When The FBI Does It, That Means That It’s Not Illegal

Jonathan Turley:

The Red Scare is back and it is going blue.

I testified this week in Congress on the Twitter Files and how they suggest what I have called “censorship by surrogate” or proxy.

The files show dozens of FBI and government employees actively seeking the censorship of citizens and others for their viewpoints. In my testimony, I warned that this was reminiscent of the McCarthy period where the FBI played a role in the establishment of blacklists for socialist, communists, and others. I encouraged Congress not to repeat its failures from the 1950s by turning a blind eye to such abuse.

This view was amplified by former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, who became persona non grata for her anti-war sentiments in Congress. She was later labeled a “Russian asset” by Hillary Clinton, who has refused to support that scurrilous claim of a former member.

For years, the Democrats pushed a Russian collusion theory that collapsed. It was later disclosed that the Clinton campaign hid and then lied about funding the infamous Steele Dossier. Nevertheless, people like Carter Page were falsely accused of being Russian agents and critics labeled as Russian apologists. Ironically, the FBI was warned that the dossier appeared to be the result of Russian disinformation and relied on a presumed Russian agent.

If anything, my warning of McCarthy-like attacks and measures seemed to be taken more as a suggestion than an admonition by some. Soon after the end of the hearing, MSNBC contributor and former Sen. Claire McCaskill appeared on MSNBC to denounce the member witnesses (Sen. Chuck Grassley, Sen. Ron Johnson, and former Rep. Gabbard) as “Putin apologists” and Putin lovers.

This probably doesn’t need to be said, but for the few who might not have realized it yet – we’ve been dragged into Ukraine to fight not Russia, but a Democrat proxy war with Trump.

  1. “This probably doesn’t need to be said, but for the few who might not have realized it yet – we’ve been dragged into Ukraine to fight not Russia, but a Democrat proxy war with Trump”

There’s a few from the overnight threads that need to write this out on the blackboard 100 times….

  2. There’s no reason why we can’t try to kill two birds with one stone.
Of course there are plenty of reasons why that won’t work, but why dwell on the negatives?

  3. The extent and duration of the deep state attacks on Trump are slowly being revealed. How long will the press continue the coverup?

Now that the New York Times has turned on Kamala and Joe, will they start to report the findings of Jim Jordan’s committee?

  4. I see that Turley is unwilling to accept that McCarthy was right about soviet infiltration of the government. (see venona papers) while doing his whataboutism for the FBI’s actions….

      1. Turley was mostly hanging the whole of the media and our government on their own McCarthy meme petard.

    1. The point Turley was trying to make is that the state should not be involved in ideological witch hunts, even if accurate. The left leveraged McCarthy victimhood over the last 70 years to: first, make the universities a safe haven for Marxism and then, the dominant feature in the University (humanities) professoriate, and eventually throughout the institutions. Now the left is doing the same and the lesson “should” be that our enemy is the state.

I would argue that the war and anti-trump sentiment are one and the same. Connected by common cause of maintaining US hegemony by any means possible. Trump’s America First policy with its isolationist tendencies is seen as a threat to this.
The Ukraine war only makes the US stronger and Europe more dependent on the US.
I anticipate after Russia and Europe are weakened, the US will try the same strategy against the Chinese.

    1. I think this is a miss. First examine the apparent objective of the never Trump “hawkish Republicans”. Pair them with the opportunistic morally bankrupt Damocrats. This offers a synigery to the New World Order puppeteers who’s objective is and always has been the weakening of the US which is paramount to the objective of global governance.

  6. The threat of investigation of the flow of money to corrupt politicians of various stripes through Ukraine is what I believe has predicated this mess. They don’t care who or how many die as demonstrated by the covid emergency , also an operation to defeat Trump.

    Jonathan Turley,
… “Putin likely stands in awe at the success of the left in using the FBI and corporations to regulate speech… authoritarian countries have struggled to gain the very level of censorship carried out by Twitter and other executives with the support of politicians and pundits”

… “former Clinton Labor Secretary Robert Reich warned that censorship is “necessary to protect American democracy” and that uncensored social media is, “Musk’s dream. And Trump’s. And Putin’s. And the dream of every dictator”

… “Sen. Joe McCarthy said, ‘The Democratic Party [is] the bedfellow of international communism’ “

    1. Robert Reich is an avowed command-control Communist. Anything he says is utter tosh, and is intended to enslave and impoverish the population.

      1. That’s EXACTLY why Putin has become the boogeyman to America’s (and the West’s) leftists … because Putin does NOT equate homosexuals to a heterosexual family with children. Because Putin won’t take a knee before the LGBTQqAI2s+/- cabal.

And BTW … I financially support an American-based Christian Youth Group called ‘Young Life’ who have been in Russia and several former Soviet States ever since the fall of the Soviet Union … sharing the Gospel with young Russians. Unlike here in the US … Young Life has not been chased away by Putin.

  8. This interview sums it all up in a nutshell of about 40 minutes, for those of you that are interested. As an aside you could substitute Great Britain for the United State in many of Mr. Johnson’s statements.

We have been lied to so often in the last fifty years that as Orwell prophesized the governments around the world have within their cabinets, Ministries of Truth that dictate what you are supposed to believe. Thank God there are people like many readers here and people like Larry Johnson who try to continually get the real truth out.

  9. Putins actions precede Trumps ambitions as a politician, so your point isn’t relevant. It also illuminates your ignorance on the subject of Ukraine.

    1. You really are this ignorant?
“Putins actions precede Trumps ambitions as a politician”
What date do you imagine Trump started paying attention?
And you of course “know” when Mr Trump started entertaining “political Ambitions”.
Just like the rest of your assertions..
