Lithium in SK: Arizona Lithium moving towards commercialization with pilot plant

Lithium in SK, Part 22: Arizona Lithium is running its pilot plant for Torquay project, elaborates on commercialization plans for 2025.

Whatever you have to say about electric vehicles, the phone or laptop you’re reading this on has a lithium battery. And all the services being used to develop this in Saskatchewan are oilfield services companies.

  1. I will note at this time that despite the billions and billions from Shiny Pony for battery plants in Ontario, Ford and GM are scaling back their battery plant plans, AND admitting they haven’t sold any electrics to speak of.

Nobody wants a Mach-E. Nobody wants a Lightning. And for sure nobody wants whatever GM was selling in the EV space, I can’t even remember the names of those models. Which shows how much marketing muscle they applied. Not much.

Meanwhile, Junior is throwing billions and billions at Volkswagen. I’d have to be superhuman not to think there’s something up there.

  2. News flash from MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA cement truck on fire causes delays on freeway. You will have to look at several news articles to find the key to this story. ELECTRIC TRUCK!

    1. _Electric_ cement truck? I’m sorry, ELECTRIC cement truck?

Which is carrying wet cement, which will set inside the machine if you leave it too long (like if you have to recharge during the day), and gets water sprayed all over it all the time (like all fricking day every day) and must deliver to muddy construction sites, and is run by guys who maybe speak broken English if you’re lucky…

Electric cement truck, eh? Somebody had more money than brains, I’d say.

  3. My understanding is that Lithium “harvesting” is not a problem. You can even obtain Lithium from sea water (not efficiently at present, but newly conceivable technology could secure that). It’s merely an evaporation process where lithium accumulates on the brines. The planet is rich with Lithium potential. Smart oil companies diversified to include Lithium mining into its portfolio.

Currently, over 75% of lithium production comes from Australia, Argentina, and Chile. Catching up to these big three are China, the US and Canada. One of my concerns in such a sharp switch in energy source creates an even bigger cesspool of the Middle East. Their oil based economies will collapse, which will escalate poverty, unrest and even more terrorism in result. Only one country in the Middle East has any significant lithium potential…and unfortunately, it’s Iran.

And, let’s face it. Lithium batteries aren’t a long term item. Sure, they are something used today for a number of purposes. But, something better and more efficient will rise to the top causing the same issues we are currently seeing with the forced negation of oil production.

    “Progress” is confusing and uncertain.

      I disagree.
      Ni-Cd batteries are still made.
Li-ion batteries will continue to have a niche.
