Your Competence Is Problematic

We’ve gone through endless challenges to, and jettisoning of, entrance exams for police and firefighting in this country on disparate impact grounds. In New York City, there were decades of litigation brought against the firefighters’ exam, which expected firefighters to be able to read instructions on their gear, to be able to understand the chemical components of various firefighting foams and whatnot, and blacks failed that test of reading and cognitive skill at much higher rates than whites. So, the test had a disparate impact on blacks, even though the test was not discriminatory… But it was thrown out because it had a disparate impact.

On “diversity” versus competence, and the stupefying effects of “disparate impact” ideology.

    1. I don’t want to be within the possible radius of that flight when it occurs but I’ll watch video of the crash.

  1. As East Palestine has revealed, Chemistry matters.
Before I retired, I did compliance, and had to read Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), and even my small business employer had some very ghastly chemicals (small quantities), in the past. It’s unnerving that these materials could be in the hands of midwits.

    1. No worries we have WHMIS training now, and the government instructor is pleased as punch when he says safety is going to be taught in public school. Which at first glance it can be said that’s grand but .. safety doesn’t mean much if individual consequence is offered up at the alter in the name of a prog utopia. And that’s been the hidden path all along.
One question though, do we have a MSDS safety data sheet on the MNRA vaccines ? Since we jabbed kids with them …..
I just find it ironic for some reason.

      1. Sure.
Just like we know the filter number and hazard type for our respirators,to prevent the Dread Covid Virus reaching us..
Told it were an “Airborne Workplace Hazard”.
Occupational Health and Safety will get right on it..
        Any Day Now.

      2. WHMIS has nothing on 5S.

The garbage cans have a sign above them, “garbage can”. Everything has to have it’s sign above it.

    2. On the other hand, we can get carried away with the safety: I dealt with MSDS’s at work, and one day I came across an MSDS for an ink stamp pad. You know, the kind you ink up and then press your rubber stamp into.

That was when I realized we’d gone too far.

      1. It turned into an industry unto itself. Saying so turns you into a pariah in certain circles. But it is an individuals responsibility to be safe make judgment’s and stand by them. We all have seen two brains are better than one fade into leave it to the brain that wants to do the paperwork, and always says yes in a pleasant fluffy way all the while having their butt covered in titanium.
Smarty sterile and shallow in a way, and not to be trusted if you make decisions on a job site.
Heck how many people know retired or wanting to be retired persons being made offers they can’t refuse to go back or stay, and try to being order to the ensuing chaos.
Competence requires instilled responsibility and has nothing to do with race, before being legislated.
But by all means lets give the progs a pass on the real value of earned merit.
“Who’s John Galt” actually I should start to say that whenever “Whatever” comes up in conversations the last year or so.

      2. You should read the MSDS for the dish soap in the break room, Weyland. Or distilled water.

Well… maybe not. A body can only take so much weeping and despair.

  2. Theresa Tam. Enough said on disastrous diversity hires.

United Airlines plans for 50% diversity hires in the next 10 years on its 4000 or so upcoming pilot vacancies, vs 100% on competency. Think about THAT next time you book a flight.

It’s not even eyebrow-raising anymore to note that this diversity garbage is killing people.

    1. @mhb – “Theresa Tam. Enough said on disastrous diversity hires.”

That – or – CCP facilitation for gifts received. Considering that Canada nor the US has ever bent over backwards for the CCP or found any spy’s in our midst/

  3. And everyone still believes that all this is due to incompetence, ignorance, and stupidity.

Again, folks… IT’S ALL PART OF THE PLAN! The enemy ISN’T THAT STUPID! If you still believe that they are, then you are in for a very rude awakening.

    1. I agree! They (the globalist forces) want us dead! And if that makes me a conspiracy theorist, then so be it.

      1. You are in good company when it comes to being called a conspiracy theorist. As has been said, it is a conspiracy until it isn’t.

        1. I challenge any “conspiracy theory” hate mongers to name a war or revolution in history that didn’t begin life as a conspiracy in some form or another.

Of course you would need to understand a little history in the first place, which is the first obstacle in the way.

    2. ^^^ 100%, fc.

But if it’s any comfort, ‘The Plan’ always fails everyone, even the Evil Wile E. Coyote Geniuses that think up and implement those top-down plans. If those plans actually worked, we’d still be speaking Babylonian or some such.

  4. “So, the test had a disparate impact on blacks, even though the test was not discriminatory… But it was thrown out because it had a disparate impact.”

And now you have firemen who can’t read the instructions on a Scott Airpack, don’t know what happens when you mix bleach with ammonia, and can’t understand complex machinery like the computer on the firetruck.

Which is fine, if all they do is stay in the firehouse. But sometimes there’s a fire.

  5. Oh?
Like those “Highly Educated and Superbly Trained EPA persons ,who turned a river Yellow.
Or Kind of like Justine’s Cabinet?
    And all of our Bureaus.

To protect the useless and clueless is to deny them their God Given Rights.

They must be allowed to roam free and receive the natural rewards of their actions.

  6. The really sad thing is that this will drive prejudice in the general public. Was that MD/Attorney/Engineer a diversity hire? How about your airliner captain? You are pretty much assured that if they are a straight white male the only way they got there was by being exceptional at what they do.

  7. Always ask for the male Asian heart surgeon.
He had to have the highest marks to get into med school.

And convince liberals to ask for the most affirmative action doctor who got in because of diversity and skin color.
Let Charles Darwin do his thing.

  8. Sorry to break it to you all … but the “diversity” driven rush to incompetence has now been met by the “universal” rush to incompetence. Our public schools are failing EVERYONE! Test scores are literally CRATERING … everywhere, for everyone. White kids are nearly as stupid as black kids. The solution? End testing. That’s what the schools are doing. Any organization that considers an end to testing as a solution … must be dissolved.

And AI is simply gonna make it worse.

PS … for as long as my wife has been teaching (30 years) … her teachers UNION has always fought “standardized testing” … and lamented having to “teach to the test”. Teachers and their UNIONS loathed being held accountable for actually TEACHING their children … and the tests that would hold them accountable.

  9. L – Referendum ballot: A. Competency or B. Incompetency(D.I.E.-Diversity/Inclusion/Equity).

P.S. 1. – This will apply to every aspect of your life, so choose carefully)
P.S. 2. – Turning Canada into a copy of North Korea is proving to be much easier than previously thought.)

  10. Try being a fire fighter and my fellow medic is 5ft 1. weights around 130lbs and can’t carry any thing heavy…

    Nuts.

    1. Worked with firefighters that did residential tree planting on their off shifts, they shared a story.
The rookie had to carry the tools on a call to a high rise.
She made it to the required floor with them.
But the janitor was carrying the tools. 🙂
It is not all for sure but ……
Progs they are good for a laugh, if you don’t see the end game.

  11. I recall a new story from 15 to 20 years ago. I think it was in New York. A court ordered an obese black female who flunked her physical to be hired as a firefighter. On her first day of training she blew out her knee and ended up on permanent disability. Unfortunately I can’t locate the story. I suspect my search terms might trigger liberals.

    1. Wow, that’s quite a test! I expected something like “smoke rises and water flows down hill” (T/F)

  12. As I said before, we have to re-think how we train and educate people.

Though it is easy to blame teachers and teachers’ unions, where are the parents and students demanding results or working hard themselves?

It’s a trifecta of planned failure and it needs to stop.

  13. ” … where are the parents …”

Exactly. They’re at the same place they are on ALL other issues: either completely ignorant, or wilfully looking away. The first lot can be excused for stupidity: the latter – and much larger – group can only claim cowardice.

    1. Schools are baby-minding centres for most parents.

And they wonder why little Hayden can’t read.
