“How different it feels this time around”

Dann Hannon;

Broadcasters are lustily cheering anti-lockdown protesters in China. Members of Congress offer unqualified support. President Joe Biden, although more guarded, is sympathetic.

No Western politician, as far as I can see, is insulting the protesters. They are not dismissed as selfish or sociopathic, nor as dupes of conspiracy theories. Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) captured the mood: “To the people of China — we hear you and we stand with you as you fight for your freedom.”

Broadcasters and columnists who spent 2020 calling anti-lockdowners kooks and criminals are now uncomplicatedly applauding their Chinese counterparts. They see ordinary people standing up against an authoritarian government the anti-COVID policies of which were crushing liberty. . . .

Well, unless they were setting gas stations ablaze or looting Targets. Those were applauded.

  1. “Yes, the coronavirus became less lethal.”
Uh, no. We just stopped killing more elderly by stopping the rush to intubate them when it all started and the reason we did it in the first place was to protect workers in hospitals, not patients.

  2. After all the destruction, the mayhem, the damage by politicians and the mass media cartel, they can’t, its impossible to admit that they, the confab, were wrong.
This was the same with communists, your agent experience, they knew they were wrong after so many years without any progress in the well being of the proletariat, they knew it, though they could not admit it, lest the sand castles collapse.
It is an ideology of the ruling class, the credentialed, those that went to school for a long time and came out with social studies titles.
Years ago, took a course on public discourse at a university, the instructor was none other than a former talk guy at the CeeBeeCee. Anyway, one of the exercises was to sit 4 at a table and discuss. The instructor chose homosexuality for a subject, I was to defend the proposition that homosexuals should adopt children. Told the instructor that, that would be impossible for me to do.
From that episode, one can gather that the relativism and circular speech is the norm today. It is to your credit if you support a meme that you can’t possibly agree with.
If you watch the people on the networks, they tell bald faced lies with such confidence, its stunning. They know they are lying, they know people know they are lying and can’t stop. Once you’re in the mode, you gotta stick to it or lose admiration of your peers. They agree with you, knowing your talking bullshit. It’s for a ‘good’ cause.
So you get the contradictory falsehoods from the ruling class, though you are not part of it so shut up.
They have the mouthpiece and you don’t.
Thanks Ms. Kate for the blog.

  3. I just finished watching a great documentary titled ‘Battleground Melbourne’, which outlined the craziness that enveloped the state of Victoria, Australia in 2020/2021. The authoritarian over-reach was nothing short of astounding.

Yet in November 2022 the same authoritarian, Daniel Andrews was re-elected with 51% of the mandatory votes. JT was elected with about 32%. The parallels between Canada and Australia are very disturbing and say much more about the compliance and acceptance of “strong leaders” by the people than I like to think about.

Has anyone asked Trudeau which side he’s on? (seriously, I’d like to see him answer)

    1. I believe he condemmed Xi for arresting the protestors a couple of weeks ago claiming that people have the right to free speech.

  5. If I were Chairman Xi, I’d send Little Potato video of my cops riding stomping horses over disabled people, too.

  6. I believe he condemmed Xi for arresting the protestors a couple of weeks ago claiming that people have the right to free speech. Although I’m sure he actually LOVES Xi’s approach.
