Go Woke, Go Broke

In a new segment of the Podcast of the Lotus Eaters, we learn about Alissa Heinerscheid, a hyper-woke executive, who appears to be behind one of the worst marketing decisions in the history of American business. Incidentally, there’s a Wilfrid-Laurier connection too!

Incidentally, in case you missed it last November, this op-ed about Head Girls explains why they are so incredibly dangerous, to society and to beer companies.

Update: Matt Walsh chimes in about Head Girl Heinerscheid. Is anyone surprised that a Harvard & Wharton grad HATES typical Bud Light customers?! Asking for a friend.

  1. I am not a beer drinker, but all American beers taste like urine . When I DO drink beer, I want a Kokanee or Canadian, after working in my garden.
She will keep her job, Bud Lite’s executives will double down on this.
I don’t care, it is just another example of Canada/America going down the tubes.

    1. All the major brewers run PSA campaigns urging consumers to “Drink Responsibly”. This is nothing but feel-good virtue signaling. Twenty percent of consumers buy 80% of the beer sold. If they heed these messages, the brewers go broke. You certainly can’t replace the “fratty and out of touch” demographic with the snowflake brigade and expect to grow the brand. She should try to get a refund on her tuition from Harvard and Wharton.

    2. I don’t care for Kokanee or Canadian though I’ll allow the latter is not as bad as the former. I’ve never tasted urine, so I’ll take your word for it about a comparison with those two beers.

  2. She has three children all through surrogate mothers.
    Ivy League of course
    Self absorbed at all times
    Batshit crazy

  3. Gonna take something way stronger than bud light to make me forget you have a penis

  4. Wrote to AB to advise I wont be buying anymore or their brands. Maybe the Trans will pick up the slack….

  5. I simply could grok the thinking behind this marketing disaster.
I told a friend that this was so nutz it had to be a high end executive suite infiltration for the purpose of sabotaging and destroying the company. I wasn’t far off.

    1. As the saying goes, the best way to understand the behaviour of any large organization is to assume it is secretly controlled by a cabal of its enemies.

My experience in corporations large and small is that most executives are simply too dumb and/or too narcissistic to think on the scale of the organization, whether they want to or not. They make decisions based on what amuses or entertains them personally, and get away with it because in any organization greater than a hundred people there’s enough institutional inertia that their decisions take a long time to cause real damage.

  6. I have totally separate (and valid) reason for bypassing Budweiser. My favorite beer is Budweiser Budvar. It is not an Anheiser Busch product. It predates Anheiser Busch…Adolphus Busch stole the name when he opened up shop in the US. As a result, there have been ongoing trademark disputes between the two companies (Budvar is made in Czechoslovakia). And, the only way to purchase the true Budweiser Budvar in the US is under a different name thanks to Anheiser Busch’s influence in the US Courts. As a result, Budweiser Budvar had to change their beer’s name (which they have been calling it since the 1700’s) to Czechvar Beer.

Try one. If you are a beer drinker you will enjoy it.

    1. I agree with you about Budvar, I got to try it (and many other good lagers) when I lived in the U.K. I soon came to prefer bitters and ales when they were served properly, but good lager is a good drink.

  7. What cowboy or rig pig is going to have the nerve to order a Budweiser in a bar? With his friends going uh oh!

  8. The beer of brokeback cowboys … brokeback cowgirls and broke Anheiser Busch shareholders

  9. Crap. I like Stella Artois. But can’t drink something made by a company that hates me and my wife and daughter.

  10. So many pundits and talking heads on-line discussing why Alissa Heinerscheid could have been so stupid as to think that Dylan Mulvaney would be a good face for Budweiser. They just don’t get it. Neither do you. It wasn’t a marketing mistake. She did exactly what her masters wanted. They don’t care if they lose money. They don’t care if they wreck the brand. All they care about is promoting gender confusion, sowing the seeds of division and destroying our heteronormative society. And this little ploy moved that agenda forward. Who cares about money when you are a bunch of trillionaires and want to see society burn.

  11. My advice to “her” kids is move out as soon as you’re 16. She doesn’t know what the word evolve means.
Your government has been telling you for years that men are women. You can’t boycott your government.
Bud Lite could have recognized Boy George 40 years ago and no one would care. It’s different now, because this has been forced, no debates, no discussions. It’s certainly not “progress” and not the future. This is the hill.

  12. I worked on a project at the Labatt Brewery in Edmonton a couple of years ago, They bottle the Budwieser, Kokanee, Labatts and Corona there. InBev owns Labatt, so unless you’re drinking Molson or something else they are all under the same umbrella. Alexander Keith’s as well.

  13. Let’s leave aside all the “woke” part of this story for a second.

Why the hell does any sane human think that a winning strategy is to belittle and denigrate the very people you need to grow your product/message.

Have these people learned nothing from Hillary Clinton and her disastrous “deplorable” presidential campaign?
