A group called Mohawk Mothers has been seeking to delay/block McGill U’s “New Vic” project in Montreal—based on claims of secret burials & unmarked Indigenous graves on the site. Today, @mcgillu’s provost reported that no graves were found, including in areas identified by GPR. (no word yet on whether McGill’s leadership team will be indicted on charges of “denialism”)

The determined Mothers aren’t about to let colonialist concepts like “facts” stop them.

  2. Just like the Edmonton Native TB Camsell Hospital case, paid for by a white ally:

    EDMONTON – Nothing has been found after two more days of searching for unmarked graves at the site of a former “Indian hospital” in central Edmonton.

    Crews completed the last of 34 excavations on the Charles Camsell Hospital grounds Friday – after ground-penetrating radar pointed to “anomalies” under the soil.

    “We’re happy that nothing has been found here to date,” Papaschase Elder Fernie Marty said.

    “No bodies, no bones of any kind, no human remains, so that’s a good thing. Now to find where the bodies did go to. Where did they go?”

    Marty said he still believes there are unmarked graves somewhere in or around Edmonton.

    He bases that off of stories he’s heard about people disappearing and accounts from former staff members he’s spoken to directly about things that happened in the hospital.

    “A lot of evil stuff went on here. This place, in my opinion, should have been burned to the ground or blown up,” he said.

    “You couldn’t give me a place to live here. I wouldn’t live here. Too much horror went on.”

    The hospital building is now being converted to condos, owned by local architect Gene Dub.

    Dub paid more than $200,000 for the search.

    1. There was a plaque at the main entrance dedicating the building upon opening by Judy LaMarsh.
      The taint is deep and aged.

    2. I think the story that people who were sent to hospital and died is outrageous. Obviously deliberately killed. Except for white people, half of whom die in hospitals. Because of white privilege they were trying to save them. Makes sense to me. This hospital operated post war in the middle of a large city. Anyone who died was buried in a cemetery on the taxpayer’s dime, not out back. People apparently don’t know where relatives are buried – order a copy of the frigging death certificate. Ain’t rocket science.

  4. When I hear the words…”Inquistion”…”Nuremburg” and for white folks to be yoinked out of old age homes to justify their decisions as the woman in the video spells out it’s clear to me retribution is what they’re really jonesing for.
    Once that spectacle is done we’ll move on to the money phase.

  15. As a young man my great-uncle worked installing water and sewer services in Rockliffe Park. He said they regularly excavated graves of “little Indian kids”.

    Now that’s second hand, but we can’t discount oral history, right? 😉
