Another Day, Another Air Travel Fiasco

Reuters;

A U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) system outage is leading to delays at airports across the country due to ‘ground stops’, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport said on Wednesday.

The FAA said that it was working to restore a system that alerts pilots to hazards and changes to airport facilities and procedures that had stopped processing updated information.

“The FAA is still working to fully restore the Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) system following an outage. While some functions are beginning to come back on line, National Airspace System operations remain limited,” it said on Twitter.

FAA has ordered all donestic departures grounded until 9am Eastern.

Update 4: The FAA is making progress in restoring its Notice to Air Missions system following an overnight outage. Departures are resuming at @EWRairport and @ATLairport due to air traffic congestion in those areas. We expect departures to resume at other airports at 9 a.m. ET.

Update 5: Normal air traffic operations are resuming gradually across the U.S. following an overnight outage to the Notice to Air Missions system that provides safety info to flight crews. The ground stop has been lifted.

We continue to look into the cause of the initial problem

      1. NOTAM’S used to be notice to air men, I must have missed the change to ‘ missions ‘ .

  2. Breaking on BNN-Bloomberg news! President Biden has been informed that no planes are flying! And DoT secretary Pete Buttigieg is on top of the situation!

    1. Speaking of fiascos, massive fire at Carus chemical plant in LaSalle, Illinois.
Hmmm, climate change at work ?

They make chemicals that clean the air in scrubbers, competition to Bill Gates other industrial endevours that supposedly clean the air also.
From food plant fires, chicken growers/eggs to oil refineries and sabotage at electrical sub stations , things that make you go , hmmmm.

  3. Yea..WESTJET, HAS BEEN A COLLOSSAL DISASTER. FLYING FROM Edm & Calgary to Firebag. Nothing but a clusterfk every shift. Last night tge shift got in at 3:00 AM…unreal delay after delay…and it’s not even. Cold..

Came bk to Calgary cpl weeks ago, 1-1/2 hr delay outa Firebag, land in Calgary, 40 min till they get the gantry out to the plane..then go down to get my small bag I was foolish enough to check…1-1/2 hrs before it came. The 3 carousels were packed with luggage, at least 5-600 folks waiting around with Flippin bagge strewn everywhere and not one agent had a clue.

    Just a colossal shitshow…

  4. I see that they have renamed NOTAMs.

Was “Notice to Airmen”, now “Notice to Air Missions”

Can’t have safety critical stuff not Woke, can we?

    1. So if you filed a flight plan for nighttime then the airport authority cancelled said plan, would that be a nocturnal air omission?

Glad I don’t fly planes anymore.

Next up: COCKpit. Might be offensive to some tranny pilot who just had bottom surgery….and was a diversity hire, but I digress…..

  5. Just get used to staying within 15 minutes of your house/sleep unit. And eating bugs. Travel and meat are for our superiors. We must work harder to provide for them.

  6. Did someone “upgrade” the software, fall asleep with a coffee in their hand huddled over the all important server, use the password “pass1234”, or did they hire a woman who got 50.1% in computer programming, enough to take on the role of senior systems specialist in charge of airborne safety for America?

  7. Expect more of this. FAA will no doubt double down on its “priorities”. Doing its actual job will not even rate a back seat.

  8. With these resources, DOT would better ensure that historic investments under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law deliver resources and benefits equitably, including communities that have been historically underserved and
adversely affected by persistent poverty or income inequality.

Isn’t that just another way of saying the government is gonna transfer wealth from whitey to the black folk? Didn’t the US Supreme Court already rule that was a violation of the 1964 Civil Rights Act? How is this government getting away with transferring $1.7 Trillion to POC? “Reparations” by any other name. Let me guess … with Buttgagg in charge … “The Queers” are “underserved communities” too …

  9. Every day, a vindication.
    I used to love flying.
Flew but no longer enjoyed it after 9/11.
Like VOWG I may very well not fly anymore.
Daughters in NYC and Dublin. Nope, you fly here.
I almost took up pilot training a decade or so ago but after further consideration decided to abandon my life long dream.
