  3. I was reading the Ukraine update at ISW. Not only are the Russians recruiting convicted criminals for their army? They are recruiting criminals with HIV and Hep-C for their army. What possibly could ever go wrong?

    Another update from a few days ago mentioned the repairs on the Crimea to Russia (Kerch) Bridge are progressing. They hope to have the damaged sections of the bridge removed by December. They did not say when the repairs may be completed. In the interim? No Trains, No Trucks, one lane of Automobiles. Trucks are being moved via four Ferries from Russia to Crimea.

    1. And this is Statistics Canada providing editorial content on these population data. It sounds like it was written by the Dear Leader’s own public relations people. ( Some may remember that Statistics Canada at one time limited itself to gathering and reporting data. Expressing left-wing political philosophy is relatively new for them, but has no doubt been encouraged and supported by their political masters.)

I don’t imagine I’m the only one who saw an ironic humour in the news that when all the big-wig cops and bank officials and government types went up to Bella Bella to participate in the ritual shaming (did I say that? sorry reconciliation as it is also known by some), Constables Wong and Tong (not making this up) stayed home. They had “other matters needing their attention.” Apparently ritual shaming is not a big thing in the estimation of Chinese Canadian cops. Good for them. It wouldn’t be with many of us. People make mistakes. Narratives lurch out of the dark shadows and overwhelm the unaware.

    Am I now going to start rattling on about wind in the walnuts? Well probably not, I’m a different kind of crazy from anyone left back east.

  25. The Bank of Canada raised the bank rate by 0.50 percentage points, instead of the expected 0.75 percentage percentage point increase:

    On merit, the BoC should have raised its interest rate by 0.75, since the U.S. Fed is raising its rate by 0.75 points next week. What is happening is that our loonie is taking a dive, raising the risk of more imported inflation.

    So I am wondering if the BoC’s Tiff Maclem got a phone call from Chrystia Freeland or the Bong, to lower the increase. Jagmeet has been making noises the past few days about high interest rates. Central banks are supposed to be independent of politics.

      I wonder how the Germans will recycle the windmills. I think Germany has some rather onerous recycling requirements.

      Or maybe they’ll pull a Volkswagen and claim they recycled, when they actually bury the windmill pieces at the bottom of the coal mine.
