California may soon lift a ban on state-funded travel to states with anti-LGBTQ laws and instead focus on an advertising campaign to bring anti-discrimination messages to red states.
California started banning official travel to states with laws it deemed discriminatory against LGBTQ people in 2017, starting with Kansas, Mississippi, North Carolina and Tennessee. Since then, the list has grown to include a total of 26 states, most of them Republican-led, following a surge of anti-LGBTQ legislation these past few years.
The prohibition has prevented elected officials, state workers and university scholars from traveling to more than half of the country using the state’s money.
This might have something to do with Gavin Newsom running for the White House. He would need to travel and, of course, he would use taxpayers’ money to do so.
Choices of words matter. They both reveal and implant biases.
Those states (mostly red) did NOT pass anti-LGBQ laws.
They passed pro-children, pro-parent, and pro-science laws.
The LGBQ crowd can still do whatever they want in their private lives – but they are to keep their talons off our children. We are not anti-anything. Phrasing it that way plays into the “we are so hard done by” narrative of the alphabet crowd.
We are pro-children. You are not.
Period.

I’m not sure I see what the problem is, if the government of California doesn’t want to spend money to “sent hither swarms of officers to harrass our people” in various states, that’s a good thing right?
