@joe_warmington – British Police have arrested Hockey player Matt Petgrave and charged with him with manslaughter in death of Adam Johnson — developing
Det Ch Supt Becs Horsfall, from South Yorkshire Police, said: “We have been carrying out extensive inquiries to piece together the events which led to the loss of Adam in these unprecedented circumstances.
“We have been speaking to highly specialised experts in their field to assist in our inquiries and continue to work closely with the health and safety department at Sheffield City Council, which is supporting our ongoing investigation.
“Adam’s death has sent shockwaves through many communities, from our local residents here in Sheffield to ice hockey fans across the world.”

I see no point to this unless the guy kicked him with his skates. It doesn’t seem likely.
Buuuut, that’s how England is going these days. Charge him even if there’s video proving it was an accident, then shut down all of hockey for health and safety and ban skates.
Hockey is racist anyway. All those white people enjoying themselves, disgusting!
soy boy phantom
There is video evidence, and it was NO accident
Evidence please.
Especially South Yorkshire Police – the worst of the worst.
No, the government response will be to regulate skate sharpness. Only blunt skates allowed.
Roller skates.
At the time of the “incident”, several who viewed the video of what happened commented that it did not look like it was simply an accident. To them, it looked as if Petgrave deliberately kicked out his leg (with a sharp skate at the end of it). It was also suggested that because Petgrave was a “person of colour”, nothing further would happen. Perhaps surprisingly, something has now happened.

Tim Pool, two weeks ago, suggested it was murder:

It looks like a step up from manslaughter to me… something with intent.
It’s been a long time since I’ve had skates on, but it is what we all grew up with in Regina, and I’ve never seen “that move” before. The video evidence, and the perp’s past should be enough.
Don’t know what happened but still players, who are forced to wear helmets, decline to wear neck guards. Skates are sharp and dangerous.
The video shows a definite kick. No accident. It’s not a race thing unless you make it so. Sure he didn’t mean to kill but definitely not a legal hockey move. Tragic.
I never saw the incident. I thought Johnson was down on the ice, and somehow during the scramble, a skater hit his throat. That was what happened to the last person, a goalie many years ago.
This looks bad, and yes it looks intentional, like he was trying to take out both players at the same time.
I saw the video, several times. It didn’t look intentional. Petgrave was flying thru the air from a bodycheck with another player. It looked like what a person would do to control the landing. Anyone travelling thru the air at between 20 to 30mph instinct would have him trying to manuver his body for the safest landing possible. Look at football players when they are up in the air, they are trying to land safely. And they are travelling at 1/2 the speed of skaters.
Recommend you watch closer.
He was not flying through the air.
He was not checked by another player.
It was intentional…. but…
Because the player will be judged on his skin colour and not his actions he will be acquitted of all responsibility.
Played, and still playing, hockey for 50+ years. The kick was intentional. Surely not meant to kill but definitely to injure. Did not know the player was ‘of colour’ until today and it has no bearing in the discussion. That being said, it’ll be made part of the discussion…

I’ve also looked at it several times and will disagree with you. It was Petgrave who was playing very aggressively, and who initiated the body check on the first player en route to trying to take out take out Johnson. He may have been a bit off balance from the body check he threw, but I’ve never seen a player throw out a kick like that even when falling. Players at that level know – or should know – to try to keep their blades low.
Many years of hockey leave me with a firm conviction that he kicked out intentionally – not an intent to murder, maybe not even an intent to cause bodily harm, but with an intent to hit Johnson with his skate blade.
That skate blade is as sharp and as dangerous as many knives. That makes it what many jurisdictions term a “dangerous instrumentality.”
This brings his action well within “negligent manslaughter” territory.
I’ll bet he is sorry and regretful. So are most people who are convicted of manslaughter.
Take a close look at his right skate. When the third player gets involved, Petgrave’s right skate does a wobble and it looks to me like he lost balance and that is when the left leg goes up and tragedy ensues.
I heard this on the radio earlier. My thoughts: Hm, not sure the British Bobby has a sound grasp of ice hosckey (as they would call it).
Having just seen the video here

I am less inclined to believe the accidental part of “accidentally on purpose”.
Nope, nope, nope…not Giving f**King Google any more info about me than they already have; register to watch a news clip?! Are they serious?
Ty Cobb, ancient American Baseball player, was famous amongst other things, for sliding into home play with a high raised foot, with a very sharp cleats to injure the catcher.
Petgrave? Does his family run a pet cemetery?
