Maine has some of the strictest mining and water quality standards in the country, and prohibits digging for metals in open pits larger than three acres. There have not been any active metal mines in the state for decades, and no company has applied for a permit since a particularly strict law passed in 2017. As more companies begin prospecting in Maine and searching for sizable nickel, copper, and silver deposits, towns are beginning to pass their own bans on industrial mining.
Yet they want everything to run on batteries! Oh well, we’ll leave that dirty work to children in Africa.

Maybe we shouldn’t go all hell bent on vehicle batteries and try to develop another source of energy. Hydrogen? Any alternative to the fuels in current use will have some type of environmental impact, whether it’s better or worse than oil remains to be seen.
I think this is proof that the green ideologues want no human activity at all.

Oh, I can write the end of this one. The Federal Government jumps in and applies eminent domain status on the area rich in spodumene. The Freemans don’t get a nickel. The local government gets a cut from the Feds to grease the wheel and puts a moratorium on current limiting regulations.
Rinse, lather, repeat…since you are likely to find spodumene deposits throughout northern New England.

It’s not very far fetched to see them apply the same approach to securing materials to push their toy car agenda.
