Pipeline Online column on Alberta’s two electrical grid alerts this past week. And it’s not even really cold there yet.
As evidenced twice this past week, the electrical grid can barely handle the demand we have, now, before we switch most of our transportation system to electric vehicles. What happens when half our cars and trucks are EVs? Then three-quarters? What happens when the wind doesn’t blow then? No one goes to work?
When will the other media take notice? When will they start to question this mad rush to wind and solar, and total adoption of electric vehicles? When will someone else in the Saskatchewan media declare “The emperor has no clothes?”

Freezing in the dark is a feature of their plan, not a flaw. They are anti human. Now shut up and get your booster every two months.
You beat me to the punch. It’s all part of the plan. Not being mobile is a feature, not a bug.
We won’t be switching our vehicles to EVs.
City dwellers will take public transit.
Rural dwellers will use horse and buggy ( and use the manure as fertilizer)
Moe wind turbines
Moe solar panels
Moe misery
Permission is not needed from Ottawa to build necessary power plants, build them and stand up to anyone who tries to prevent it.
Exactly. Same goes for fertilizer for farming. Ignore the bloody fascists in Ottawa.
China is paying our politicians to destroy our economies.
Jonestown.
Maybe you might want to ask them why they aren’t ringing the alarm bell, too?
I said it before: because they’re evil.
The Premiers MUST guarantee two things and make it crystal clear to the feds that the people of their provinces will NOT be subjected to power outages or food shortages. All federal laws and all court decisions on the matter will be ignored if they are likely to lead to shortages of either power or food. To do otherwise is to be a participant in societal suicide.
” When will they start to question this mad rush to wind and solar”
When the sheep finally peek their heads up from their smartphones and computers and wonder why the power is out and the trip to the local grocery store results in the depletion of the remaining funds in their bank accounts, leaving nothing for their favourite app upgrades.
It is no big surprise that we are sleepwalking into Armageddon.
That is by design.
I used to balk at conspiracy theorists that talked this way, but the evidence is hard to ignore.
Attacking the engine (fossil fuels) of the world economy with no viable replacement.
Turning farmland into refineries for fuel.
Attacking the production of food, through the increased focus on banning N2O. (This attack front came out of nowhere)
The end result is a slow but steady trajectory to serfdom as governments regulate their way, predicated in their (faux?) belief they are doing the right thing for the planet, at the expense of your freedoms of course.
well, unexpectedly.. there is coal, and oil,or peat in the ground in the prairies, alongside potash.. build a wall, and trade patriot missles from the us..just incase some one,not sayin who,may try to take you coal, oil, and potash… can i come for a visit.
Start by banning EVs in Alberta and Saskatchewan. People who own them will be allowed to keep them safely locked up, but they have to have the batteries removed, and they can only move them with special permission from the government. You will no longer be able to buy or sell them. Good thing they’re all registered already.
Truly the time for gross disobedience has arrived.
Do something if you can whilst the politicians continue to kiss Eco-freak ass when not busy kissing LGBTQ ass, or black ass, or immigrant ass or Indian ass or, any other politically correct ass ….
Our idiocracy must be defeated.
The time for marveling and joking cynically about the depth of stupidity and audacity of our federal government is over as well.
We have to switch into ‘serious’ mode folks. My conspiracy theorist side tells me our government is waging war against as as we sit slack-jawed tying to make sense of our current lives and where we are being led.
My conspiracy theorist side tells me our government is waging war against us
1. “conspiracy theorist” is a CIA-invented term used to ridicule free thinkers who had the audacity to stray from the official narrative
2. look up the historical record of “democide”. Why should anyone trust governments?
Alberta’s GDP is about 330 billion ($84,000 per capita)
Saskatchewan’s GDP is 80 billion ($74,000 per capita)
Our genius political leaders/energy experts (/s) have decided to make our electricity systems and our multibillion dollar economies dependent on the weather…to save the climate. How? By building an unreliable weather-dependent power system that will require fantasy levels of battery storage to keep people alive in our long, dark and often windless -30 Celsius winters. That’s before adding millions of electric vehicles to the grid. We will deindustrialize faster than Germany is currently deindustrializing right now.
Pretty soon, like primitive societies, we might resort to desperately doing Sun Dances, Wind Dances and Rain Dances for heat, energy, transportation and food. A new Dark Age brought to you by the political class.
**I don’t think Alberta’s UCP party or the Saskatchewan Segregation Party will shut down natural gas generation and they’ll try to build small modular reactors. That doesn’t excuse the wind/solar stupidity -and- all it takes is one NDP government to shut down the remaining reliable power generation and kibosh nuclear power.
When will someone else in the Saskatchewan media declare “The emperor has no clothes?”
There’s a reason why, in the original fable, it’s an Emperor (not) wearing the clothes and a child who exposes him. It could have been a wealthy merchant or town mayor. It could have been a rival merchant or a fishwife.
It’s an Emperor because an Emperor has the power to execute anyone who displeases him. That’s the reason the people are so afraid to say anything. It’s a child because a child doesn’t understand the danger in exposing the folly of the Emperor.
And that’s why, Brian. Don’t lose your head.
Interesting perspective, that. This is one of the reasons I went out on my own. I don’t answer to anyone. While Glacier Media never told me what I could or could not write, I knew that at some point I needed the freedom to not answer to anyone but my advertisers. And so far, they like what I’ve been saying.
‘freedom to not answer to anyone but my advertisers’
Careful there Brian… I’m sure you understand the precarious position you are still in.
Very, very aware.
Not go to work? Not drive? When will people understand that these are not “bugs” they are features.
You are talking to people who will not only sacrifice economic output on the altar of stupidity that they worship, but will gladly sacrifice people’s lives directly!
They don’t care about the human cost of their policies. And I don’t mean our “quality of life,” I’m referring to our lives. These people will simultaneously force you to take gene therapy 4x, 6x, 10x per year in order to keep granny alive for another few years AND sit by and watch as the elderly freeze in their homes because they can’t afford energy (or cook in the summer as the case may be).

Seems to me that this 4 decades long Green propaganda “theatre” that has been foisted upon the WEST..and only the West, has absolutely nothing to do with the environment whatsoever.
It is my belief that theose who control the WEF, UN, WHO et all, HAVE decided that the Western Hemisphere and its (previously held), belief in Personal Freedom presents an inherent danger to their Global designs.
They desire nothing short of the utter destruction of Western Hemisphere Culture & its peoples… by a constant attack against the one energy source that led to its rise.
That coupled with a campaign to totally neuter our culture with Satanic Filth and Revisionist History.
We are in fact at WAR, and yet the vast majority are completely oivious as their noggins are constantly coupled to one digital device or another..and with the advent of virtual reality, won’t realize that the proverbial .225 cal bullet that hit them was actually real.
I truly Fear my Children’s future.
Right now, at 10:25 AM in SW Saskatchewan, it’s -25°C with a feeble 12-klick wind. Real Feel -34. There’s a high-pressure zone centered over Alberta right now, and it’s moving this way. By the time it gets into SK, the wind will be gone altogether, and no turbines will do anything. Neither will any solar, in the dark.
Wonderful thinking from our “leaders.” I have pointed out several times that high-pressure atmospheric phenomena result in no wind and the coldest winter days and hottest summer days, every time. The exact times when power demand is highest. This seems to have escaped the wise power-generation planners. It sure escapes the greens. And yet, they’re planning MORE turbines.
The definition of stupidity: Trying the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results.
It’s minus 27 and colder in parts of Alberta. I have no idea why BZ said it wasn’t “cold” yet. November’s been damned cold. BZ must be in god awful Manitoba…
I was referring principally to the very south of Alberta, where the wind and solar are concentrated. At -21 C, it’s cold, but not COLD cold. Not freeze your balls off cold.
Real COLD is -35 C range. That’s where wind turbines shut down lest they shatter. Indeed, cold brittle behaviour of many materials, including steel, iron and plastic, is a real concern. Where diesel engines don’t like to start. Gas, too. Where batteries (including lead acid car starting batteries and lithium ion) lose half their capacity. Where your home furnace crapping out becomes a serious concern immediately. THAT’s cold.
F and C meet at -40 and that is cold with 50km wind. Wind turbines don’t run in 50 km winds.
Brian
Ergo Charpy V notch testing…much of the material we use up here in Northern Alberta is of the low temp variety. All needing significant values at -30/40F or better if non insulated.
An archaic Mechanical test but still used widely world wide and with good results if proper procedure is utilized.
ASME – CSA – ASTM – API etc. pretty much always refers to it as impact testing as I’m sure youre fully aware.
Test consists of 10mm X 10mm ~ 4-6″ long specimens of test material with a small V “notch machined in it . Its then dipped in a liquid Nitrogen bath for a period of time, then put in a vise like structure with the V facing up. A large pendulum like affair with a heavy hammer is then released to hit said specimen and it either breaks or just bends. The machine (mechanical) then registers absorbed energy which gives us the low temperature impact qualities of said specimen in ft lbs. Most of this is done by Welding – Metallurgical labs in Western Canada. Typically 3 tests are done and averaged out.

Thanks for your contribution.
It is now high noon in Alberta and I just checked the latest AESO report.
Right now, the Alberta Internal load is 11335 MW, and 718 of that is coming from out of province. (BC, Montana and Sask.)
It is a bright sunny day with some light clouds, and no wind here. Solar is generating 365 MW or about 3.1 % of current demand, while wind is generating 219 MW or about 1.9 %.
Good thing we have neighbors to help us out in time of need.
Dan..
Im damned grateful for said HI Pressure area…working N of Ft Mac…no wind when it’s -25..?? is a God send.
The coal plants are built by the coal pits. Germany has reactivated mothballed plants.
Let’s hope the utilities here can do the same.
It can be done if the morons are locked up. Force the issue it is the only way.
Just looking at the graphic Brian used for his previous thread, “Are we blind?”.
Interesting AESO used a dishwasher instead of an EV.
You’re an idiot if you buy an EV. They’re expensive, dangerous, and bad for the environment. Plus they’re not very practical.
I’m my opinion, EV’s are a novelty as long as the battery stays attached to the vehicle. Batteries degrade over time, don’t work well in cold, take a long time to recharge and cost a lot of money to replace. If they came up with battery packs that can be swapped would be the only way it would last as an alternative to combustion engines. But the technology isn’t there for that.
Saskatchewan has a huge uranium deposit and we could create micro nuclear plants. In the low use times, hydrogen could be created and it would be relatively cheap to convert our current gas engines to run on it. This would actually make sense.
But we know that the WEF wants us to not travel and be concentrated in a small area, which is why they are pushing these garbage EV’s. So let’s continue down this path of destruction for our civilization
Given the reality that there’s no way in hell’s half acre that the Green Theocracies / WEFER Dystopias will allow anywhere near the mining footprint to actually increase the grid capacity with the unreliable grid parasites while allowing EV production to actually replace ICE vehicles. Nuclear is the only high density energy source that could allow that while reducing fossil fuel usage. Green theocracy and monkey-see-monkey-do politics will ensure we follow the energy disasters looming in Germany, UK, California, etc. The “plan” is to get urbans out of their personal automobiles (remaining ICE vehicles will be legislated away) and either pack them into high-rise Soviet-style concrete boxes living as serfs under severe energy rationing or allow energy (and or Health care) policies to kill off most of the riff-raff. Without a realistic energy policy turn-around, I defy anyone to tell me that those conclusion are wrong. A realistic plan would include a gradual transition from fossil fuels to nuclear (and hydro where feasible) over the next 50 years or so while not replacing any unreliables as they face decommissioning. The economics of declining fossil fuel production and rising demand from developing nations would dictate this naturally but the prospect of energy usage per capita of developing nations approaching the developed nations sends the Green Theocracy / Wefers into catatonic despair. The globalists prefer the brown masses stay impoverished and perhaps even perish.
John
“..The globalists prefer the brown masses stay impoverished and perhaps even perish…”
Actually I believe they want US to PERISH….and keep a certain amount of said brown masses as their indentured slaves….whilst keeping the fossil fuels all for themselves.
Its what the overly GREEDY do…Rothschilds et all
Great news! East central Alberta is getting a solar panel farm to compliment its wind farms. Now they will have enough electricity to power both Hemaruka and Bulwark. Sadly Fleet and Federal will still have to do without. Now if only there was a way they could use that 6 foot thick slab of coal that lies about 30 below the surface. If only there was a way….
BTW for those not familiar with east central Alberta Hemaruka and Bulwark are ghost townsites while Fleet and Federal are very small villages.
my dad grew up in an area back east where coal miners sunk shafts in their back yards. i saw carts with tracks going under ground in a guys backyard.. they bootlegged coal to friends.. barter time.
Make that 3 grid alerts this week in Alberta. Have contacted my MLA, our new premier, and AESO itself about the problem. So far no response. It is likely my UCP mla doesn’t understand (she is dumb) but I hoped that our premier does. I did notice that the net zero by 2035 has disappeared off the Aeso website so maybe that is a start to getting a grip on reality. We need to reopen a coal fired generator in Alberta so we can get through the winter.
I am not sure if anyone on this blog is aware, but there is a ton of electrical generation capacity available in Fort Mc Murray. Lots of on/off co-gen (natural gas mostly) . These plants have backed the grid in the past.
We’ve had 2 outages in the last 5 days. 5 hours the 1st nite and 4 hours today. It’s a minor inconvenience for me because I am ready for it. The oldies who live in town are vulnerable. Your house cools rapidly at -25.
I don’t know whats going on with the Alberta grid but these are ominous signs. Winter is just getting started. Prepare for war!
Coal is petering out for entirely sensible reasons ie it’s been replaced by natural gas courtesy of fracking. NatGas can be ramped up and down rapidly and scaled down with much less loss of efficiency than coal. Coal does also release real serious pollution.
“Coal does also release real serious energy.”
FTFY…
any port in a storm.. and i fear there are massive storms in the offing.
