November 1, 2023: Reader Tips

As we enter the second last month of the year, and things start to slow down, for the next 30 days we’re going to present a series of free movies available online. We’ll start things off with Made for Each Other (1939).

Your somewhat newer tips are mightily appreciated.

  1. “In 1951 Bolivia gave refuge to Klaus Barbie (head of the Nazi Gestapo in Lyon France who personally tortured and killed Jews), 4 years after he was sentenced to death for war crimes in abstentia. He became a wealthy Bolivia arms dealer and was appointed lieutenant colonel in the Bolivian army.”

Now, Bolivia has severed diplomatic ties to Israel. It’s strange how sides are taken…
Perhaps Victor Davis Hanson will comment?

  2. One country not paying much attention to will be a HUGE player in the Middle East.

Always riding on that fence of one side or the other…
Since the Israel-Hamas conflict has started, they can now exert the dominating factor to how countries are being ripped apart by alliances and loyalties…definitely not on the US side.
Drone technology is one of its strengths in controlling its regional dominance.

  3. Breaking Global news! Foreign Affairs Canada will not guarantee emergency evacuations from Lebanon!

Actually good news. Hopefully. One recalls the Israel-Hezbollah fight years ago, the Lebonese-“Canadians” living in southern Lebanon whined about not getting free airflights to Canada at a moment’s notice. CTV and CBC News gave the whining leading news of the day. After all the Lebonese expats are “Canadians”.

  4. Only 9 comments?

Too much Halloween candy? Did a few wars end and I didn’t hear about it?

Anyways, turned to Global news for a few seconds. They were reporting 40% of Canadians wouldn’t be getting the new Covid shots or flu shots. A bunch more may have just lied to them but keep in mind the uptake in the US is about 7%.

  5. Janet Yellin’s U.S. Treasury is about to auction off $112-billion in new government bonds, mostly to replace exciting bonds, and this number is $9-billion higher from the previous month:
    https://www.morningstar.com/news/marketwatch/20231101260/us-treasury-to-auction-112-billion-next-week-in-refunding-up-9-billion-from-last-quarter

There has been a spirited discussion in the business media (not at all in the paid-for corporate media) that it may be the case that the bond buyers on the newly auctioned bonds will bid bond prices down, meaning bond yields and market interest rates will go up. Other finance watchers say that the forthcoming recession will reduce interest rates.

This is a core reason why the House Republicans are playing hardball with the spending-crazed Democrats. The country can’t go on borrowing like it has. All of this is lost on the corporate media cartel, who only regurgitate Democratic party talking points. The idea that longer-dated interest rates can rise with all of this borrowing is lost on the corrupt media cartel.

    1. In no way was his leg movement to re-establish balance as some of the idiots are claiming. It was deliberate.

      1. Redpop

I was stunned when I saw the video. I’ve played hockey and had never seen anything like that kick.

  6. So far, a very good day in Reader Tips. Hope it is a return to the good old days before it was invaded by a few bad apples.
