’s latest application of a knee to the neck of the oil and gas industry in Canada:

Canada proposes new methane emissions rules for oil-and-gas sector

To which Saskatchewan responds:

‘A production cap by default’: Sask gov’t reacts to Guilbeault’s proposed methane regulations.

Ever hear about the Output Based Pricing? It’s basically a third form of carbon tax. Well, we’re going to use its proceeds to build reactors.

Saskatchewan to use Output Based Pricing to fund small modular reactor

In related news, in case you missed it Sunday night because I messed up my scheduling, a great column on Saskatchewan telling the feds to FU on the carbon tax on home heating:

Brian Crossman: I am Spartacus! I am Duncan!

  1. Brian…

Seems to me the Feds are truly trying to Drive us (Ab-Sask), out of Confederation.
I for one would have ZERO PRoblem with that.

    NONE.

    1. I 100% agree, and now is the perfect time to leave. The Liberals won’t attempt to stop us based on the fact that if Sask & Ab leaves the Conservatives will lose a guaranteed voter base and never obtain power, if however we wait till the next election and by some act of god the Conservatives manage a win, the we will be hooped again, as they will shuffle some table scraps of funding in our direction. But make no mistake the Conservatives will only hold power for 2 terms and the 2nd term will be a minority term.
I am a Smith supporter, but I’m beginning to lose faith in her. Yes she is pushing back against Ottawa and that is great, but she is ignoring the need for nucular energy that should have been started 6 months ago. I believe she’s making the same mistake that the previous premier made, and that mistake was counting on a federal win for the Conservatives with no Plan B.
As long as the Liberals have a federal party Sask & Ab need to leave what’s left of Canada.

  2. I hope Alta/Sask DOES leave Confederation, because that means sooner or later BC will do the same.

It’s rather like the silliness of Daylight Savings. (Boy do I envy Sask for that!) All it would take is ONE jurisdiction to make the move, and the others would follow. Say Washington State did it, or BC, or Alberta… I believe I saw a US politician say that they wouldn’t make the move without others making it also, but it has to start somewhere.

Some leader, somewhere, has to say “Enough of this shit.”

  3. The leader of GB, Sunack has reversed their position on energy, he said that they will not sacrifice their lifestyle for supposed climate controlling curtailment of fossil fuel use. This realistic position will have to be adopted by many more western democracies. The virtue signalling Biden and Trudeau are enjoying their last days in control. Guilbault running off making promises he can’t keep is the height of hubris. Canada because of hydro is closer to being net zero than any other western democracy.
Thank God for Smith and Moe they give us hope. This from a Quebecer.

  4. Whatever, it’s just more Edicts from Ottawa that Alberta and Saskatchewan will ignore. At this point, Alberta and Saskatchewan don’t care:
    – what the chattering class of experts and journalists in the rest of Canada think.
    – what the Liberal-NDP politicians in Ottawa say and won’t comply with whatever idiotic legislation they pass.

Alberta and Saskatchewan will just do what needs to be done and tune out the climate change zealots.

“The entire Liberal bench sounds like Charlie Brown’s teacher. A whole lotta sound, but nothing’s coherent.”

  5. We have supreme extremists in the government of this country.
Beginning with the idiot in charge and continuing with the convict that is minister in this government and so on and so on. ….
Those two extremists are, in fact, determined to destroy Alberta’s economy while giving billions and billions, as Sagan would say, to Q’bec and Ontario. Remember this, you can patent it if you want, the ventures are going to cost additional billions and eventually fail, check with the pipeline to the west coast.
It would not be a surprise if the old Trudeau had chats with the idiot and told him to destroy Alberta, the old guy run out of time and instructed the idiot to finish it off.
The whole scam is not about the, what the idiot calls ‘pollution’, for they pollute more and more every day than average plebeian does in a year.
Some paid for and corrupt apologists will say that they need to get to places and you don’t.

Smith is doing an excellent job of blowing the fog the climate cult creates and not apologizing.
    Copy that.

  6. Methane is as meaningless as CO2 when it comes to being a climate driver. I wish all these a$$ holes would f o a-d.
Gilbert and Twaddels should go off somewhere and have a bum fest and leave the nation alone.

  7. The Bong brought in a radical fool like gilboo to carry out his agenda. When rachael notley was Premier of Alberta she made a similar move when she hired radical fool tzaporah berman to be an advisor on the Oil Sands Advisory Group. When the political cost of having berman around became more than even red rachael could stand she fired berman.

  8. CH4 aka methane, aka natural gas almost reacts immediately when exposed to the air with oxygen and forms CO2 and water as in CH4 + 2O2= CH2 +2H2O. Very little remains in the atmosphere.

    1. That’s even worse!!! don’t you know the doom molecule of C02 needs to be removed from the atmosphere so that we don’t all explode from a climate emergency as claimed by the anointed high priest of Mann-Made Global Warming, Steven Gullible?

  9. To be fair, 75% methane reduction in Canada would include these steps:
    1) Reduce native ruminant (deer, elk, bison, moose, etc) population by 75%.
    2) Tarp 75% of muskeg and wetlands.
    3) Eliminate 75% of biomass from lakes and rivers.

The climate clowns are a farce.

  10. Hydro electric dams are huge emitters of methane due to the growing/rotting cycles of the plants in them and the rising/falling of the waterline. Plus the ebbs and flows downstream. I’m _very_ interested to see if the current government will start regulating that as well.

  11. I must correct part of “watchers” comment above…
“ The Liberals won’t attempt to stop us based on the fact that if Sask & Ab leaves the Conservatives will lose a guaranteed voter base and never obtain power, ”. Really?
By forgetting history we are bound to repeat it.
Mulroney’s second majority was achieved without needing one seat in western Canada!! Let that sink in please.
It is this fact, and the fact that his government could ignore significant western opinion and interests that led, for example to the CF18 maintenance contract superior bid in Manitoba and award it to a Quebec firm.
When will we take the CON out of confederation.

    1. Grew up in SE British Columbia and well remember parents complaining that – having duly voted – they came home and turned on the radio to hear a declaration of which party was forming the government before their votes had been counted. It was rare, back in the day, that votes west of the Lakehead changed the decision, and they were NOT impressed.
But then, the general attitude in their community was that Canada stopped at the Rockies and BC stopped at Hope. With the advent of the Socred government, the BC boundary was extended to the Okanagan, but it was some time before they realized that Canada stopped at the Lakehead and the in between bits were just “colonies” as far as Ottawa was concerned.
