  1. “An arbitrator says the Quebec company should have made an accommodation for the woman’s alcoholism. ”

I totally agree, if by “made an accommodation” they mean “fired her a$$”. “Here, now you have all the free time in the world now to practice your alcoholism.”.

Edit: yeesh, just finished reading the article. Canada, you’re screwed. USA, we’re not too far behind.

  2. De Ja Vu all over again, again

Reasonable Accommodation? Give her a choice, move boxes in a warehouse, or just move along. One of the conditions of employment should be regular breathalyzer tests. If she cannot stay sober, then she is a danger to all her coworkers.

Drunk driving in a 2 ton SUV is dangerous enough, drunks driving a 40 ton semi are downright terrifying.

  3. This poor woman needs to be reassigned to a new position: that of personal chauffeur to the arbitrator who made this incredibly dumb decision.

    1. Frances has it perfectly.
Let the authoritarian idiot suffer the consequences of its idiocy..
      Progressive ideology at its finest.
In todays Kleptocracy I would not be surprised to find this “Arbitrator” having a side hussle on behalf of the Trucking Companies Competition..Or directly working for the Union Thugs who are attempting their extortion on this company.

Saw a lower court order once, sought by the Teamsters, claiming that a privately owned trucking company could not shut their doors…
The Owners told both agencies “F.U” and of course, there was no way to enforce such an idiotic court order..
But that was over 30 years ago, demonstrating how “progressive” the kleptocracy became.
After Dread Covid Theatre,we now know the value of Unemployment Insurance.
Almost as useful as those Charter Rights and Freedoms.
Rule and Regulation by Bureaucrat negates every Natural right or freedom a Freeman might claim.
Kill-Dozerman was ahead of his time?
Or just showing us all “The Way”.?

  4. This is unconscionable. Yes, many large and medium size organizations have in-house programs (or contracted out) to help employees with things like addiction and debt, but it’s at the company’s discretion. Being forced to carry an employee convicted of something like reckless endangerment, never mind wrecking the company’s property, is progressive meddling carried to the absurd.
If the company wants to give here a shot at a probationary warehouse position (with, as has been suggested, regular testing for alcohol) that should be ENTIRELY at their own discretion. Forcing the company to give her a job driving is waaaaay beyond this bureaucrat’s authority.
