    2. Harper was a crashing disappointment. I say this as one who was a party member for years, believed in the man and the party, talked him up to friends and family, voted for and donated to him.

      Actually, the entire party was a disappointment, and still is. It was doomed from the moment they cozied up to the remnants of Peter MacKay’s PC party, thus ensuring that the Red Tory faction would be in control.

      Harper’s biggest failure was promising to re-write the Firearms Act, and completely failing to do so. It turns out that his party never had the new legislation ready to go- in fact they hadn’t even begun to write the new Act. And then, when gun owners called the party out on this, Harper’s party claimed they’d never promised such a thing, they only promised to end the so-called Long Gun Registry. And even that, they screwed up badly. Every gun owner knows that many illegal copies of the registry were kept, most infamously by the RCMP themselves.

  5. I’ll see your Spaghetti Pomodoro, and raise you an Italian Sunday Gravy. As a fan of “The Godfather”, I was always intrigued by Clemenza’s reference to “the gravy” during the “go to the mattresses” segment of the first movie. This is a big recipe, and you need to set aside an afternoon. It really rocks if you have some good, authentic Italian meatballs pre-made to finish in this sauce. Follow this recipe, and you will have truly ‘off the hook’ spaghetti for about a dozen.
    Bonus! I was once told that the chef in this video is the son of the actor who played Peter Clemenza in “The Godfather”, but I cannot declare that to be categorically true.

      1. Characters in The Sopranos would also occasionally refer to it as “gravy” which I thought was very odd. My immigrant mother from Naples who also grew up in Brooklyn, never used the word “gravy” in referring to pomodoro sauce, only “sauce.”

        1. I have no Italian ancestry, but I did drop a gun once. The tricks to a good meatball are to use 3 kinds of meat (beef, veal, pork) and to put the meatballs into the sauce raw and cook them slowly.

          2. I agree. However, I brown the meatballs first in butter them add them to the sauce. Let them simmer for a couple of hours and the flavour of the sauce and meatballs is outstanding.

    2. My specialty and not one learned from my Italian Wife:

      Eggplant ala Parmigiana.

      Take 2-3 Eggplant

      Cut slices 1/4″or slightly thinner, dipped in egg, bread crumbed (Italian style crumbs), and browned in a skillet with Olive oil. Once browned, set off to side so as to drain on paper towel.

      Take a large Lasagna Pan – make a bottom layer of the browned eggplant.

      Using a pre-made tomato meat sauce with your typical finely chopped & cooked veggies & Grnd Beef contained within and put a layer on top of said eggplant.

      Cover with cheese of your choosing: Asiago, Mozzarella, whatever you prefer..?

      Repeat with a 2nd layer.

      Put in oven covered with tin foil for 45min -1 hr. Take cover off for last 15 min.

      mmmmm, good.

    3. The BEST part of that ‘gravy’ video is the shithole kitchen. No granite countertops, tin-foil for a backsplash, A real serious cooks kitchen. No baloney … esp. not in the gravy.

      The Pomodoro vid? I would never have thought to use cherry tomatoes. I’ve been buying them like crazy right now because the DO taste just like candy. But they go in my salads, not my sauce. I’m definitely gonna give them a try … and mash them down with potato masher (that I never use because I have a potato ricer)

    Anyone still thinking the West’s war on Russia is a sound strategy, may want to consider the events that will transpire in the next eighteen to twenty months.
    Germany has gas to last until the end of February, providing the winter is mild.
    The unrest won’t start until spring. Winter limits protests.
    Without new supplies of gas, (how’s that alternative to Russian gas working out so far? Bleak would be putting it mildly!) Germany will enter the winter of 23/24 with empty reserves. That’s not from Bloomberg, that’s from me.
    BTW, I once thought that Russia might permit some part of Ukraine to remain. I no longer believe that.
    NATO apparently has a ten year plan to fight Russia from Ukrainian territory. With that plan, I believe they have sealed Ukraine’s fate.
    Looking at it from a Russian perspective, I see no alternative but to remove all western influence from Ukraine.
    The west cannot be permitted to build a new proxy army in Ukraine.
    They may attempt such a thing in Poland, but an attack, originating from Poland will pit NATO against Russia without the benefit of using Ukraine as a blind, forcing Russia into a war to destroy Poland’s ability to wage that war.
    Russia and Turkiye are working out the details of a new gas distribution network.
    The EU will be buying gas from someone and that someone will be not enamored of the Eurovision.
    Turkiye has been knocking at the EU door for thirty years. That will end. Turkiye will now hold the reigns of power. Pardon the pun.
    America’s relationship with the Saudis is souring and that relationship also is about to change.
    America isn’t to be trusted. The west is not to be trusted. The golden billion have reached the end of their reign.
    That is the message the west, fingers firmly plugging ears, refuses to hear.

  19. If these are witnesses for the government I’d hate to see the ones for the truckers and those opposed to the Emergencies Act.
    So far all I’ve seen from the government witnesses is that the act was not justified because there were bylaws that could have been used to deal with the noise and parking violations.
