Blog Notes

All is well. I’ve been on the road, not far enough south to consider it a winter vacation, but a vacation from the internet just the same. My connectivity here is just awful, so blogging has been difficult to impossible. I should be back to the normal routine by middle of next week, weather permitting.

Update: Apparently this is what we have to look forward to. Oh, goody. (Hwy 13 in SE Sask)

  1. Try to avoid eastern North Dakota. There’s so much loose snow that any decent amount of wind closes the roads.

  2. Stop driving through all that flyover country where the internets haven’t arrived yet … and the people are still living in the 1950’s … Right?

      1. Sweet. Beautiful country. Screw the internets. Drink in that sweet KY bluegrass.

Giving the new van a break-in cruise?

      2. I used to stay at a cheap hotel close to the Downs when there on business. I imagine it has been torn down since those days.

Thought things had been rather quiet. Thx for the warning! 😉

  4. Just be safe. I have followed you since, as Don Lemon might say, I was in my prime. Rock solid wisdom. I once tried to get my MP to have a look. Of course, you scared him. The imagination of a fruit fly. Thank-you for your dedication.

  5. Re: Hw 13- If you can divert up to the Yellowhead, pretty much normal WDC (winter driving conditions). Stop in for coffee & bathroom break.

    1. I’m rather *ahem* … confident … in my winter/snow driving abilities … but ice road driving as depicted in that photo looks absolutely panic inducing. I’d expect to be on the side of the road, stuck in the snow … slowly freezing to death … waiting for the next car to come along.

Me too, but with that much pure ice even the amount of ‘crown’ on the road becomes an issue. Scary-looking stuff, for sure.

  6. Drive by feel. When you feel the tires on either shoulder, carefully drift back towards the centre……

  7. As we say in the energy business, formerly known as the oil and gas industry, drive safe.

  8. That road looks much like our back alley (out of which we have to go with the car) for too much of the winter. It was so icy we could have hosted a Flames game on it. Fortunately, the sun has now risen to the point where the north side of the alley is showing brown, and the north rut has a creek running down it. On the downside, one drives down the alley at a decided tilt.
Have a safe trip home. That road looks as if you need a “self-sander” on the bumper of your vehicle.
