I wish the Alberta government would pass a law that all Canadian products had to be labeled as to what province they come from. I buy as few things from eastern Canada as possible, been doing it for thirty years or more. I love seeing that stupid ‘Proudly Made in Canada’ label on products so I can avoid them. A small contribution to the war but a contribution nonetheless.
Quebec can be kicked out of Canada if we choose to.

In viable alternative universe, Canada could be behave like Norway. Rapidly and aggressively exploiting our oil and gas, but through domestic policies encourage the switch away from fossil fuels.
In this scenario, the West becomes significantly more powerful in our Dominion. Quebec less so.
I live in ON, but if I was an Albertan, I would be asking these questions. If I didn’t get satisfactory answers I’d be plotting an escape from our nation. Perhaps taking Sask and Man with me.
Well it’s not just Quebec’s motivation to knock down the West a notch, it was also the reason behind the NEP that Comrade Trudeau and his henchman Marc Lalonde put together. As described in David Kilgour’s 1988 book, Uneasy Patriots, Lalonde said
“The major factor behind the NEP wasn’t Canadianization or getting more from the industry or even self-sufficiency. The determinant factor was the fiscal imbalance between the provinces and the federal government. Our proposal was to increase Ottawa’s share appreciably, so that the share of the producing provinces would decline significantly and the industry’s share would decline somewhat.”
In other words, steal Alberta resources.

I’ve been using the word colony to describe Alberta’s position in Canada for several years now. In my opinion Canada doesn’t need to be fixed, it needs to be decolonized.

What happens with the indigenous if Alberta and Saskatchewan decide to exit? I can’t remember how Quebec planned on dealing with the situation.
