1. Much too sanitized. Truth is that Medieval, Renaissance and Enlightenment palaces were reeking piles of feces. They literally stank to high heaven because washing was unknown and privies didn’t really exist for the thousands who inhabited them.

   They were so unsanitary that the inhabitants would have to migrate from time to time simply so that the worst of the sewage could be cleaned out. It’s no wonder that lethal diseases were rife among the inhabitants, and that lifespans were usually short and unpleasant.
