Can’t wait to plan any road trip around whole night refueling ports only to find out that when I arrive all ports are occupied. A feature, not a bug, should not go to cottage because land belongs to natives anyway, I know, I know.
Wait!? Whaaaat!? He said that after 20min. of 50amp charging he had added 2% more than the 22% the truck started with for a grand total of 2 miles additional range!!?? WTF!? That rate and range equates to 100miles range at 100% charge.
So what IS the REAL range of a 100% charged truck? It doesn’t sound too good.
PS … it takes about 10 minutes to fill an empty tank on my Land Rover. And I’ll bet my range is a shitload longer than that “tent pitching” dude truck … for dudes who ride brokeback
I remember the Summer of my senior year. My Father had to deliver a pickup load of appliances to a project in Colorado. 2,000 miles in 48 hours at 55 mph there and back Friday night to Sunday night. I think we refueled six or eight times, and napped twice.
With an EV? Would we be able to do it in a week?
rd, the word for what is happening is regression.
They were in Co. From Denver to Anchorage would take about 90 nights at 12 hours per night of charging to travel the 3,000 plus miles needed to travel. That would be about $3,000 in campground fees alone.
So, the battery lasts about 5-7, maybe 10 years. By that time, those electronic displays and sensors are going to start failing too. Do you spend all that money ($20-30K) on a 130kW-hr battery PLUS replacing some electronics too? Or do you just scrap the entire truck?

Bottom line is this, there will be ZERO used EV Market.
Why anyone would consider buying a used worn out EV…is completely beyond me.
Battery replacement North of 30k….?? for something that might get you 200km on a good day…if you can even find a place to charge it & then that said charger is actually working ..?
Funny that ya know, at no point in the Thousands of times I’ve filled up with those dastardly fossil fuels, have I ever run into a pump issue…?? They always seem to dispense what I require in 10 min or less.
The sheer idiocy of those purchasing this virtue signaling garbage is beyond mind blowing.
And VOWG nails it: The STUPID IS BEYOND STRONG
…yep.
The stupid is strong out there Luke.
These folks aren’t the sharpest tools in the box. But maybe the point is to see if you can drive the totally impractical vehicle to the toughest location for it to get to and function (or not), with a retarded crew.
It did occur to me you could load a pretty hefty gas or diesel generator in the bed of that thing – although actually hauling a load would surely significantly reduce their driving range.
How many fatal fires at campgrounds will it take to get EV charging from camp hookups banned?
I am guessing that the practice will never be banned — gotta signal that virtue, no matter how many lives it costs.
Charging stations on the Alaska Hiway….?? LMFAO…..as if.
But pls, go for it boyo….in WINTER TOO..!!
They will be found, FROZEN in their Lightning….Zero Battery power – ZERO life Signs – amid signs of predation.
More pls….EV’s in a Frosty winter like we are having, may be the fastest way to rid ourselves of the EV climatards of the world.
That makes sense.
You could refill that truck with gasoline in the time it took him to drag his cords and attachments out. Imagine having to go through that in the rain or driving snow?
People are having problems getting computer chips for their cars I wonder how long the wait would be to replace specialized cords and attachments. One of our cars, a 5 year old Tucson need three chips on three recalls in about the same time period. The vehicle never stopped working well but it took eight months before the dealer had them to cover the recall. The more complex we make things the more difficult it becomes to keep them functioning.
Electric cars have a place in most of the world where people drive10 km per day and don’t have winter. Where you have distances and 20 or 30 below don’t even pretend. Where is the economy in hauling around 2500 pounds of batteries? Electric cars should be those tiny $2000 – $3000 Chinese mini cars with lead/acid batteries.
North to Alaska eh, at some point on that trip, reality will bite em in the ass. I wouldn’t want to attempt that trip in mid summer, let alone now. Anyone taking bets on how long it takes, if…IF they actually get there, which I doubt. Plus, if by some miracle they do make it, it’ll probably be early spring by then, and then the glorious triumphant return trip!
