National Post- Ottawa, Quebec pull advertising, escalating showdown with Facebook and Instagram
The federal and Quebec governments will stop advertising on Meta-owned platforms Facebook and Instagram as the conflict between the company and Ottawa heats up over legislation that would force web giants to share revenues with news publishers.
Not so fast there buckaroo…
But the Liberal government’s decision does not extend to the party. Liberal Party of Canada spokesperson Parker Lund said in a statement that the party would continue to advertise on Meta-owned platforms. According to the company’s ad library, the party spent nearly $15,000 on over 1,000 ads in the past month.
The government is standing on principle (sic), the Liberal Party has none of those.
It would be nice to browse FB without seeing Government of Canada agitprop, but it looks like I’ll still have to put up with Liberal Party ads. Oh well, I hardly browse FB these days let alone post anything. Almost invariably my posts get taken down for violating “community standards”.

Pablum believes in his legislation that would force YouTwitGooFace to pay news organizations for the mere existence of a link to their articles, what formerly was known as “free advertising” and instead moving to a model that they should pay for creating those links, even if the companies themselves posted those links.

Government of Canada institutions select media based on several factors and media availability.
According to the Government of Canada Website, Selecting media for Government of Canada advertising is supposed to based on the following:

Selection is based on:
campaign objectives
target audience
markets
timelines
budgets”
It does not seem as if any of these criteria when applied can allow the Government to stop advertising on Facebook and Instagram. It’s obvious that pulling advertising is being done for political reasons, which is not allowed under the guidelines. They cannot argue that Meta must pay the lamestream media if the Government itself is excluding Meta as a viable medium.
Facebook doesn’t need Trudopian agitprop or their filthy lucre.
This is something that LIEberals, who believe in their own BS, cannot fathom.

So they left.
Now he insists that they have to pay their ‘fair share ‘ anyway.
They aren’t linking to the Canadian content creators, so ‘fair share’ of what?

What they won’t admit is that Meta and Google were providing eyeballs and exposure for the content creators. So Meta and Google should be charging for those eyeballs, not being bullied into paying for them.
