  1. Another option automakers are moving to is options based on subscriptions. If want your fancy new EV to crank out that 800HP, then add $400 a month as long as you own the car else all you get is 400hp.
    That sucks.
roaddog is right, you will own nothing.
Fight back by not buying it, ever.

  2. Yet one more of yesterday’s conspiracy theories turns into today’s news.

    Shocka.

    1. There’s going to be a thriving industry develop in disabling all these tracking and control features. And as to digital currency, unofficial currencies will spring up.

      1. Every attempt to lock in firmware and even hardware in the personal computing space has either been hacked, cracked, or supplanted by open hardware/firmware designs. I used to work in the IoT space and I have a lot of sympathy for the manufacturers – it’s very hard to make money selling just hardware – but the solution of locking everyone into subscription-based models or encrypted firmware is not the answer.

I’m hoping the Framework laptop project demonstrates that it’s possible to be profitable in the long term with an open modular design.

  3. Funny thing here, every one of these technologies of control, require stable uninterrupted supply of electricity.
And assume that these technologies will remain in operational condition when mixed with road salt, heat, cold, water and dust..
    And then the human factor..
Can we combine the self driving car, with the digital retrieval system?
I want my “robot car” doing the killdozer circuit.
    Forward.
    Faster.
    Harder.
Next the handheld EMF device guaranteed to snuff out all rouge cars, via their built in antennae.

  4. Pay your bills and your car won’t be repossessed. If you miss payments now someone will repossess your car, fancy electronic gizmo or not.

    1. No one will never, ever misuse this technology to steal your car.

Everyone working for Ford, GM, ???(whoever owns Chrysler this year), VW, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, etc., will never, ever give away the software and passwords for a small or large bribe, or be suborned by a honey trap.

We all know Bankers and finance agencies are full of incorruptible paragons of virtue. There is no way any “Repossession Agents” and Tow Truck companies or employees would ever steal a car or give their sketchy buddy the means to steal a car.

If a manufacturer ever implements this tech? Within 18 months they will be recalling every so far un-stolen new car to disable the technology before those cars gets ripped off too. And hopefully the car companies will actually pay damages to the owners for all the cars that get ripped off in that 18 months.

Remember those un-crackable key fobs? It took how many months to crack those?

    2. Pay your bills and your car won’t be repossessed.
Unless bill payments are frozen to protect constituents from horns.
