Budweiser is giving away its beer for free in some stores with new promotions after Dylan Mulvaney backlash wiped almost $16b off parent company Anheuser-Busch’s market value

    1. I stock shelves a few nights a week at a big grocery store in a moderately conservative midwestern town. I do the beer.

The bud light thing is overblown.
Sure, sales dropped a bit. Selling more coors light recently maybe.
Miller lite has always been #1 here by almost double.

But bud light is hardly piling up in the back room.
Prices are down a buck or two, normal summer beer season specials. No free beer here.

The giant summer display of bud and bud light in the shape of a pickup truck needs refilling nightly. People are still buying the stuff. Nothing is going bad in the back room. Nothing has had to be dumped or returned.

  2. And, one more brand to add to the list.

Kinda makes any weak ass apology ring even more hollow…

        1. You are an idiot. The fact they are illegal means they have to go . You are too stupid for words.

          1. “The fact they are illegal means they have to go”

Wrong. That’s just your arbitrary silly preference.

“Today, illegals are a net drain on the pooled resources of the “legals.” That, and a proven predilection to break the law for personal gain, are what the real issues, and complaints, are about.”

Not only wrong, but exactly wrong. Illegals are keeping SS afloat by paying in with no hope of ever getting anything out. Further, they have a lower propensity to crime than non-immigrants.

There’s a simple solution here: just make them legal. Just let them in.

        2. The definition of “illegal alien” means that they are here *ILLEGALLY*, meaning that they have NO RIGHT to be here at all!!!
The implication is direct and straightforward, no matter how much spin you try to put on it.
But leave it to the liberal hive mind to give it a go nonetheless. Truth be damned, says Un(believable)Me.

        3. Illegals want to stay for the same reasons they came, economic opportunities. I can’t blame them for having the gumption to get up and move to where the grass is greener. That’s something more than many whiners around here will do. But, illegals did come illegally. Thus the brand “illegal.” Eighty years ago this would be a non-issue. Today, illegals are a net drain on the pooled resources of the “legals.” That, and a proven predilection to break the law for personal gain, are what the real issues, and complaints, are about.

          1. The solution to this isn’t just to find and deport all the illegal aliens. It is to also eliminate the incentive to enter illegally, by finding, prosecuting, and punishing all those, be they individuals or corporations, who would employ an illegal alien in order to cut their own costs. Shame them publicly, fine them into bankruptcy. Because if the cost of being caught is too high, and the risk of being caught is so high as to be a near certainty, the demand for such labour will be non-existent.

At the same time, legal immigration, and the hiring of both legal immigrants and citizens should be incentivized. Encourage them to come legally, streamline the process where possible, so that red tape doesn’t ruin things for the law-abiding, and ensure that these folks feel welcome.

Of course, good luck getting that past the uniparty, as they’re the ones who get rich off of the current set up, while also signalling their virtue at the same time.

          2. To be clear, your anti-illegal hiring plan is insane, unconstitutional, and would result in bankrupting the entire country.

Just let them in and the ‘problem’ is solved.

      1. Wishful thinking? We’ll see, but in a decade or two, you’ll probably ‘forget’ you ever made such a stupid prediction. You may even deny you said it, but we’ll keep the receipts, just in case.

        1. We’ll see, but in a decade or two, you’ll probably ‘forget’ you ever made such a stupid prediction.

His ass won’t see a decade or two because of the jabs…

  3. Misogynist (right wing) trolls attack BBC Disinformation Journalist Marianna Spring. They are attacking her just because she is setting up undercover Twitter accounts to infiltrate right wing hate groups. They say that is against Twitter’s rules. I am not aware of that rule and I think there is nothing wrong with going undercover to fight rightwing disinformation. The FBI does it all the time!

The worst thing is that Elon Musk has not banned any of her attackers. Twitter has went to Hell under Elon Musk!

      1. You’re right, John Peg. If you talk ‘Southern’, the proper English is done went to Hell.

We have narrowed down Progressive Pat’s location to North of the Mason Dixon Line.

          1. Point proven. Last time I checked Saskatoon was north of the Mason Dixon line

Bummer: Insurers Bowing Out Of U.N. Climate Alliance

    https://www.thepiratescove.us/2023/05/26/bummer-insurers-bowing-out-of-u-n-climate-alliance/

A United Nations-convened climate alliance for insurers suffered at least three more departures on Thursday including the group’s chair, as insurance companies take fright in the face of opposition from U.S. Republican politicians.

At least seven members of the Net-Zero Insurance Alliance (NZIA), which launched in 2021, have now left including five of the eight founding signatories.

  5. I remember the Sunday lineup well. 60 Minutes. Tickticktickticktick: The Sunday Scaries broadcast nationwide in one soundbyte. The Wonderful World of Disney. And then the Sunday Night Mystery Movie. I can still find Columbo on late night cable on occasion.

      1. My wife and I still do. We old fogies still watch Vision TV reruns and sip green tea in the evenings. Before we go to bed at 9 pm. On Friday and Saturday nights we live it up and stay up one hour later. This is our idea of a good time.

          1. I enjoy bourbon and apple juice on Friday nights. I would like to stay up long enough to finish three of them. I’m tired of wasting the last half.

        1. there’s some interesting stuff on cable. I always tune in for live coverage of various calamities or sometimes it’s just on when I’m surfing the net. I’ve always laughed at people who strike a superior pose because they don’t have cable.
I think they’re probably just too cheap, or it isn’t available in the woods. Maybe they find the conflicting messages confusing.
And no, I don’t believe every thing I see on TV, anymore than I believe everything I see here.

          1. It’s just too expensive, I don’t have enough time, and there’s ads! Honestly, after going without TV so long and going back, the TV advertising seems almost dystopian.

          2. Why would I have cable when it’s mainly cbc stuff and their msm left wing commie pinko peers, fwench shit and stupid indian channels? And that’s the feather kinda indian, not the dot kind.

There’s a whole universe of interesting stuff out there that the CRTC doesn’t want me to see.

  6. The Vancouver Port Authority, an entity that is controlled by Transport Canada that is controlled by Justin Trudeau, claims that they can’t afford a Canada Day fireworks display. ”Too expensive” they said.

Here is the federal government of Canada website that provides financial assistance for cultural events.

    https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/services/funding.html

So why is the port authority not applying??

    1. This is actually a good reason to not do fireworks (besides they’re being kinda obnoxious). Not stupid chaff about ‘cultural sensitivities’.

  7. Was stuck in the field near Timmins, Ontario with 3 barrels of jet fuel waiting for the helicopter to land. FM 92.1 from Sudbury was playing with a continuous supply of awesome rock tunes. Then came the news that Ontario’s hydroelectric company is offering people digital cards with “points” if they allow the company to “voluntarily” take control of their “smart” thermostat in order to reduce summer electricity usage. They stressed the program was voluntary and the points could be redeemed for real stuff. Haven’t been able to find an article on it yet.

    1. Aren’t you glad it’s jet fuel and not some thousand foot extension cord to charge some imaginary helo battery.
Being unstuck is nice, love my petro chemicals.

  8. A few days ago in an interview with the trans Target designer, he/she suggested that business had really picked up after the boycott. It felt like wishful thinking to me but good luck anyway to him/her.

Now it seems the designer has been dumped by Target for Satanic messaging in his/her collection of products.

It’s as though no one in retail is paying attention to the consumer. They are so hyper-focused on social media. Well social media works both ways.

    1. No, it’s not well done. It’s utter and complete nonsense from end to end. It’s contradicted entirely by the physics of what actually occurred 1969-1972.

      1. Well,, lots of folks think it is well done, and raises some good questions. People can judge for themselves if they are interested in the topic.

          1. Yup Dave, that’s the one I always point out to the Doubting Thomas’s of this world.
Their reply is it was placed by a robot, yeah sure.

      1. The ‘Republican Crimer Gonna Crime’ song does seem to be overplayed now doesn’t it?

  9. All this talk of woke this or heternormative that, and America’s jails are human rights atrocities that almost no one discusses. People get eaten alive by bed bcs. This apathy towards the carceral state is the starkest way to demonstrate the moral bankruptcy of the right and left today.

    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-65267971

    1. Is Un(believable)Me trying to pass himself off as a mainstream centrist? Has that Overton Window slid that far over to the left?

  10. The debt deal McCarthy worked out is actually shockingly half-decent. There are some good things in there, a few small strikes for fiscal sanity, but man the lack of substantial progress on permitting reform is awful. I would ditch all the cuts for real permitting reform. The silver lining is that the political winds are blowing for PR.

    1. There you have it. I already said (somewhere else) that this deal was yet another GOP cave-in, and ultimately, this will not be good for the US in the long run. They (democrats) even said that there will be no debt ceiling as of 2025.
Now Un(believable)Me just confirmed my worst suspicions by endorsing the deal. Buckle up, people.

      1. The US only gets away with this chicanery because the Dollar is the World Reserve Currency.

We have seen what happens to other countries where they have spent irresponsibly. Argentina. Zimbabwe. Brazil.

It’s just a matter of time, China/BRICS will change the world order. For now, the markets are fixed, manipulated, controlled by US interests, to support the bankrupt dollar as long as possible. Anyone that thinks $31 TRILLION (and growing by Billions) will ever be paid back, is a lunatic. No country in massive debt, like Canaderp, will ever pay back a cent of their massive debts.

Welcome to MMT, Magic Money Theory.

        1. Or what happens to countries when their currency is longer the global reserve. Britain and her Empire. That is the road that America and her vassals (Canada included) are travelling

Those who prattle on about the Modern Monetary Theory will soon discover what the normies already knew, that there is no Magic Money Tree out back. And yes, all that debt will be utterly worthless, which is bad for those who lent, and right after that, bad for those who borrowed.

        2. The situation in those countries is nothing like America. The US still basically has rule of law. Those countries don’t. This could change.

China continues to be its own worst enemy. The capital controls alone kill off the Remninbi’s reserve potential. China has other issues too. If they went Full Friedman and ended those controls and other bad policies, I think the USD would be in some trouble. If they also went Full Hayek and implemented a gold standard (which does NOT require a giant pile of gold!) I think the New World Order would be established in about a fortnight without firing a shot.

      2. This is about as good as the GOP could get. They had a weak hand and played it pretty well. I hear reports that the student loan payment pause is out (not sure). Don’t know why anyone thinks the debt ceiling is not coming back in 2025 because its return is part of the deal. In any event, that ceiling is a gimmick that doesn’t do much for fiscal sanity.

  11. Who had an Iran-Afghanistan war on their bingo card for this year?
    https://www.pbs.org/newshour/world/iran-taliban-exchange-heavy-gunfire-in-conflict-over-water-rights-on-afghan-border

On the one hand, it is a shame that they can’t both lose. On the other, well the Taliban having enough modern arms to even consider fighting Iran? That’s Joe Biden’s legacy right there. His hasty withdrawal plan saw it all left behind, not withdrawn with the men or at least burned as they left.

    1. I’ve been following the Afghanistan situation and this is looking for the Taliban like *the* textbook case of winning a war, losing the peace. The Taliban are pissing off or otherwise alienating everyone around them…and even some not around them. About a year or so ago, on a Twitter feed called ‘Calibre Obscura’ there was posted photos of anti-Taliban resistance fighters with pretty new looking Russian arms. These aren’t Soviet tech and they looked relatively newly made. Then the Kremlin denied sending arms to the resistance back last August, which confirms that the Kremlin is sending arms to the resistance. On top of that is the ‘fluidity’ of the membership of the IS-K and Taliban ranks ie even some Taliban are posting complaints about how their colleagues like to swap hats between those two factions. The Taliban have been totally unable to vanquish the Islamic-State, they can’t even secure Kabul.

I have to think there are some upper-rank people in China, military and otherwise, who are looking at how both Pakistan and Afghanistan are unfolding/unravelling and are in the initial or even later stages of realizing that they have made a terrible mistake in trying to make some kind of ally out of Pakistan. I honestly think that arena could be subject to a huge conflagration. Given the personnel links between all those parties and the Pak government-which has nukes-that conflagration could be extreme.

  12. “This actually may amount to something,” is the other side of the “It’s probably nothing,” asymptote. Sarcasm is an absolute value.
Anyhew….. Target is now a big looser in pop culture.
