  1. And the only reason gas is down that much is because it spiked massively at the start of the Russia/Ukraine war.

    1. Don’t forget that the paste eater has been draining the SPR at an alarming rate. Once that is gone there will nothing left to insulate us from price shocks that are sure to follow.

      1. Not to mention that those salt caverns may not be able to be refilled because of deterioration so new storage areas will have to be sought out and made ready should this current administration actually decide it might be a good idea to have a strategic reserv.

  2. You mean Canada’s inflation rate didn’t actually “tumble” in June??? Quelle surprise!!!

The fact that numerous media outlets employed the word “tumble” (I smelled a rat when I first saw it!) is a dead giveaway that this is the particular narrative/soundbite that Justin & Co.’s coterie of fart-catchers and foreskin-cleaners wanted to push, and their dutiful spear-carriers in the MSM were only too happy to oblige.

  3. If gasoline prices rise, in absolute terms or relative to year over year/month over month then the inflation rate will rise.

Note: the US petroleum inventory reports had one of the biggest upwards adjustments on record this week but still showed a draw. Theres a pattern of upwards adjustments that make inventories look rosy and keeps prices down. Form your own thoughts and opinions on that.

  4. They forgot heat and power.
This time last year I paid around an average of $68 per month, give or take for power.
This year my power bill has been steadily creeping up month per month. This month it’s $138.
I have not changed my power habits.

  5. I don’t know where StatsCanofCrap is getting its numbers, but it is not correct.

      1. On the other hand, they have time and energy to pursue a client for some odd information about staffing. And apparently we’re stuck with it quarterly. I’m going with the “you phone me and I’ll give you whatever stats you want” route.
Ran into Stats Can a fair few years ago when they were targeting an industry in which some of my clients were involved. Fortunately, for some years, they went after the wrong company so could just send a “not applicable” response. Even when they did zero in on the operating company, I refused to spend more that 15 minutes pulling what data I could find and I would openly say so to the Stat Can rep who would phone me.

  6. Canadians should not worry about this. Our Great Helmsman (aka Supreme Leader, Dear Leader, Eternal Leader, Most Respected Comrade, Supreme Commander) acknowledges our suffering and has appointed a racially-diverse and gender-balanced group of sycophants to support him in bringing unprecedented prosperity to all.

“Bringing in fresh energy with new members and new challenges was important for our economic team in particular,” Trudeau told reporters after the shuffle. “We’re facing significant economic challenges – housing, the cost of living, inflation and interest rates.”

    1. If you’ve been eyeing a job with the Government of Canada then you’re in luck. The federal government is currently looking to fill several roles across the country and they all pay well over $100,000 a year.

With positions available in several departments including Financial Institutions Canada, National Resources Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada and the Innovation, Information and Technology branch, to name a few, you can score a pretty sweet job with an even sweeter salary.

You would also be eligible for a slew of benefits. As an employee of the federal government, you’re entitled to a healthcare plan, dental plan, disability insurance, and vacation and leave packages. Please be advised, however, that in exceptional circumstances you might be requested to work.

All roles have specific qualifications including language requirements, post-secondary education and significant experience. So, if you’ve got what the Government of Canada is looking for, then apply away.

Unless you’re a straight-white-cis-gendered male approaching retirement age, then you’re SOL.
Why do you think I’m leaving Ottawa after 25 years of living here?

      2. This recently added benefit will attract exactly the type of person the government is looking for:

“Workers covered by the Public Service Health Care Plan (PSHCP) are entitled to a maximum reimbursement of $75,000, reimbursed at 80 per cent, for “certain gender-affirming procedures not covered by provincial/territorial health plans to help people with their gender affirmation journey” performed in Canada, according to a government web page.”

  7. “You will own nothing and be happy” – not sure why people think they are joking.

  8. Keep stimulating the economy with massive deficits and get inflation? Who would have ever guessed that could happen? I mean other that everyone. The idiot Justin Castreau is doing the same thing his half wit stepfather did 40 years ago.

  9. “Telephone services” costs are down. Every idiot permanently face glued to their screen couldn’t be happier. For many, they don’t have a clue about what, how, or where many of the other items listed are, or come from.

  10. FYI, all of Iowa is listed as Abnormally Dry to Exceptional Drought coming into the critical corn pollination stage. Actually they are probably already there. Iowa is the bell weather state for the supply of corn in the USA. Back in the 90’s when the Mississippi River had prolonged flooding, with concurrent cool weather and rain all over the place, there was a 25 mile wide band, more or less, of corn production that got flooded out. That alone cut the corn crop by 25%. Thank you Mount Pinatubo. We are getting closer to the inflection point on the FU/FO graph

  11. Food from stores is up 9.1%? Apples are 50% higher than they used to be.

  12. Two driving factors for inflation: years of excess liquidity (central bank accommodation) and yearly increasing carbon taxes on all energy.
