They’re running out of stupid rich people.

The first wave of buyers willing to pay a premium for a battery-powered car has already made the purchase, dealers and executives say, and automakers are now dealing with a more hesitant group, just as a barrage of new EV models are expected to hit dealerships in the coming years.

“The curve isn’t accelerating as quickly as I think a lot of people expected,” said John Lawler, Ford Motor’s chief financial officer at a conference in September, on the EV adoption rate. “We’re seeing it flatten a bit.”

    Which means a new round of regulations on the oil refineries, a new effort to hamstring fossil fuel welling, federal land grabs to put oil pools off limits to private industry, and their back pocket favorite (taxation on combustion engine vehicles based on mileage and location of transport). Ford Motor Company is sending up their flare. The Govt. is assembling their team for the rescue.

    With the current economic picture and war clouds looming as our Dear Leaders demonstrate their utter idiocy, I am sure the average citizen has a few hundred grand just sitting around to spend on such accessories.
    Fix Or Repair Daily seems determined to self destruct,following in the foot steps of all the other Government Subsidized “Car Makers”.
    What better vehicle for uncertain times?
    Than one you can’t trust to get you from A to B without constant monitoring?
    Or an “Electric Truck” with no payload capacity and a range that appears to be One Way?
    Next ,the Insurance Companies will deliver the next beating with a cluestick,that the virtue signallers have coming.

    1. It is ALWAYS about insurance. I remember a quote from Sir Michael Caine years ago in which he said “the reason you no longer hear about some young hotshot actor/actress anymore is because of insurance. They become arrogant, do not show up on set on time or under the influence of drugs/alcohol; do not know their lines or do stupid stuff on social media. They become too much of an insurance risk.”
      Thank goodness for insurance. It is clear-eyed and hard headed. It weeds out the idiots or make bank by charging them a lot of money. I also predict that in the next 10 years, there will be many lawsuits against doctors, parents and gender clinics who encouraged all this transgender madness. Their insurance companies will not honor their policies for malpractice.

      1. I agree entirely. All insurance is based on the inflexible requirements of physics, chemistry and biology. Some insurance companies have collapsed over time, and those failures have always been some combination of inadequate provisions against risks or inadequate premiums against insured risks. This is why you cannot get “reasonable” insurance coverage against flooding in a flood plain.

        In the case of biology, again you are entirely right. The entire animal kingdom is bipolar in gender, as are all of the varieties of vertebrates. There are no exceptions. Claiming otherwise as an act of personal vanity is simply insanity. There may well be lawsuits for malpractise unless governments void the lawsuits by legislation.

          1. Yep, and ships burning unstoppably to the waterline is about as real as it gets. This may be such a severe problem that sooner or later Lloyds of London will be unable to provide coverage. And no shipping business now can survive without full insurance for ship and cargo. It’s got to the point now where container ships in total are losing something like 1000-2000 containers overboard every year. that’s a lot of insurance cost. So I’m just waiting for the day when EVs cannot be shipped at any price.

            Pointing out the insurance risk absurdity of LI batteries was one of the reasons why I was banned from LI. You know it’s serious when the socialists have to suppress any discussion of a topic.

  3. I foresee a whole slew of measures in the near future, for example:

    ULEZ style tactics in large urban areas (I am sure Olivia is salivating at the thought)
    All sorts of ‘environmental’ fees on fuels and engine oil.
    The manufacturers, desperate to sell their sparky cars will restrict the supply of spares for ICE cars (much higher prices and long lead times)
    Significant annual licence fees, based on tailpipe emissions (This already exists in the UK, where they also charge a huge first year licence fee on new cars again based on Tailpipe).

    In fact, all you need to do is note what is happening in the UK, and expect it to come here sooner rather than later.

    1. The federal government would run into the same problem they have now; the provinces control car insurance rates and control municipalities. Alberta and Saskatchewan are unlikely to go along with federal requests to penalizing drivers who have ICE cars because those types of laws would be incredibly unpopular with voters in both cities and rural areas. If it did occur, l suspect there would be many Canadian prairie chapters of bladerunners in Alberta and Saskatchewan cities.

      1. Quite right. The recent Supreme Court ruling means that the feds would simply be opening themselves up to large lawsuits by the provinces to strike down any such law. It really doesn’t much matter what Guilbeault (Gumboots) thinks about the matter.

        1. Apparently, some of the chattering class want to resurrect federal laws called disallowance and reservation to remove provincial objections to the Trudeau liberal-NDP government agendas. Example, Sask’s redent use of the notwithstanding clause.

          “Disallowance and reservation are historical constitutional powers in Canada that act as a mechanism to delay or overrule legislation passed by Parliament or a provincial legislature…Today the powers of disallowance and reservation, while still operative, are generally considered dormant, prompting some debates about whether they have effectively become obsolete through disuse”

          Meanwhile Trudeau MP didn’t immediately refuse a suggestion to “rescind the Natural Resources Transfer Act — legislation passed by the federal government and provinces in 1930 which transferred the administration of natural resources from Ottawa to the four western provinces.” CBC

          I doubt they’d actually use such laws because the provincial reactions would be severe but the fact that they’re even being mentioned is odd.

            But they are running out of time for that sort of nonsense. The current government has less than two years remaining in its mandate.

    1. I seriously doubt that banning ICE vehicles will solve a problem … It will create far more trouble …. Do you think everyone is going to give up their cars, trucks, SUVs … Harleys …. etc without a fight? The millions of gas and oil workers who won’t have jobs and neither will the thousands of auto workers who used to build and assemble Internal combustion engines …. There are no jobs down at the windmill farm.

      We are heading for a poverty stricken chaotic world under current world governments … it’s a sad time in human history. We need a revolution, but the ‘rebels’ are distracted with screens and junk food …

      A distracted, obese population is a compliant population … this in no mistake … we he been groomed for decades to accept peasantry and population reduction.

  5. The fact that these car batteries can light up and burn like the sun. And you can’t put that chemical fire out … if in your garage … say good-bye to your home.

    There is so much wrong with the electric car that one will only end up with remorse over being ripped off paying so much even with large tax-payer subsidies. Now a car with short range, almost useless in cold winters.

    Electric cars will be easily subjected to government control with kill switch tech supplied to police or hacked by anyone who wants to play bumper cars.

    When they are are used … no one will buy a nearly dead battery used car … now will they.

    Meanwhile … EV owners can calculate distance vs state of battery, plot out where to charge up. They may soon realize that there will never be enough ‘affordable’ electricity to keep all these EVs on the road.

    2. No, JWest, you are not wrong. And prospective customers seem to be wise to the scam now. Despite the overall massive shortage of new vehicles, EVs are piling up unsold on various car dealership lots. Right now, it looks like the dealers can’t give them away at any price. And they are spectacularly useless for those 1/3rd of people who live in apartments and cannot charge an EV in any way.

      Your assumption about affordable electricity is entirely right. Electricity is a manufactured product to exacting standards. It will always be far more expensive than refined petroleum or other potential substitutes such as natural gas.

  8. The free market only exists in the underground economy. EV sales are a product of subsidies and coercion. Their manufacturers are part of the fascism that we in the west all enjoy. The regulated economy is under the thumb of social engineers, very incompetent ones under the thumbs of elected Jacobins and Bolsheviks.

  10. Isn’t one of the big problems the used car market in EVs. With ICEs, corporations and higher income people buy/lease new vehicles and everyone else buys those used cars 5+ years later. But with EVs the cost of new batteries and repair are too high for the used market. It’s cheaper and easier keep older ICE vehicles and fix them up than to buy used EV cars. This is also true with new ICE vehicles.

    We could replace every part of our older Chevy truck at a lower cost than buying a new EV or new ICE replacement. Parts aplenty at salvage yards and e-parts stores if you have a popular, common type of vehicle.

    1. I agree. The only way ICE vehicles will be removed from use is by fascist fiat. It’s likely one of the many reasons why our elected Jacobins want to disarm the public – to prevent a fascist legislation inspired Mad Max outcome.

      1. Disarming the public is another unachievable dream. Worldwide, the compliance rate for these laws is less then 30%, iirc. That’s assuming provinces would go along with federal schemes. We already know that provinces like Alberta and Saskatchewan have passed laws making it virtually impossible for federal gun buy backs, etc., to be successful in our provinces.

      1. Note that in both cases, you have to dig a bit to find out that li-ion batteries were the culprit.
        The MSM has been the enemy since before Cronkite, and no doubt ever since its inception. Remember the Pinto? Safer than the Beetle, but howling Karens fueled by MSM lies brought down a reliable and easy to work on car.

  14. Hell, I bought an electric car 30 years ago. It was a Fisher-Price GI Joe Jeep I bought from Sears for my nephew for $89.95 if I remember correctly. I’m not sure the technology has improved that much in the last 30 years, certainly not enough to justify the price increase.

  16. Mazda has just announced a wankel engine vehicle that charges a battery that runs the vehicle. This hybrid requires only 1 litre per 100 km.

    Henry FORD’s wife owned an electric car which she preferred to Henry’s inventions as they were easier to start.

    2. My grandmother drove a 1910 Baker electric around town. The roads out of town were crap and you took a trolly to neighboring towns and cities.

      Then the roads got better and granddad bought a Ford to drive out of their town. When the electric car was sold, that was the last time grandma ever drove. Like many women back when, she couldn’t crank-start the car and the steering was difficult compared to the tiller on the Baker electric, which provided leverage.

      It was a great town car. Heck! If they just pulled up the prints and made exact copies of the 1900s Baker electric, it would be a great solution for many typical situations today. You’d still need an ICE for longer trips or freeways, though.
