  1. Pardon me for repeating the story. Back in 2012 we were flying back from France. I struck up a conversation in the de Gaulle airport with an expat American. He had married a French lady quite some time before. I asked him how it was when he arrived in France. He recounted that many French openly chided him on the deplorable race relations of the USA. Then France started importing their own ‘non Caucasians’ from their former colonies. All of a sudden the old stock had a wake up call and found out their attitudes to folks with different levels of pigment were not to be bragged about. The American was no longer reprimanded by his ‘superior’ hosts.

    1. It’s EASY to proclaim your own colorblindness when you live in a monochromatic culture. And let me note it’s the same thing when “statistics” show that “American” life expectancy is less than all their noble Euro-Socialist brethren living in Scandanavia. They should try importing … “the poor, the downtrodden, the human refuge” of the bloody third world.

Not to worry. Obamakkare has changed all that, just as promised. Oops. Nevermind.

  2. 4 days and things have settled down.
people have to go home, eat, sleep, take a shower, and then it’s back out on the street.
Personal experience those french armored personnel carriers will burn like a gas can if punctured in the …..
    Just for show.

    1. Shower? In France? They are world leaders in the perfume industry for a reason.
I am reminded of a story told by a French born anthropologist who told the French ambassador the primary difference between North America and France was that North Americans bought their bread once a week and showered every day.

    2. They won’t be back on the streets or avenues until all the plundered stores are restocked. No point in rioting if there are no trophies to take home.

    1. “Wow they’re far better equipped than Russian conscripts.”

      …who are still winning.

    2. You wanna know from conscripts? Just WAIT till the only people joining the American military are Trans and Queers … and see how fast all those 18yo men who have to fill out selective service registrations … become American conscripts.

  3. A Dutch dairyman once told me he had contemplated moving to France before emigrating to Canada.

He said the tipping point was the attitude of the fwench. He said you could live there for 150 years, integrate yourself into the community, join the military and you’d still be a GD Dutchman.

    1. Substitute “France” with any one of the Atlantic Provinces and your comment would still be on point.
Reminds me of a conversation I had with a Nova Scotian I met while visiting there…he was moving back to Ontario after almost 15 years.
Reason? “You can live here but you’ll always be considered an outsider”.

      1. Actually, you’re right. The specific example I was thinking of was one of my friend moving from the Eastern Townships to Gaspe. He will always be “from away”, even if he married a local and has been working there two decades.

  4. I mentioned this story before. I lived near Minneapolis during the George Floyd riots.

    Overwhelming force works!

George Floyd died on Memorial Day Monday. I knew the riots were going to become out of control when they started rioting LOOTING on Tuesday afternoon in broad daylight at the Midway Target store over 10 miles away from 38 and Chicago. It took four (4!) nights of rioting, looting, injured and dead people and lots of arson before gutless Governor Walz called out enough National Guard to deal with the riots. In those 4 nights, over 600 buildings were burnt out, and thousands of businesses were destroyed. They even overran and burnt out the Minneapolis Third Police Precinct Building, which Mayor Frey’s police leadership bravely abandoned. Don’t worry though, there were PLENTY of Cops and a few hundred National Guard deployed to protect the Government Buildings like the State Capitol, Courthouses, and other important GOVERNMENT Buildings downtown.

It took President Trump threatening to send the Army and Marines after the Friday Night looting and arson (riots Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; 1,2,3,4 nights) to get Walz off his butt. Truthfully he panicked a bit, and finally on Saturday morning he called up EVERYONE in the MN National Guard, all 14,000, every Game Warden, Every Correctional Officer, everyone with a badge he could find in MN. He even got the WI, North and South Dakota Governors to promise their National Guard troops if needed.

What happened on Saturday? Was it a bloodbath? Another Kent State? A bloody Civil War? NO. The riots STOPPED as the rioters were rounded up. They surrounded the large curfew breaking riotous mobs with police and troops, told the mob to STFU!, STFD!, and wait to be arrested. The rioters outside the cordon bravely RAN AWAY! Peacefully.

Protests continued for weeks. During the daytime. Peacefully. Vocally. With lots of news coverage. All watched over by peaceful and respectful Police and National Guard.

Overwhelming force works. Rioters may be stupid. Mobs may be even stupider. But when they are faced with overwhelming force, likelihood of arrest, and overwhelming numbers of police, they will decide being far, far away is suddenly a better option. The riots stop.

You just need an overwhelming force of professional police and National Guard, and the will to use them. Too few? They will be overwhelmed as the rioters loot and burn with no repercussions.

  5. Overwhelming force: “SAN SALVADOR, May 17 (Reuters) – El Salvador has deployed at least 5,000 soldiers and 500 police to surround a town in the northwest of the country in a push to arrest those responsible for the suspected gang killing of a police officer, President Nayib Bukele said on Wednesday.
The officer was killed while on patrol in Nueva Concepcion, some 42 miles (67 km) northwest of the capital on Tuesday in an attack by alleged gang members, security authorities said”:

    1. My first comment when I saw that awhile back was holy shit, here we have a serious potential problem and one mistake and the prisoners take everything. You have a army there who are like minded and there will be no changing them no matter what methods are tried. Temporary submission should not be viewed as success.

  6. The military vehicle says “Gendarmerie”. For the uniligual, this means “police”.
