We Don’t Need No Flaming Sparky Cars

The wheels of the Clown Bus go bump, bump, bump;

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm on Thursday addressed her now-infamous electric vehicle charging fiasco, saying her “young” staffers showed “poor judgment” when they used a gas-powered car to hoard a spot for Granholm at a crowded public station. …

Granholm’s charging fiasco occurred during the energy secretary’s June 27 drive from South Carolina to Athens, Ga., which included a stop at a public station outside Augusta to recharge Granholm’s electric vehicle fleet. But before Granholm’s arrival, the energy secretary’s advance staff determined the station would not be able to accommodate the caravan, as one charger was broken and others were in use. A Granholm staffer subsequently used a gas-powered car to hoard the station’s only available charger until Granholm’s arrival, prompting one angry family to call the police.

  1. Huge backfire. This needs more publicity, as it will help in the efforts to warn people of the dangers and inconveniences of electric vehicles. Not only are the there the physical and logistical difficulties with regard to charging, but politics and elites’ entitlements will get in your way.

  2. I’m wondering if the exorbitant price for an electric vehicle includes your own “advance team.”

    My point is that they effort here was to show accessibility, convenience, performance and efficiency of electric vehicles. So, why the necessity of an “advance team”? The very application of one negates the purpose of the stunt. Keyword: stunt

  3. This is what you get when you put a non-technical political hack in charge of a technical cabinet position.

  4. This is strictly the usual in government policy botches. It’s part of the job of any and all underlings to take all the shite which would otherwise hit the boss. That’s why they are there. All governments have been doing this for centuries. It seems a fixture of left-wing politicians because it is. Their worthless schemes are the ones most likely to go sideways.

  5. This entire episode shows the absolute entitlement attitude and self righteous ignorant false superiority of our new generation “civil servants.” Any old line staffer would have instead of demands would have quietly made a deal:

    “Nice car and a nice family. Bet you can always use some extra cash. Yes, start changing, but when my boss shows up, you’ll move, and I’ll slip you a twenty (if necessay, a Benjamin), AND I will get your family a photo with her too.”
